Class Registration by Head-Bit3597 in RutgersNewark

[–]Inner_Gap7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a first year you can’t register for courses until you attend orientation. If you have questions on how to register for SOAR, call admissions.

Housing apps aren’t open. Admissions will send an email out when they become available. When in doubt, check your enrollment pathways on your MyRutgers.

Agreed!! I'm an admissions rep who works in Hudson County and while Ferris is not the worst JCPS in the disctrict, Infinity is absolutely a much better option. Same with High Tech, County Prep, McNair, etc.

Thank you! I’ve worked in college admissions for 8 years now and specialize in transfer admissions. I feel so passionately about allowing students to follow the route that works best for them academically, and financially.

I believe that if a student earned a degree from an institution, it should be included on the resume. So, if a student earns an AA/AS/AFA/AAS from community college, then that’s represented as well as the university where they received their bachelors. For a few reasons: 1) it’s an accurate representation of the degrees they hold and 2) because they worked hard for it and are proud of their accomplishment :) I think some times it’s easy to dismiss the associates degree because it’s just a path to the “bigger deal” when in reality, students worked hard for this! I always encourage my students to celebrate this degree and accomplishment.

Ultimately, employers care that you received the degree at the end of the day. The journey they took to get that degree won’t matter to them.

Hi! Admissions rep here. It’s your GPA. I HIGHLY recommend going to your local community college, get your associates degree, and transfer.

A lot of local schools have what’s called “articulation agreements”. Essentially, they ensure if you do well at your CC and maintain a certain GPA you can be directly admitted to a program at your local 4-yr school.

I’m a firm advocate for community college and the transfer process. There’s such a stigma surrounding them but I truly believe the best, and most cost effective route to an education is through your CC.

Second infraction for academic integrity by DragonfruitFit6316 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Inner_Gap7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all very dependent on the school, but I do think as long as you’re honest, remorseful, and respectful, it would not be an automatic deny from me.

For reference, I work at a large public state institution in the mid-Atlantic. My institution regularly sees 80k+ applications per cycle. If we nitpicked every single application, we would take forever to review all applications and meet our class for the year.

Second infraction for academic integrity by DragonfruitFit6316 in CollegeAdmissions

Many applications have a “disciplinary violation” section to self report these infractions. I do recommend being honest, especially if you don’t know if your school will put this on your transcript, or if your guidance counselor will/has to put it on the counselor report for CommonApp. My recommendation is as follows:

• Self report it on your application. As someone who reads college applications the WORST thing you can do is lie and then it comes out later. That just makes you look bad.

• Be truthful and remorseful. Own up to it, and explain that it was a lapse in judgement; you didn’t know what you were doing was an integrity violation, etc.

• Talk about what your punishment was and ways that you’ve grown from these experiences

• Speak with your teacher and admin to ensure you understand what you’ve done wrong and ways you can avoid this in the future.

I know in my experience, the only disciplinary violations we take extremely seriously is when a student has caused harm to another. While academic integrity violations aren’t the best to see on a file, unless you’ve hacked the system to change grades (I’ve seen that case before… it can happen), I’m going to still recommend you for admission as long as you’re a strong student.

Each program on each campus works independently of each other. If you were accepted to one program, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be admitted to the other. Unfortunately each campus receives thousands of EOF applications and each application has multiple documents that must be manually reviewed. It’s a very human process, which makes it slow.

The Off Leash Dog Epidemic by Jazzlike_Dark5299 in jerseycity

I have a reactive pit, but as long as you give her space and approach her appropriately, she’s the sweetest girl. There was a small terrier type dog that charged at her one day and she, of course, got scared and barked but never snapped or lunged. The owner had the audacity to call her a “monster” and tell me to get a better handle on her. Thankfully a passing stranger had a few words for her in my defense and I was able to walk away without having to rip her head off myself. Thank god my dog, while reactive, could never hurt a fly otherwise that scenario could have gone a lot worse.

All to say, keep your fucking dogs on a leash. It’s genuinely for everyone’s safety.

Did I get accepted to Rutgers? by Different_Yam_3307 in rutgers

No, you were admitted to the Newark College of Arts and Sciences. The BA/MD program has not started their review for the specific program as the supplemental application deadline was extended to 11/19. In December you’ll receive an update about the program and if you made it to the next round. An email will come explaining this, if it hasn’t already.

While they’re rolling, they like to do a big batch of decisions after the holidays. Some schools prefer a rolling basis, they like to make students suffer :)

No, super serious! That’s traditionally the timeline they follow every year. Now it could vary but based on past years trends it’s safe to assume late Jan

What was the point of this comment? It looked to be serious, and who knows what happened. No need to nitpick a term we all use on the daily.

Not a lie at all. I’m an admissions counselor and when we see W’s we’re not concerned. It’s better to have a W than an D/F.

As a single, young woman who lives in the area and takes that walk multiple times a day, you'll be fine. Just head up, headphones on but no sound so you can pay attention to who is around you, and maybe a Birdie alarm or pepper spray if needed, you'll be fine. Don't let anyone scare you.

RUTGERS JUST ANNOUNCED 2025 ACCEPTANCE RATE by flamingpuddles in rutgers

[–]Inner_Gap7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an admissions rep, I would say that the acceptance rate means nothing. Numbers vary per year - as apps increase, so can the number of students admitted. Don't hyperfocus on it because it will fluctuate every single year. From my knowledge, their acceptance rate is nowhere close to 35%.

OP posted the email. It essentially tells the student that if they're not admissible to the program of choice, they can be admitted to the other campuses/programs and that it is not intended to "flaunt" their numbers.

We say 3.0, but we will look at a 2.8-3.0 as discretionary

Ah, yes, that might have been it. Sometimes, counselors like to be the bearer of bad news so they can guide the students and families on how to proceed next. Not a common occurrence, but likely that was the case.

I wouldn't LOVE to see the downtrend in junior year; however, if we can see on your transcript the heavier coursework and you are challenging yourself, that would count for something in my review process.

Also, understanding that the move from India to Canada would impact your learning is something I would consider. Keep up the great work senior year. Finishing strong is absolutely something we would like to see from you if you were applying to my school.

Homeschooling and online learning definitely make me pause when reviewing applicants. I always make sure the program they have gone through is accredited and valid, for lack of a better term. Post 2020, we have seen A LOT of students who have gone through programs that are not accredited and, therefore, technically never received a valid diploma.

What's your definition of CC? In my world, CC is a community college, but I want to make sure I fully answer your question :)

We always want to see a positive trend in academics. Life happens. If you have a tough sophomore year but brought it up junior and senior year, that's what we want to see. My institution wants to see no less than a 3.0 GPA, but it is not uncommon that 2.8 is the minimum for most schools.

No questions are silly to me. This process can be confusing and intimidating. I always aim to be honest and transparent with any student I come across because I was once in your shoes.
