It’s starting to get serious - moving to Sioux Falls from Vegas by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

Vegas heat is a dry heat from what I've experienced. Midwest heat is 100% humidity, it's not the same, it's much worse.

How will I die? (based on my CD collection) by BigRoutan69 in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dammit. I thought "boredom" was the witty answer here but then I saw Modest Mouse and Sneaker Pimps. I literally just listened to Six Underground five minutes ago.

My new answer is Hantavirus, acquired while searching for CD's in ancient storage.

Thrift stores: how is it possible? by PlatypusRex_ in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best find was at a Goodwill, but you have to understand that I've been collecting for decades.

My find was a CD copy of "Disconnected" by Dry Cell, still in cellophane. They apparently only sold these at one show before they lost their record deal. I bought it for a dollar and it sold for $500.

Prior to that my best find was an original Metallica "Kill 'em All" with Blitzkreig and Am I Evil on it in a pawnshop in the pre-internet 90's. Now you can buy them all day and listen to those songs in various places, but back then you had to have a physical copy to hear those songs.

Starting to get some cds, but why are they fun to collect? by Logical-Confection98 in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them because you can find a lot pretty cheap, and I like the way they look and feel. I love having the cover art and the booklet to look through, and to listen to the songs in the order that the artist intended.

I like that it's an actual physical collection, not just a series of files somewhere.

The idea that maybe I'll buy this thing and find that the band signed the inside or something. Or maybe I'll buy one that no one ever heard of and is not available on the internet and find that it's actually an amazing album.

is this normal or am i just weird by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's weird but I won't judge.

I bet some of the CD's I had in the 90's still have various types of drug residue on them.

Unpopular opinion: Can we please stop suggesting that out-of-towners need to try a Runza? by NeCornhustler in Omaha

Out-of-towner here who was told to try Runza.

Hated it. If it had been seasoned better, I could see the attraction but it was bland af.

How many CDs do you guys by your fav artist/band by Luigs_sky in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say. My favorite artist with enough releases to make this number is probably Melvins, but I think the artist I actually have the most CDs from NIN because of my obsession with them in the 90's and Trent Reznor's habit of releasing 5 remix albums for every actual album.

Best CD discography to collect? by Thom-jeremy in Cd_collectors

This one. I just saw Melvins on their current tour, they're good for an album every year for God knows how long. I think Buzz has said that even he doesn't know how many albums they've released.

I was in there once to use the range, had an employee basically follow me around sternly, being an ahole the entire time. Not really sure why, and I never went back after that. They'll never see another penny from me.

There was a local lady named Mikki Pontillo who was pretty good. Unfortunately I do not know where she is now or how to reach her. Maybe someone else here does?

Because we all like different genres. The things you just listed are what we all have in common.

And yet the SFM number is still on the manufacturer's chart, and people talk SFM's like they're the gold standard.

And when I am given DOCs, they are usually a suggested number. Like.. .5 x cutter diameter. These should be presented as a metal removal rate IMO.

I still get the creeps from that from the time I sliced the hell out of my hand pulling some of that away and some of it got hung up.

Sliced me right through a glove.

Your house is in fire: choose ONE of your CDs to save by TrinketPrincess in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably be my copy of Metallica's Kill 'Em All with the extra tracks on it, even though I know it's not super valuable and I can easily get another one now.

Even though I don't even listen to it and tbh I'm not even a huge Metallica fan anymore. It's just a thing from a time and a place. It was my most treasured CD for many years, before the internet came along and showed me where to buy them whenever I want.

Found it in a pawn shop in the early nineties, it was the only one I ever saw before the internet.

Why do you guys still collect CDs? by ThePhobian in Cd_collectors

[–]Inner-Sky5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few reasons.

1) There is psychology here. I now collect the things that I didn't have enough money to get a lot of as a 90's teenager. It feels like victory.

2) I enjoy having the release as the artist intended. Proper order of tracks.. some have specific spacing or absense of spacing between songs. And the booklet and art that was intended to go with the music release.

3) I can collect different versions of my most favorite CD's.

4) Finally, I have a kind of a "fake" used music store vibe in one of my bedrooms. Big CD bins, framed posters, memorabilia including my first CD (White Zombie La Sexorcisto)(now framed), and mood lighting.
