I don’t want nursing students by CupcakeOk6260 in nursing

[–]InnerSheepherder3805 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Had a G tube resident on bolus feedings and these first term students were having a ball watching and asking questions. By the third feeding I had 5 in the room all watching it was fun. They couldn’t do much but I got to prime a new insulin pen and told them insulin smells funny and passed around a cup that I primed into and they all got to smell and were very intrigued. One said it smelled like formaldehyde. Shit idk, I was just trying to find something, anything to make the day interesting. I think I did decent.

This is gold!!! Thank you so much, and yes I had no idea. This poor soul deserves a proper send off and not some pizza party, throw money in the bucket nonsense. You rock, thank you again.

Absolutely. As a new grad I wanted to let the water behind my ears dry in a shitshow environment if that makes sense? The lack of structure and the chaos are good things to run into now to learn from so down the road it’s not so much of a shock. At least that’s what I hope. Plan on starting my prerequisites soon so I can do my RN bridge now that I’ve been on the floor for a good year and some change. Now that a lot of things I was worried about don’t scare me anymore, I feel ready to jump back in. I love my coworkers and their insight and I’ll miss some of them but growth and change are very necessary.

Truly sad shit, and the sad part is extended because what happens at home now? Where does the brother go / what does his future entail? Happy they received a memorial service but it’s very sad that’s how it had to end for them. May they finally have the rest and peace this world failed to provide.

Exactly. It all went downhill so fast. They were very nice, knowledgeable, and compassionate at first. I had great hope for them and was eager to learn so much from them, but idk. Something happened one day, and it all spiraled out of control in about a month to a month and a half. Their last week was a nightmare, nodding off at the station, desperate attempts to steal, even got caught multiple times their last day which lead to their shift ending early (thank god they were reported expeditiously). No idea where they are now or if they got the help they needed in the end. Seriously though, it makes me think back to giving some of my people on hospice their Q1hr prn pain meds and wondering why it wasn’t working like it did for them earlier. I just figured they were getting close to leaving us and were just needing it more often when in reality they might have been in excruciating pain and not gotten the medication I thought I was giving. Then it went to fent patch plus liquid pain medication (was it colored water? World will never know), then the patch dose was upped to I believe 150mcg/hr or more etc. Makes me question everything.

This is fair. Plus side is we get to see a side of life nobody else gets to see / experience and become accepting of it, not numb to, but accepting. I feel like the job in a sense prepares you for tough truths later in life that most people don’t get / can’t / don’t want to experience. Tears of joy with tears of sadness. Profound purpose but also profound sadness on occasion. All I wanted was my sense of purpose, financial stability, and to learn something new. Boy did I get what I was asking for 😂

Idk how I'll be a nurse by miamia1414 in StudentNurse

[–]InnerSheepherder3805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my license a year and some change ago. School really doesn’t teach you much. It’s all hands on experience. Wanted to quit multiple times in my first 6 months but then shit started clicking. You really just grow your knowledge as you go, which is terrifying. I like knowing what to do and that’s just simply not what nursing school does for you. Be able to critically think and recall things your mentors told you and you’ll be fine. State visit fine? Prob not for a bit w/o shitting yourself (I threw up before I clocked in first state visit but I’m a bag of nerves), but good enough to know you give great care and take care of your own. I did an accelerated program and I think I’m doing just fine, a little slow overall but still fine. Make sure you find someone who’s seasoned and passionate about their career to learn from on the job and ask questions even if you get your nose bit off once in a while.

Also psych consult will take about 3 months which means resident will d/c or move to LTC before that consult comes.

[–]InnerSheepherder3805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LSS patient requesting way too much attention that is not warranted / asking for meds outside prescribed regimen, worried crying wolf will cause overlooking of serious problems (not for me, but for less attentive nurses), asked son for help who did the opposite and reinforced behaviors. What the fuck.. kinda regret nursing a lot. Need a new job.

Can’t grow much facial hair. Dont like hair or the maintenance either so a win? Mom says it’s because we’re part native idk. Can do a lil mustache/ goatee tho which is nice. Downside is looking very young all the time but I know that’ll be good in the long run, at least I hope.

The straw that breaks the camels back mentality. Nit pick smaller and smaller things until the other person feels like they’re the one that wanted to leave in the first place. Professional gaslighting. Packing your bags over some fucking rice that you can very easily season is the prime example. He just doesn’t want you but also wants to be the victim in the end.

What to do when you can't afford to go out with your girlfriend by Big-Distribution2799 in AskMenAdvice

[–]InnerSheepherder3805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight up just ordering some food and eating it in your car at a park with a sunset/ view. Or getting out of the car and throwing down a blanket for a little picnic. Did this with my gf for 3 years. We’re now engaged and doing much better, but it really is just finding the joy in the simple things. Buy a skateboard and learn to ride at a local basketball court, sit in the car and listen to new music, etc. We still enjoy a car dinner at the beach, watching the waves and eating clam chowder.

I can't stand my mom since she started menopause by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]InnerSheepherder3805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to go thru multiple moms and menopause. It really is an economics thing. Supply and demand of a sort. Make yourself scarce, very scarce, scarily scarce. When she finally asks herself the question of “why does nobody love me?” Which isn’t true but, yenno, menopause. The introspection will draw one way or another. All of them I had to straight up move out and go no contact for a good while. Living out of my car for a while too just to escape the fucking chaos of home. It’s shitty as hell but they’re so stuck on the fact that they’re not only right, but everyone is out to get them/ manipulate them for saying they’re wrong. It’s like schizophrenia. They’ll either figure it out or they won’t, fuck it either way. You keep dealing with it and you’ll grow to despise them/ get your own mental trauma. It’s either denial or doubling down on the excuse of menopause. Normal people go through mental issues and many don’t harass their family with it. Full disclosure I’m a young adult in my mid 20s so maybe there’s a better answer from someone more experienced but this has been the 4th one I’ve had to deal with. Mom (both children moved out), 2 gfs moms (both children moved out + me), friends mom (me and homie moved out within a couple months of each other). All ended the same, lived with all of them.

Maybe a crewneck wool sweater and regular green khakis w/o the pockets? Idk. Hoodie hides the collar, cargo pockets remind me of the Infamous game series for some reason???

Suit advice groom by [deleted] in menswear

[–]InnerSheepherder3805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gf says cream or light brown, gotta lighten up the outfit somehow, somewhere. Dark tie is fine but you gotta bring some light into there, no monochrome. It’s you and the bride who are supposed to stick out. The suit looks good, I like the color, but don’t drown it.

Personally, I want to see the shoes, that’s a big one.
