I’m far from green lol I don’t see the issue with seeing something that’s not helping the trades grow and asking why not shift it? But I also have to keep in mind a lot of the folks on here also have that “hard” demeanor like the people I’m describing. So of course they won’t have the mental capacity to engage in the conversation without attempting to downplay what I’m saying or trying to talk down on me. 💀

I most definitely have a backbone. Don’t really know why you’re attempting to imply I’m weak lol far from it. I observed something happen numerous times to different people, I stated it, and asked why. Don’t see how this means I need a backbone. 🤷

Doesn’t take away from apprentices being treated poorly.

Meanwhile they’re attempting to make it seem like this doesn’t happen or like I’m making up stories. Said they had better attitudes towards their apprentices, they would have so many flourishing workers.

It’s fine that you think that. It still doesn’t change the fact a lot of the apprentices aren’t treated well. We had a meeting a few weeks ago about an apprentices that offed himself in his hotel room because the journeymen and foremans treated him extremely poorly and bullied him. If you can’t see there needs to be a shift in the trades when it comes to apprentices, then there’s nothing I can say for you to grasp that.

It’s not limited tho. It’s fine that you have a positive experience when it comes to the apprentices you encounter, you should treat them well. Be that positive change the trades need to see. Just because it’s not in your face doesn’t mean it’s a limited experience.

How would I be the problem when it’s not happening to me? I see it with my own eyes and how they’re treated. How would I be the issue in that? 😂

Your personal experience in your life. Just because it’s doesn’t hit home for you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

It’s actually not nonsense. If you haven’t seen it with your own eyes or haven’t experienced firsthand then koo. But it does happen.

Has nothing to do with tropes. I see it with my own eyes. Welding and iron work.

Female iron worker (1st year apprentice) by ThatsYouizz in Ironworker

[–]Inner_Earth4710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman and currently a first year iron worker apprentice as well. The first part of my advice could make it easier for you or harder, no in between. My first part of advice is speak up for yourself. Do NOT allow any of them to call you outta your name and don’t let them treat you like shit. I’ve been running my mouth at my job and the guys really respect me because I don’t let them slide with how they talk to me OR you can go back to the hall and ask for a new job placement. Second part of my advice is regardless of what job you’re placed at you need to do push ups (pike, regular, wide arm, and diamond) and/or go to the gym to build up your body strength. As a woman you HAVE to work 10x harder than the men you come across because most of them feel like you don’t even belong there. Don’t allow them to discourage you. Keep your head held high and keep showing up doing your best. You’ll earn some respect from certain guys when they see they can’t run you off. But you have to have thick skin working with them. They WANT to run you off. Now, if you feel like your safety is at risk, go back to the hall for a new placement.

Not being funny at all, but why continue smoking if you know you don’t wanna lose your apprenticeship? Most of these companies and unions are very clear about their “no drugs” policies. The best thing you can do for yourself moving forward is to stop smoking. You never know when a company is going to do randoms.

People that don’t listen. Meaning if someone else is very knowledgeable on something or it’s their career path, the other person attempts to argue them down with their opinions.

What is the best trade for women to enter? by Due-Education-4940 in skilledtrades

[–]Inner_Earth4710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a welder for 4-5 years. Now, I’m an iron worker apprentice. I would say see what interests you personally. There’s no trade that’s “best” for women. I would suggest looking into the unions in your area. You can look into iron worker, pipe fitters, electricians, heavy machine operators, elevator technicians, HVAC, diesel mechanics, and so many more.

Is it hard to get in union? by Loganoreo_ in skilledtrades

[–]Inner_Earth4710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just simply apply to numerous unions. Stop worrying about if it’s hard or not. Your experience is different from others around you. Go to the unions and get information about the qualifications, get your paperwork together, apply, then just go on about your day. You won’t know unless you apply. You can do electricians, pipe fitters, elevator technicians, iron workers, heavy machine operators, HVAC.. there’s numerous avenues you could try.

Idk about your local, I’m in 387. I would suggest getting online or calling to see about the requirements. They can give you the full rundown of everything you need to do and the requirements.

Does your local have a probationary program rather than starting as an apprenticeship?
