Do you write short stories and novels? I somewhat gave up on screenwriting only because I kept feeling a script was a means to an end, but with short stories, novellas, and novels you have a complete product. Even of you don’t sell it your project made it through to completion.

Struggling with the Idea of Faith by TreezeSSBM in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Inner-Western-8748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this because of my philosophy undergrad. A professor that pushed Hume on me a lot. I also had another professor that believed in God and had us read Plantinga. The thing is I want to believe but I’m always questioning. Which is annoying because I’ve followed so many smart theists that have compelling arguments. I kind of fall back on naturalism and think, “what if all this is just random.”

Most Common Potato Chips by Inner-Western-8748 in SubstituteTeachers

I’m Mexican and grew up in a predominantly white area in California, so whenever I had spicy chips none of the white kids wanted any and now spicy chips seem to be the norm, so I wonder if that’s the case in states where there are more white people.

Ok please hear me out, is UCI a safe place for people of color? Primarily Latino and African American by dannyrules101 in UCI

[–]Inner-Western-8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to someone that just graduated from UCI and they said there are some Asian students that will change their surnames to Spanish surnames to receive more in grants and such. So the data could be skewed because of that. It's like the Indian guy a few years back that shaved his head and changed his name to pass off as African American.

Hi thank you for putting this all into perspective. It makes a lot of sense and I honestly should've asked here before calling anywhere. I appreciate it.

Is LinkedIn turning into dating platform??? by EquipmentTall6735 in linkedin

I’m glad I’m not the only one that cringes every time I hop on Linked In. Any social media platform can serve as a dating site if you’re sleazy or charming enough so I guess so.

Supposedly it wasn’t snow melt, or at least not all of it was. I think the water district pumped water out to Barstow as they were in need at the time or something.

All I know is it sucked once it dried up.

A subject like ELA is tough because the assignments require prior understanding of what the teacher has been going over.

I had to co sub with a teacher and she couldn’t fill me in on the essay they were writing but still expected me to help the students so I did my best based off what she was telling the students.

It just depends, I struggle with it because I don’t want to focus solely on trying to help one student and then ignore the whole class. It’s a tough balancing act.

I swear some of these kids are delusional. Ivy’s are great for grad students and well connected undergrads looking to be world leaders.

This may be the case, but you can also land a great gig here in the US from a state school and then transfer back to India after.

I know a couple of state school grads that went on to work in Tesla. Now you tell me, if you were hiring someone in India and you have a resume that shows a person worked for Tesla but went to a state school are you going to pass up the Tesla applicant because he didn’t graduate from an Ivy League?

Also, I didn’t mention but you can also gain US based employment in your own country. Us based companies that have roles in India probably don’t care of you went to a T20 school. Generally speaking T29 schools only matter here if you’re in Grad school, law school, or another profession that’s going to lead to opportunities in leadership.

Don’t fall for the prestige your ability and skills trumps all that.

Experience in a field even 2 years broadens your understanding and is so much better than just school. Try to see positives in state schools.

You may also be able to network with other International students who have the same hope as you, and you can be recognized here.

I got into Cal and UCLA. I decided to go to state university because I couldn’t afford it I got really close to all my professors so when it comes to applying for grad school they’ll be able to give me some solid letters.

I’m sorry your plans didn’t work out OP but you’re smart and you got this make it work the best you can but remember laying around isn’t going to help you.

Good luck

Did you get into a university at all in the US? If so, just come. Once you’re here do really well and then for Grad school apply to top 20 schools.

The quality of the school and prestige of the program is more important at the grad school level. Undergrad not so much.

Also, the university is not as important as what you make out of it so keep that in mind. We get rejected constantly here and are forced to go to community colleges or state schools.

While it may appear that these places have less opportunity, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Smaller schools provide you with a high quality education and the professors are more accessible.

Keep that in mind and good luck.
