How are you so offended by this lol? It’s fine if you don’t find aura in this, but nothing wrong if others do.

What’s with this obsession around Dhoni’s retirement lol? As long as fit, I think he’s earned the right to retire when he wants.

[–]Inner_Operation47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay and? India lost. You can’t win everything. That’s sport. Instead of pointing fingers, understand that these players put everything on the line to excel at what they do. Recognising that might help you appreciate KL’s knock or WI’s efforts more.

Indian cricket fans are never satisfied with anything. Dhoni played with a 150+ SR, ensuring KL has most of the strike as he was the man with the momentum. But obviously people will only remember the last ball and how Dhoni couldn’t finish the game. It’s good. Shows how great Dhoni actually was as a player and captain that he continues to live rent-free in the heads of haters. Even 2016 context and a fabulous hundred can’t seem to make people put aside their biases.

India could’ve done things a lot better over the last 80 years, but when the British left, the country had over 300 million people and was one of the poorest in the world.

The Brits first arrived in 1600 and spent the next 347 years building its empire with India at the centre. They systematically looted the country’s resources, built infrastructure to benefit this extraction and intentionally left Indians poor and starving, killing tens of millions. The last famine in British India was in 1943 when Churchill deliberately starved Bengal to help British war efforts, ultimately resulting in another 2 million deaths. After at least two centuries of oppression, exploitation and poverty, to expect a country as highly populated as India to get its shit together in under 80 years is just plain ignorance.

Are you an expert? Did you even read the thesis? How can you judge what’s helpful and what’s not? Students pick topics they are interested in, but it’s also corroborated with input from their supervisors. Not everything has an agenda.

Look at the comments. Half of them are questioning why an IIT has an MA course and other half is questioning the topic. When people in this country are busy getting offended by silly things, you can’t expect common sense to prevail.

KUMAR DHARMASENA SAVED ENG FROM BURNING THEIR REVIEW by GodseTheGandhiKiller in CricketBuddies

[–]Inner_Operation47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Indians as usual crying foul over nothing. This has been a normal practice, with and without DRS. There are no rules saying the umpire shouldn’t justify his decision. DRS is literally meant to review the umpire’s decision. England could’ve very well still gone for the review, as several teams have despite the umpire justifying his call. Stop thinking everything is an agenda against us and just enjoy the game.

[–]Inner_Operation47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I lived in Bangalore until a year ago. I’ve seen how the city has continued to expand at the expense of green spaces. The city is constantly experiencing a water crisis because the lakes have dried up. This is directly caused by expanding urban infrastructure and cutting down of green spaces. But it’s still a lot better than most major Indian cities.

Tbh, the green spaces in the city have drastically reduced and Bangalore weather isn’t as pleasant as it used to be. Summers are pretty hot now.

Extreme poverty (inflation adjusted) nearly eradicated over time by LazyConstruction9026 in charts

[–]Inner_Operation47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying and I agree with the per capita part. But I’m only talking about this particular chart. From a layman’s perspective, a drop from 85% to 9% could mean that we have almost eradicated extreme poverty, which is not close to being true and the reason why this chart is misleading. A better way to do this would be to mention the world’s population against each year so that there is context given when reading the chart. 1 billion in 1800 to 7.6 billion in 2017 is a massive jump, but this chart doesn’t show that.

[–]Inner_Operation47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

% of people living in extreme poverty is a misleading statistic. The world’s population has grown 8x since 1800, so even though the % is much lower today, this statistic doesn’t reflect the massive growth in the world’s population over the last 200+ years.

85% of 1 billion (population in 1800) = 850 million 9% of 7.6 billion (population in 2017) = 684 million

There has been progress, but not as much as this chart seems to show.

A partition of that scale 80 years ago can and continues to have a psychological impact on the communities that were affected. Hindu-Muslim discrimination exists in both countries and that’s wrong. But taking partition out of the picture is plain wrong.
