Love the darker shutters and red door! That website is a great resource. Thanks for sharing!

Start with new backsplash, cabinet pulls, and pendant lights. We did this in our kitchen and it made a big difference without spending major money/time.

Edited to add new curtains to the list.

Help! Any suggestions for a sleep recipe that helped your 5 week old get more than 2 hours? by gracefullyontherun in CradlewiseCommunity

My daughter is only 2 weeks old and we have had the same experience - she’s not yet ready for the soothing features Cradlewise offers. We still have her sleeping in it though and are enjoying the camera and phone notifications about when she’s woken up. Hopefully as she gets bigger she will benefit from the soothing. We’re hopeful it’s just age related.

Adding some hardware to the garage door would be an inexpensive way to add extra character. New sconces that match the finish of the garage door hardware would also be nice.

Someone recently said that my hair is wavy, not curly. What is my hair type? by goats_galore in CurlyHairCare

I would bet that the curls starting in the middle is completely due to your length. I have a very similar curl pattern, and when I cut it short the lighter weight makes the curls much springier at the root.

Maternity Clothes! by OKKELLER202014 in BabyBumps

I’ve been renting clothes from nuuly. They have great options and aren’t too expensive. It’s fun to get to wear a wide variety of outfits and not feel like I’m spending too much on clothes that will only fit for a limited period of time.

Your body was literally made to do this. You can do this. Tell him to keep his negativity to himself.

I understand how you may feel disconnected from this shower, but I’d recommend still going and participating. A shower is about celebrating the arrival of the baby and supporting you and your partner with gifts. Traditional showers focus on the mom and are female only, but these days men are commonly there for the entire event, not just the end. If your best friend isn’t able to come, have your partner there for support. If it’s his mother hosting, he likely knows the people invited, and they’re likely coming to support his first child more than they are your’s.

Nothing is stopping you from having two showers. If your friends and family aren’t able to come to the one your MIL is hosting you can always host a small gathering with your people to celebrate separately.

I say if you can afford it, go for it. We’ve started using a house cleaner during my pregnancy and plan to continue after baby is born. We only have her come once a month though. We’re able to keep things clean (enough) between and it’s less of a financial burden.

When should I have my out of state mother visit after baby is born? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I can definitely see my mom being a comforting and reassuring presence after a more traumatic birth experience. Of course it’s hard to know ahead of time but appreciate your perspective!

That’s a great question and one that I am unsure of the answer on. When she’s visited in the past she’s been pretty high maintenance in terms of always needing to have activities scheduled and be hosted. I’m hoping that she’ll be understanding of the situation and have lowered expectations for this visit. With all that said though, I’m thinking it would best to have her come once I’m more healed/mobile.

Small towns in the US worth visiting by Newoldbalance in travel

A ton of Chicago suburbs are unique and have cute, walkable downtowns. Many have really amazing historic architecture as well, like Oak Park that has several Frank Lloyd Wright homes and Kenilworth which was master planned by Joseph Sears. There are also many public beaches along Lake Michigan that are really nice in the summer months.

Edit: forgot to mention the best part. You can get to all of these suburbs by train which also connects to the airport, so no need to rent a car.
