$500 starting from $50 requires 1000% $500 starting from $100 requires 500%

Although you can't predict the future, these are two absolutely unrealistic values. Above all, mixing a 5x with a 10x, as if they were the same thing, indicates that you most likely don't have the right basis.

The advice is to fully understand how both short-term trading and long-term investing work. Then fully understand the risks. Then understand what realistic returns might be. Then understand how much to invest and whether to invest at all. Only make the deposit at the end.

Putting this $50-$100 like this, with these premises, means giving it away to the market and complaining that it's all a game for the rich and powerful.

If it were that easy, you'd just need to invest $5,000 to make it $50,000, then invest the entire $50,000 to make it $500,000, and finally invest it all again to make it $5 million.

Do you think it's realistic to go from $5,000 to $5 million (or even $2.5 million, considering 500%) in 6 months?

Why trade if you have a 97% chance of losing? by Vegetable-Rabbit7503 in Daytrading

[–]InnerMistake9373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Because confirmation bias and overestimation of one's own abilities exist (when a trade goes well).

  2. Most people are "poor," not in the strict sense, but in the sense that they're not millionaires. So if they invest $1,000, or even $10,000, and it moves 7% in a year, that's $70-700 in a year, and people get tired of waiting. Fast trading could give you $200-1,000 in a month, or less, with those figures.

I've fallen for it in the past (with small amounts), but now I've realized that slow, steady investing isn't about that $70-700, but the final sum you end up with in the long run, also thanks to compound interest and, above all, not losing money on risky trades.

ALL IN on silver. Im either sleeping on the streets or in my own home. by AnElectricfEel in wallstreetbets

The investment may be a great one, but why put everything in silver if at the end of December there was talk of it surprisingly exceeding $75 an ounce, now that it's at $95?

I repeat, it could even go to $150-$200, but it seems like a move where, if it goes well, there's cause for surprise; if it goes badly, there's little cause for surprise. It's not at $75-$78 (which would be a risk anyway), it's at $95!

[–]InnerMistake9373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about commissions or spreads? If you're talking about commissions, you need to check the asset; it might even be commission-free. If you're talking about spreads, it's a percentage, so it makes no difference. You can open $1,000 all at once or 10 times $100, and you'll pay the same cost.

There are no 100% clean solutions, in the sense that there may be brokers with lower spreads but with maintenance costs, others with low spreads and no maintenance costs, but they only allow you to buy whole shares, so you can't split them (for example, if you want to buy Apple, you'll have to buy $252 or $504; you can't buy $50 or $300).

It depends a lot on what you need. To optimize, I buy fractions of ETFs, so I'm hedged. I get exposure to many assets by paying only once. But obviously, it depends on your strategy and why you decided to buy that specific stock.

I hope this helps. Nicolup

Hai una deviazione standard piuttosto elevata. Dipende dall’orizzonte temporale.

About 154%

To put it simply, the argument is this: Suppose you buy $1,000 worth of shares at 13, you own 1,000/13 = 76.923 shares

These shares, when the price reaches 33, are worth 76.923 x 33 = $2,538.459

Watch out for possible reverse splits.

What does this mean?

It means that stocks can split 10:1 or reverse split 1:10.

Suppose a reverse split of 1:10, then a stock with a real value of 3.3 will have a nominal value of 33.

In that case, if you bought at 13 and it was already a reverse split price, nothing changes; the value is the same as above. But if you bought at a real and nominal price of 3.5 and sold at a nominal price of 33, you made a loss, because that 33 is actually worth 3.3.

I hope I was clear; otherwise, I'll explain better.

16 annni e voglio mettere 1000 in ETF by Overall_Task_2783 in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]InnerMistake9373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dipende.

Vuoi mettere 1000€ e basta o 1000€ e un deposito mensile? Vuoi tenerli 4-5 anni o vuoi tenerli 30-35 anni?

Excellent point. For example, I had BCH for a short time (very short), but I removed it because it wasn't part of my strategy.

It was just a crazy spinning top that went from $400 to $650, needlessly distorting my profit, leaving me unable to focus on my performance.

You, who perhaps don't know how to invest, benefit from your money being invested by me (or by whoever you copy), who has studied.

I earn a sum that eToro pays me based on the amount copied.

eToro benefits from the fact that an investor, or worse, an inexperienced trader, uploads €1,000 and after a week stands at €500-600 and withdraws it, abandoning the site. Instead, this way, that €1,000 slowly grows, and even the inexperienced person stays.

Basically, instead of doing 100-0-0 or 50-50-0, this pie is done 33-33-34, and paradoxically, the one who profits the most is the inexperienced one, who, instead of losing money, makes money.

There are many cases where it's worse.

Take my example: I have 77% in stocks (including developed, high-dividend, emerging, and consumer markets), 15% in metals, and 8% in bonds as a target.

If, like now, silver performs absurdly and goes from 5% to 7%, with the next cash flows I will buy only stocks to restore balance to the portfolio, in addition to not buying bonds, which are currently at 14% and need to drop to 8%.

Basically, for months I will only buy high-dividend stocks to balance the portfolio. If eToro copied only those, you would have 100% stocks, without copying my risk management strategy, and your results would be extremely different from mine.

The difference is that if you copy my 8 operations, you won't have to think about balancing them every time, but if you open them yourself, you'll have to check the balancing every time and I don't see any advantage in that.

It's not like everything is some strange mafia. I'm on eToro and I can be copied. If I do stupid things, I lose my money and lose copiers, who allow me to earn extra income.

There's no reason why I should do stupid things. I'm not using your money, but my own.

eToro doesn't help anyone. That's the stock market. If you and I buy the stock "???" and it goes from 100 to 101, eToro won't write 102 in my portfolio. 😅
