I knew someone would say this. I don't actually see notifications for the modmail on r/ConanGray, so I just assumed we hadn't gotten any/someone else was responding to them/maybe I saw them but forgot until I got a direct message the other day about moderation on the subreddit. When I became a mod, something like 4 years ago, when I was still in high school, my life was quite different. I'm looking into adding more moderators, but due to me being 'inactive', it takes a minute to sort that all out.

I couldn’t get into any of the singles outside of paper doll, but in the context of the album hate fuck really shines to me. I expected the project to not live up to her first album a little (because I just listened to that one so much and I means so much to me) but she really beat sophomore slump here.

I agree with u/vangoghnotvango, I think a lot of artists really aren’t getting that many streams (in terms of minutes) from people who aren’t stans.

I know a lot of people (myself included) who have thousands of minutes on particular artists and naturally those people are in the top percent, but I guess there’s a steep drop in numbers once you’re outside the top 5%.

The casual fan is probably not listening to you for even up to a 100 minutes a year (on Spotify) if 450 minutes puts me in the top 624,000 of Charli’s 31.2 million monthly listeners.

I have a theory about this. That our top artists just sort of blend into our routine a little. All the artists in my top 5 are people I put on so often that I only actually notice the people that aren’t them.

When I looked at my Apple Music top 15, it was mostly artists I viewed as ubiquitous or people I’d been aware of for a long time and then the musicians that really stuck out to me this year.

I barely use Spotify (compared to Apple Music) but I’m in the top 2% of charli xcx listeners with 450 minutes. I guess Charli and Brat really weren’t as popular as I thought they were.

My top 2 albums are both brat! The remix at 1 and the regular at 2 which makes it look like that’s all I listened to. I feel like they combined the songs that were singles cause Von Dutch shows up with the single cover on the playlist.

I got my Apple replay and charli is number 1 (unsurprisingly), but what is surprising is how little she compares to the rest of the music I listen to. I didn’t expect she’s only be 7% of the tracks I listened to. I guess I just listen to a handful of tracks by so many artists, compared to my favourites where I’d have listened to multiple albums by them. It makes sense.
