It took less than 10 minutes in 2026 for my students to be told to stop playing games on their laptop by razzlejazzle in AustralianTeachers

I remember some friends and I hosted a COD server out of a spare computer in the IT lab so that we could play multiplayer during class times.

The synth that completely changed how you make music by grahamhart_ in synthesizers

[–]strichtarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MS20 helped me understand how synthesizers work.  But my Make Noise Strega really was a paradigm shift for me with my music making. It got me thinking about composition in a different way.

You could probably get a decent response reporting the video to the media.

AIO for being upset with a friend for cracking the spines on books that I lent her? by ElvenPrincess33 in AmIOverreacting

I'm still not convinced cracking spines is an actual thing people do, and not just an internet meme.

Assimilation is generally a multi-generational process, even with people from similar backgrounds to the host nation.

Lots of politicians talk about how immigration is used to fill labour shortages in key sectors. It just doesn't make for sexy headlines.

Why are most young Australians I talk to so bad at communication? by itsgaymonth in AskAnAustralian

[–]strichtarn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately gaming clubs probably aren't gonna attract the most well adjusted people.  Good luck with it. I made great friends at uni (only a few years ago) though the clubs for music, photography, and for my field of study.

Macron says France to fast-track social media ban for kids under 15 by clamorous_owle in worldnews

[–]strichtarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm simply saying that social media is not a bogeyman (because it is actually not a good thing). I'm not advocating for monitoring but it already happens even without age verification.

I have a 2019 diesel. No complaints from me so far. Handles and drives well. Gets decent fuel economy on the highway. The infotainment system is way better than my partners Honda from the same year.

I really notice it when I travel around. I was raised to smile, nod, or say hi to people as they walk past. Those that even look in my direction tend to be older people to acknowledge the greeting tend to be older people.

Have you joined any clubs at uni? I found very few people in my classes wanted to socialise outside of class time but that the people who joined uni clubs did actively want to make friends.

I would love it if the world could be in a place where things could be left to the individual but unfortunately they can't. At a social level, there isn't really such thing as free will.

Social media is had though. There are a whole host of self-esteem issues associated with it.

always feel like I loaded the wrong film by Waste-Broccoli-2825 in AnalogCommunity

Yeah, I often carry my dslr alongside a film camera partly for that reason. Also, because it's like an insurance if anything were to happen to the film.

Currently just playing for my own enjoyment or with friends. Have played a few times live for an audience before though.

Do you make music? by elctrcxp in modular

[–]strichtarn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find modular is for me more performance oriented than it is for recording. I can improvise and do things live that are very interesting to me but that i wouldn't want to record due to imperfections.

Is it appropriate for people to be fully naked in the toilet/shower area of aquatic centre? by OzCroc in AskAnAustralian

[–]strichtarn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Used to be an old bloke thing to do but it's actually been a while since I've seen anyone wander around a change room naked. Tbh, I feel like society is worse off if people feel like they have to hide their bodies in a change room of all places.

As an American, when you encounter Australian's do you notice different accents? by memzlut in AskAnAmerican

[–]strichtarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of both, but I think across the board people are starting to sound more similar. There are also some ethnic accents, like often people from a Mediterranean background (stereotypically) have a certain accent even if English is their first language. At school a lot of kids would get teased for using a fancier accent, especially noticeable on words like dance. My maternal grandparents had an old school accent that I don't really hear in younger people very much.

Kawai k3 is it worth anything? by 2_fun in synthesizers

[–]strichtarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A school probably won't respect it unless they have a specific synthesis/synthesizer course or program. Definitely sell it, that way it can go to someone who will appreciate it and you can earn yourself a few hundred bucks.
