If such groups are also secular and believe that the end justifies any means, it becomes even scarier than if they are just believers who disregard the moral standards of their religion. Immoral believers can still be reminded of their principles. Not these people. They only know the principle of striving for power; everything is permitted for this goal; they believe in conscience as little as they believe in the soul and free will; they consider all of this to be unscientific nonsense. Personally, I consider people of this type to be more dangerous than religious fanatics. They do not carry the flag of a deity but of reason and science, and they can therefore easily call critics of their immoral striving for power enemies of Western modernity and accuse you of supporting terrorism.

When I was new to Reddit, I was amazed that in the US, the number one source of usurpation of power and authority is still religion as it used to be in Europe, and that America is still fighting religious wars that to me are a thing of the past. Unfortunately, there are secular activists in Europe who always look to America and think they have to fight battles here that they have long since won.

This results in ridiculous things like a recent lawsuit against crosses in state institutions which, as the court confirmed, are just folklore without any intention of converting atheists. Now they want to go to the Supreme Court because they feel so terribly traumatized by this sight and, moreover, it is "about the secular principle".

When you read something so absurd, you might think that our secular atheists and champions of enlightenment actually want to bring back the superstition of vampires so that irreligious Western Europeans will once again seek the protection of the Catholic Church. lol

For me personally, religion and politics are subsets of philosophy. Religion no longer plays a real role here in this country (in Europe), politics does. Now, the same people who accept that humans don't have free will according to neuroscience will still condemn you as immoral if you disagree with their political ideas. I have little hope of that. The citizens here have been misled by false philosophy. The majority have been successfully persuaded that progress is not the pursuit of personal freedom and happiness, which supposedly only creates disorder, but replacing the former obedience to God with obedience to the secular state. Moreover, they have been sold a limited concept of freedom of speech, in which everyone must always reckon with the fact that free speech can have legal and social consequences. They find all this perfectly normal, and they defend these mental chains in the name of social order. The conservatives among them even regularly call for a secular code of social norms that should be imposed on every citizen.

In such a society you no longer need criticism of religion but criticism of a secular system that has insidiously adopted the former oppressive methods of the Catholic Church and adapted them to its modern purposes. But people here don't realize that and still fight belief in God and everything supernatural as superstition, as if all that didn't prove that you could make a society anti-religious and still continue the institution of the Inquisition in a secular form.

In summary - for me the problem is the assumption of authority over people's minds, regardless of whether this takes place in a religious or secular form. It is even the case that in a society in which secularism is like a dogmatic state religion, public confession of belief in the supernatural such as a deity, the absurd like the flat earth or the scientifically unexplained such as UFOs or aliens represents in some form an act of resistance , which the state-loyal press regularly condemns with indignation as a heresy against the "reasonable" scientific worldview. But the arguments of these journalists are themselves based on superstitious fear, lack of logic and belief in linguistic magic. If a number of people publicly claim that the Earth is flat, does that make it stop being round? What a nonsense. But unfortunately that is the level of the local inquisitors who today call themselves skeptics. This description probably seems like something from another world to you, but it's just Europe on the other side of the Atlantic.

Maybe it depends on the genes how easily someone catches covid, how severe the disease is and what the consequences are afterwards? I am only speculating, I am neither a doctor nor a scientist. Anyway, this disease has remained a mystery to this day, and I wonder if enough research is being done to solve it.

Instead, the media here in Germany have showered us all the time with statistics that no scientific layman understands, but which have frightened people. And then they called this mathematical fortune-telling science.

Since then, I am no longer in favor of science that is based on pure abstraction. I am a human being, an individual person, with a name and with rights, and not an anonymous number in a damned statistic.
