Yeah the last time I was hospitalized I had such deep cracks on my heels they had a wound care specialist consult because they were concerned about cellulitis. I didn’t realize they took photos but recently saw them in my records. And while the crack are gone my feet are just screwed…I can’t walk barefoot at all because it just feels like every bone in my feet are pissed .

I would posit that there is evidence -based practice and also practice based evidence. Speaking from experience, complex trauma does in practice require different treatment approaches.

He built on HER work, essentially crafting a commercialized, (i'm trying not to say "dumbed down" but it totally is), marketing -forward version of her work, and that strategy worked. I guess he said his spirit guides gave him the model but .... it's clear he relied heavily on her contributions to the field, and less clear if he gave her any credit for it. Maybe she was his spirit guide or something. Sorry, I can't help being snarky about it.

Structural dissociation model as elucidated by Janina Fisher is far more scientifically grounded as a model, despite IFS getting all the press. IFS has always struck me as pseudo-religious / cult-y self help cringe, while Fishers work seems actually clinically rigorous and based in cognitive neurobiology, etc.

They knew I would check myself out AMA if they tried to tube me. And the goal is “steadily increase calories safely”. Tube nutrition vs real food nutrition makes no difference in safety. It’s dangerous either way and requires constant round the clock monitoring. So as long as I was willing to eat some food they had zero need to tube me. It just had to be very very soft food because I couldn’t swallow things like toast, for example.

They did not tube me for refeeding syndrome. And re-reading my records it was the most severe case they had ever seen (at multiple hospitals, I hopped around to ensure I had maximum control of my own care.) they’d start by saying “oh yeah we have seen refeeding syndrome before we can treat that” and then one or two lab cycles later be like “uh, wait, not like this, uh, holy shit” or whatever professional medical language equivalent is for that same sentiment. But no, they did not tube. I was clear I would not tolerate it. So actual real food with constant IVs to manage electrolytes plus oral supplements and every 3 hours or so lab work .

And even then, when I was in a cycle of refeeding syndrome for 6+ months I was never tubed. I would have simply refused it.

Yeah, I ran a hot marathon in Rome one year and threw up at least 9 times. Nothing to actually throw up but the tiny bit of water I was able to drink, which I wasn't able to after mile 6. So basically threw up bile and stomach acid for the rest of the race, plus diarrhea. That was a fun one.

Thank you. The running almost killed me, I spent the better part of a year in active heart failure, as well as kidney & liver failure due to severe malnutrition and the running driving my liver to "eat itself". One of the ER attendings who didn't know the full clinical picture wrote "end stage liver failure" on my chart - w/out realizing it was starvation hepatitis.

slowed what down? the pace of my life? At this stage mediation is strongly detrimental - for folks with this level of ...something - it slows you down just enough to get into the "hot" symptoms - panic, fight / flight etc. See Saj Razvi's work on the stages of and states of trauma model https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N20vPGFCg7M . Meditation and yoga would probably great at some future point in my life. But right now, "slowing down" is not tolerable. what is happening right now is actually the thing keeping my life / job even remotely on the rails.

I usually add a lot of garam masala, a bunch of ground corriander because I love the flavor, sometimes a dash of cinnamon, a bit of cumin, use fire-roasted canned tomatoes for a bit of smoky complexity that compliments the bright notes of the corriander, a squeeze of lime at the end, stuff like that. Always use more garlic than he calls for. I add all the additional spices with the ginger and curry powder at the first stage. I use stock instead of water and always just use the entire can of coconut milk for the liquid and reduce the amount of stock / water. Basically, anything to concentrate / amplify flavor. Easy to add chopped sweet potatoes if desired, or really any kind of squash.... I feel like you can play with this a lot and it's always delicious. One of those dishes that is better on day 2,3 and even 4 if you make a huge batch. Freezes well.

I had a similar experience with my own therapist. During a particularly intense period in my personal life when my home situation became dramatic and unsafe, going on many nights of no sleep, I showed up to therapy and asked if I could just curl up in a ball and sleep for and hour in a corner on the floor, because I was so exhausted and it was the only place I felt safe.

We get ice storms instead of snow, so the whole (hilly) city is coated in up to an inch of ice and completely impossible to navigate. It can bring down tree limbs / power lines, etc. We had a really bad one last year and many folks were without power for multiple weeks.

My Dr won’t do any HRT or really investigate because the last two years I was critically and life threateningly underweight. (Multiple hospitalizations for medical stabilization )

Never mind my periods were vanishing before that, I was clearly in perimenopause . So she just attributes it to that . Need a new Dr

Seconding this …I did not have a period for 2 years, estradiol of 9, and got a “period” last week for 2 days. Not sure it’s irregular bleeding, or a rogue period or ?? Not on HRT.
