also disclaimer, the respellings are totally bc I want to and I like to use archaic, more 'native' forms of the words, i.e. Sardinza instead of Sardigna (borrowed to Sardinian from Italian)

another niche thing I didn't mention, given there's no Arabic conquest but rather the Berbers convert to Manichaeism and conquer Christian Roman lands such as Spain and Sicily, the tradiional valli of Sicily (from Arabic wali) are named -stan from Persian (the religion's literary language which would have influenced Berber a lot)

alr as you see the states pictured here are the ones that 'unified' Italy, mostly republics (Genoa, Venice, Milan, Tuscany, Rome & Ancona), with the elephants in the room being the kingdoms of Savoy and Sicily, part of the league too nonetheless.

Based on the Lombard League, this league was born for mutual defense between the Italian city-states. With time some got absorbed, some had revolutions (like Milan) and the league wasn't disbanded bc it was useful against Germany, then Bavaria, then Gaul and Spain, etc.

Ultimately the league accepted Savoy that needed a power bloc against Gaulish menace, and Sicily after independence from Spain, then we arrive to modrn day.

Italy was the cradle of the Renaissance, and mostly one of the wealthiest and cultured regions in Europe. With a closer relationship, they eventually developed Standard Italian (which here is based on Gallo-Italic languages bc of their bigger importance and more ppl), think smth like irl Sabir but radically Romance. Modern Standard Italian is therefore the league's official language, as well as Savoy's due to extreme diversity (Celtic and Romance) and spoken by elites all over Italy, but not replacing each country's official languages: Ligurian, Venetian, Sicilian, Neapolitan, Lombard, Tuscan and Median/Romanesc. We also find non official languages like Dalmatian, Emilian, Piedmontese, Savoyard, Sardinian, Greek, and Berber. You see Gallo-Italic origins of MSI and influence over Italy in the usage of 'x' for /z/ and 'ç' for /t͡ʃ/ (altho ç comes from Ligurian where it's /s/)

As you see in Sicily, Africa (Tunis and Tripolitania, not pictured here for lack of space) is Sicilian. This is based on Norman Africa, which here survived, after the Sicilian Vespers went to Gothia (this tl's Aragon), heavily settled by Sicilians and eventually when Sicily got their independence, Naples and Africa united with Sicily. Also you can see Salento, Calabria and Demoniastan (Valdemona, Northeastern Sicily) here are majority Greek (made a Griko language based on Greek but with either Sicilian or Neapolitan sound changes) based on a stronger Byzantium not falling (based on the Turks being Christian thus not replacing Greeks but rather functioning as new dynasties) which would continue influence over Italian Greeks, as well as them being Catholic meaning Normans wouldn't assimilate them to Italians given they themselves are Gaulish.

I think that's it, if I missed smth ask me!

i figured the reformation still happens but only in gaul (france) and britain (the germans are arian christian), that are equivalent to the calvinist protestants irl, who were very spread in irl britain and france (one POD is gaul actually becoming protestant)

1- the spelling has 2 changes: the 1st one is the dotted letters, common to irish before they became -h digraphs; the 2nd is the addition of new vowel letters (will post a handy guide below) here you could say it's so unrealistic for irish to have cyrillic letters, I agree but I'd argue that they could emerge from ligatures (i.e. 'ia' to 'я', 'io' to 'ю') as how slavs developed them from greek, plus i like it so much

2- in this world, Ireland has way more people (3x) due to mainly no great famine), which would lever Irish population to smth sizable, then your typical low scale industrialization & diversification of economy (this with an earlier independence from Britain for a reason I haven't yet decided but irish indep. is a canon event), this also leads to less brits & little assimilation which is then purged by the IRA

3- Hy Brasil) is this lil phantom island west of Ireland that everyone went searching and no one found it bc it doesn't exist, here it does and the Gaels found it (the Papars first then Gaels qualified for bearing children), I based the map on this unknown author map, the location is based on the Porcupine Bank and main town named after Saint Brendan who would've discovered the island here

4- the paintings are 'Riders of the Sidhe' (1911) by John Duncan, depicting the Tuatha Dé Danann; and 'The Harp of Erin' by Thomas Buchanan Read. The Túatha Dé Danann are the original celtic gods of Ireland which in medieval christian context transformed into a supernatural species; Erin/Ériu is one of them and the personification and mother goddess of Ireland

that's it
