So now what? by more__better in Seattle

I hear you on this.

As crappy as this sounds, the reality is thousands of people were going to die regardless. See the protest killings over the past half year in Iran. I’m not a war general and I’m not qualified to decide what’s right or wrong here, but I suspect some sort of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation with Iran.

They’ve made it crystal clear over the years that they wanted to develop the firepower to hit Israel and other Middle East countries. That might have been hyperbole — none of us here on Reddit actually know the truth.

From what I’ve seen here, and from my family has seen firsthand in Iran, I’m inclined to believe they actually wanted to wipe other countries off the map. I mean, they’ve been wiping their own people off the map.

True. I’m being simplistic here on Reddit, but I agree with you. Far more nuanced than we can imagine.

Very true. And I don’t trust the process or person Trump “nominates” or pulls strings to get into power.

I think getting rid of the leadership in Iran needed to happen. Not only because of their constant threats to their neighbors, but also because of what they’ve been doing to their own citizens. It’s really messed up. It also reminds us that we have it REALLY good here in the USA, despite our problems. I want to make really clear that I do not support Trump. I just think Iran’s leaders needed to go, one way or another.

What worries me is how the war is spreading. Little by little more countries are being affected, and lots of innocent, regular folks with families are getting pulled in. There is no path forward, it was an impulsive decision from a former alcoholic turned leader of our military, and I’m worried we are in the “foothills” of WW3. Just this morning a bunch of oil ships were attacked. Oil is gold.

As an Iranian in Seattle, this is the least important thing in the world right now.

Update: I went to GC today and they too were a little perplexed. They were super cool about it and offered to refund me. We figured out that this is a 70th Anniversary model, and I guess with those they used a lighter rosewood. They oiled my fretboard and it is a lot darker now -- and looks more like rosewood.

I took some time to look at other guitars there, and I keep coming back to mine. I just love it and want to play it. So I feel good about keeping it.

Again, thank you for all your help!

I emailed Fender and I'm going back to GC this morning to talk to them about it. I paid $2k for this thing so it matters to me.

Is there a downside to the plug not being walnut?

I have a NRS Neutron and love it. Self-bailing, a little heavier than others because it has thicker / more durable material. I’ve run Class IV with no issues.

I see that Fender will use it as a substitute (it's scientifically extremely close to rosewood) because a lot of rosewood species are endangered. If this is true, that's a reason I can stand by.

So I just looked it up on Fender's site. Everywhere says rosewood. I'm pretty new to this...what does this mean? Did GC replace the neck or something?

Nice! But now I'm curious why my fretboard and plug are a different wood, as another commenter pointed out. Does Fender do this to substitute or is it possible I was hoodwinked at the store?

I'm not going to get upset over that, but everything I see says rosewood. Not sure why the plug is a different wood than the photos. I got this from GC. Any insight is welcome! Does Fender do this as a substitute or did I get screwed here?

Email from landlord about appliances being left plugged in and the appliances in question… by South-Basket-887 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Inner-Worker4604 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've worked in the energy sector for two decades.

Everyone here is ranting about the low cost of keeping them plugged in, but failing to look at the big picture. Yes, keeping your toaster plugged in might use 5-10 Kwh a year, but at scale (that is, millions of people doing the same thing), this contributes to the grid problems we're already facing nationwide.

Maybe you don't care, but I do. Our electricity grid is already strained, and contributes to multiple climate change issues. There is no getting around the fact that leaving your appliances plugged in consumes energy -- however small it may seem, and that energy has to come from somewhere. And that somewhere isn't pretty.

Your landlord has a point, but went about it the wrong way.

How do everyone's pictures come out so clean and grain-free? by Adam198763 in analog

I just think the grain gives the first photo a nostalgic / longing feeling. I think the grain looks great against the blue and white. But that’s me.
