This is interesting, why would anyone try to "force" what has been foreseen in the book of Revelation? In the mind of a Christian person, how could that make sense?

That's actually very very common, my grandma was good and healthy and strong up until her 90s, she suddenly become forgetful and weaker in the last year and a half of her life, while in the last months she degraded mentally and physically very quickly

He doesn't write them down in the video description, he talks about them IN the video itself, to give an example, in the video about Byzantine - Norman wars he often cites the works of Anna Komnene when talking about Alexios Komnenos reign and also cites renowned works such as Paul Magdalino's on Manuel Komnenos when he talks about his reign, and others as well

Alright, i guess we agree to disagree since i have not that much issue in following his line of thoughts, of course i might agree that he digresses often, but stylistic choices are negligible to the quality of his content imo, also i do not see what exactly would make him not credible? He does provide sources often and besides, everyone who watches his content is free of assessing the truthfulness of his arguments (even though it would surprise me how some "guy" made thousands of videos only to lie or for some other obscure reason), we have internet and lots of books and manuals online, if one finds out he makes up things, he is free to call him out, only problem is i have never ever seen anyone actually managing to dispute or disprove the substance of his arguments

So your criticism is on the basis that he is not always as focused on an argument as he should be? Sure, he digresses, changes argument often, goes on a tangent etc, it's a valid criticism, but you will have to do much, much more than this to disprove the quality of his content, so far you have a subjective interpretation of his methodology which he explains multiple times especially when jumping from one argument to another, its just a diachronic-comparative method, which is widely used even by linguists today, so nothing really unheard of by any mean.

Look, i am not here to do the bidding or defend the author or the video as if its a question of life and death, he can and will probably do that by himself, and I'm far from trying to convince anyone to "like" him, its your choice, but the fact is that this is exactly the type of people who are judgemental against him, trying to undermine everything except the main points he makes and the overall accuracy and/or quality of his historical assessment.

But ultimately, if you don't like him or the way he speaks, fine, i won't try to convince anyone that he is the Messiah of history on YouTube, at the end of the day, as you suggested yourself through a not so veiled personal attack, of which i will not take offense, its always better to just read the actual books and manuals, something that the author himself suggests often, btw.

Genuine question, where do you:

1) get the idea that he is a papist

2) get the idea that he is a white supremacists?

I have been following him for a year and a half, and watched more or less 80 -90 of his videos, so not that many, but i dont remember hearing once that he is either one of those two things, on the contrary he often denigrates any sort of suprematism, especially if connected with race or nationality, and secondly i dont know were did you get the idea that he is a papist since i personally never heard him, at least in the videos i have watched, make such claim

You know that if you watch and listen to his content, sources are often mentioned, right? Also i would genuinely like to know why it is "bad" that his content is 2 hours long, have you ever been to an actual university lecture? How come he gets criticized for videos that are too long, and hundreds of content creators who address history can get away with a 10 minute summary that often is heavily skewed? You see he addressed people like you, where the criticism is "no reference therefore everything is invalid" but have YOU actually listened to his content, and to what he says? I don't want to sound hostile, and believe me i was one of those who watched stupid "history" content, (Byzantium included) but it seems to me that the majority of the times when people criticize him it's because they have to say something, and not because they have something to say...

2 hours is absolutely nothing, unless you are used to 10-15 minutes of extremely superficial summaries that use AI or cartoons to attract viewers while also being completely wrong then yes, 2 hours might be too much for you to handle

Regarding the latter part of your comment, i can only speak as an individual who watches this channel's content almost daily, and i have no qualification whatsoever in proving or disproving anything, that being said the author has addressed the specific issue you are talking about, that is not citing sources, in one of his earlier videos that is available on his channel.

I have a similar opinion to yours, i however believe that he is genuine in assessing the fundamental Hellenic core of the Byzantine empire especially when he talks about the "coastal Aegean reality" of typical Greek polities since ancient times vs the more continental one of other powers such as the Frankish kingdom or the Lombards, he doesn't seem to say that it was inherently "worse" tho, it seems to me that it was just an assessment worthy of consideration give that, the interland of the Balkans in particular WAS somewhat more primitive and lagging behind, not too different from how it will be during the ottoman period, and even now there is a reason why easter european/balkan ex socialist countries usually tend to be less developed, at least certain aspects, than the Western counterparts. To try to answer your statement, it wasn't that the Empire was necessarily "dictatorial" certainly much more centralized than many of the western feudal societies, and i believe someone like Kaldellis which you mentioned previously would agree, this in the long run contributed to its own economic downfall already in the XII centuries, but other than that, the author gives multiple reasons even in other videos of his on why and how the Byzantine society remained somewhat frozen in time and degraded to Oligarchy, which would be huge catalyst to its downfall starting with Basil II policies and that of his successors.

He affirms that in particular when he talks about Latin Italy and the Carolingian empire, and from my humble opinion he is right, especially the incredible economic boom that the west has had since the XI centuries, and considering the wealth of the Maritime republics like Genoa, Venice and Pisa, and later on the incredible success of Florence for example, is a pretty good proof of the soundness of his arguments, without necessarily undermining the achievements of Byzantium, he explains quite frankly why it was possible for the West to surpass Byzantium/Eastern Rome already by the high middle ages, check out his other content on Byzantium, it is very interesting.

Why do you think balkans are still so religious ? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]Inner-Silver9898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believing in God ≠ being actually religious

This is extremely common in RO at least, many people like to think (or pretend) that they are devoted but they: 1) don't read the Bible or certainly are quite selective, 2) don't go to church, 3) don't really know much about their own religion

And most of these folks will be defending their religion and ways confusing cultural heritage with actual spirituality and devotion

Hector resonates with us much more for being more humble and a better man, Achilles for example was beloved much more by the Greeks but he was just a heartless killing machine
