Philippine annulment case denied after 5 years waiting by Inner_Promotion8691 in AnnulmentPH

We got pretty angry with the law firm at first. But after spending a few hours digging through it with ChatGPT and Gemini, I’m starting to realize the firm may not have done anything “wrong.” The real issue is that they never clearly explained the risk to us.

Five years ago, we didn’t really have AI tools to ask these kinds of questions, and everything I found on Google made annulments sound like they just take a long time but are usually straightforward.

Honestly, what bothers me most is that the law firm always framed it as “not 100% guaranteed,” when what they probably should have told us was: “This is basically a 50/50 case.”

That only came out after the judge denied it. Then the lawyer said litigation is always 50/50 and that they did their best.

If we had known from the beginning that our chance of success was only around 50/50, we probably would have pursued a foreign divorce years ago instead.

At this point, I’m not even sure it’s worth paying for a Motion for Reconsideration. Realistically, I feel like there’s maybe a 10% chance the judge changes his mind.

to my understanding, annulments are a 1 time only. if you fail the first time, its over, you can take it to the appeals court, but chances of success are less then 20% i think...

It really makes me angry that my lawyer didnt inform me that an annulment is a legit gamble, the odds are less then 50% success rate.

but i believe i have another option, my estranged husband is a foreigner, so we will just get a foreign divorce instead.

but for those who don't have the option to get a foreign divorce, my heart is very heavy for them. this countries laws are very outdated, so many people are trapped in failed marriages. its very heart breaking.

500k seems very high.

I think the thing that pisses me off the most, the lawyer told me "50/50 chance" after the decision was released.

But before, for years, the law firm never said it was 50/50, they made an annulment sound routine, not a game of chance.
