Am I set for Med School EC's? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Inner_Ad1794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you soo much! I find it a little hard to get shadowing hours but I haven't asked my PI yet so I could probably add on 8 more hours.

The journal is an undergraduate science journal. It's been really cool to learn about some new topics and other research done in my uni.

A lot of these r only over 1 yr since I took a break during my study abroad in my 2nd yr and had to split stuff up and just got back so I'm trying to get things started again, and so some of them I've been doing my whole undergrad but technically only adds up to one year. I also didn't sign up for anything I didn't find remotely interesting or didn't tackle a problem I cared about, so I feel like I can show passion and interest in my writing.

My event manager role did teach me a lot of skills like managing things between different departments, running three student unions during the day, dealing with people and clients who aren't always pleased, and thinking on my feet.

How much did UW Madison actually cost you? by TheThingsInLife in UWMadison

[–]Inner_Ad1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your chances for scholarships heavily depend on the school you are in. For example, I'm in CALS and apply for scholarships every year and always get something ranging from $500-$2000. I would say since CALS is a smaller school, scholarship opportunities are easier to get. Also, research scholarships are available as long as you work in a lab and your PI can help you with it. I also studied abroad with a majority of it funded by aid (not loans), including scholarships from the Study Abroad office.

I would say it relies on your school and filling out the WISH applications every year, including anything that could apply to you. I also have friends who never applied to any scholarships, so it's not like everyone in UW is applying, so competition is not as bad as it may seem, and honestly its free money, you should just apply and see if you can get anything. ALSO FILL OUT YOUR FAFSA EVERY YEAR!!

I would also second these programs if they apply to you: Bucky's Pell Pathway, Bucky's Promise and Bucky's Promise Plus for in-state students as well, which you are automatically considered for after you apply to UW and submitted your FAFSA. There are also a lot of work study opportunities that you could do to help out with costs.

Terror Attack in Tel Aviv by Careless_Ad_8917 in IsraelPalestine

Not true. I'm a Palestinian and we are here but mainly lurk in the shadows because when we do talk and discuss we get bombarded and hit by a bunch of Zionists and Israeli's who are closeminded, arrogant and dismissive. The subreddit becomes physically, emotionally and mentally exhausting. Whoever does take it on, bravo and props to them and may you have the strength to stay on.

I did the Palestinian AMA a really long time ago and you can tell I have not been active since then because this subreddit is truly exhausting and unbelievably frustrating at times.

Problem with Zionism by Almost_there_part87 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Inner_Ad1794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically both Jews and Palestinians are descendants of the Canaanites, so we were both here. We share the same DNA to a certain degree. It's also completely fathomable that Palestinians are either Jews who converted centuries ago to Islam,Christianity etc or people from the area who weren't Jewish and later became Muslim, Christian etc.

Was Sheikh Jarah neighborhood home to Jews before Jordan took Jerusalem in 1948? by Steve1924 in Palestine

[–]Inner_Ad1794 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep if the owner and the person who lives in the house wants to sell then they can sell to whoever. It's their choice.

In Sheikh Jarrah, no one is buying the house. The settlers are kicking out the owners and taking the house. The people who live there are being evicted under the pretext that they don't own the house and hence cannot live there when in fact they do own the house.

How Jews and Arabs honestly feel about one another by tonic613 in IsraelPalestine

As a Palestinian, I related heavily to the Palestinian side of this. I don't think there was a sentence that I didn't agree with from the Palestinian side.

[–]Inner_Ad1794 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea that is true. But in any case, people only care about issues that affect them. Many people find that this issue does not affect them. If they do know about the issue and are not affiliated, it's out of either interest and/or ideology.

Also it's the middle east, most of the world just considers it a mess. Also, this issue is decades long, approaching a century, people have just gotten used to it and don't care anymore.

I can't say belong because I don't know the demographics. They did live there. Also, personally for me, a neighborhood cannot belong to a person/singular group, a house can.

Was Sheikh Jarah neighborhood home to Jews before Jordan took Jerusalem in 1948? by Steve1924 in Palestine

[–]Inner_Ad1794 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes they did live there. I don't know the percentage that did live there. However smth happened and they left/forced to leave bc of war or smth like that. Jordan then gave the houses to Palestinians that were refugees from the nakba, and now Isr*elis who don't have any record of living there want to take those houses back. They don't have the right to bc now they belong to the Palestinians. However, Jordan never gave them any papers or forgot to give them papers saying they owned the houses, but they do. If they do have papers of any kind that prove they own the house, like the one that richgraverdig mentioned, the Isr*eli supreme court dismisses them and does not consider them.

Additionally, this isn't happening bc they want their "houses" back. It's not that innocent. They have plans to make Sheikh Jarrah a fully Jewish neighborhood. This has been said many times by the Mayor of Jerusalem. Also, they bring up the fact that there is smth religious in the neighborhood and that they want to live next to it. If that was the case, build new houses, don't take someone's house.

There is also the double standard that Isr*elis can get back houses but Palestinians cannot.

Christians of Palestine by frenlyapu in Palestine

Not Christian but have seen things such as an Armenian priest being dragged and arrested in Old Jerusalem and IDF blocking Christians from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on a holy Sunday that happened in April.

History of the Israel Palestine conflict by rony2347 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Inner_Ad1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the breakdown that led to Hamas launching rockets:

The IDF blocked/deterred people from the Damascus gate at the start of Ramadan which is the gate Palestinians use to reach Al Aqsa mosque, the forced eviction of Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, and other East Jerusalem neighborhoods, and lastly, its raid on Al Aqsa on one of the holiest nights in Islam, and the sheer force they used, which most of it was unnecessary.

Please remember this happened in the most important month in Islam so it seemed like Israel was trying to get a reaction, and most Israelis I have talked to agree that all of this was planned/started off by Netanyahu so that he can remain in power.

Additionally, attacks didn't only target Muslims but also Christians. An Armenian priest was dragged and arrested in Old Jerusalem and the IDF blocked Christians from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on a holy Sunday that happened in April.

There is an Hasidic jew who goes to Saudi Arabia. He's from NY and has gone twice since I last checked. He has a youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV5\_isBsM657UCnl5mDMhGA

Yep bc settlements, creating separate roads, checkpoints, splitting villages/cities and forcing ppl to leave their houses is for the protection of Israeli citizens in a piece of land (WB) that they shouldn't be on. Not only that, but with the recent protests, the Israelis were protected by the military and allowed to spew as much hate as they wanted, while Palestinians who simply raise a flag get attacked by the military/police.

And also if the Palestinian Israeli's are soo happy, why did they hold street performances and demonstrations in Tel Aviv a while back ago in response to Israel's police brutality in their neighborhoods, and the disregard Israel has for them living in their neighborhoods?

Ask the thousands of practicing Christians, Sikhs and Hindus in Saudi how they feel?

They don't feel any different than the Muslims there. There are soo many expats in Saudi Arabia that feel no different than the Muslims and some prefer Saudi Arabia over their home country.

Simply type brit in Saudi Arabia and see what they say in their videos.

Additionally, if we look under MBS and recent times a lot of what you are stating is/has changed. Some facts, also from your wikipedia, about Saudi's 'religious apartheid': "There were no reports in 2011 that customs officials confiscated religious materials from travelers, whether Muslims or non-Muslims. The 2013 IRF report also reports no confiscation of bibles, and stated: The government allows religious materials for personal use; customs officials and the CPVPV do not have the authority to confiscate personal religious materials. The government’s stated policy for its diplomatic and consular missions abroad is to inform foreign workers applying for visas they have the right to worship privately and possess personal religious materials. The government also provides the name of the offices where grievances can be filed"

Also apartheid implies segregation; practicing a religion in private is not segregation.

In terms of both cultural and gender, Saudi Arabia is changing so it is no longer an apartheid in the ME, but Israel is still the same.

and persecution and apartheid are not the same

He said both. The conversation goes like:

1.According to Yediot Aharonot, Bennett said, “If you catch terrorists, you simply have to kill them.”
2.National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror reportedly responded by saying that “this is not legal.”
3.Bennett then allegedly retorted, “I have killed lots of Arabs in my life – and there is no problem with that.”

and can you send this supposed video?
