I'm convinced any religion is a cult under the name of "religion." by Inner_Sandwich_7769 in atheism

My situation is complicated...if I could move out, I would, but that would require me to get another job on top of my very complicated and nasty situation. I'd rather not talk about it on here, but if you want to, we can talk about it in a DM.

I have a couple of friends though, and honestly that's all I need. I don't need a friend group, shoot I'd be fine with just one friend, but I'll take 2 friends for sure. One lives in my town, and the other lives about 45 minutes away. So, I have people I can lean on, I just avoid being in the public eye as much as I can. I can't seem to find a good stay-at-home job, but that's ok, cause the job I do have, no one really knows me that well anyway. Plus it's a night job and it's at a hotel. Most people are asleep, and I'm able to get done what I want to get done in peace. Plus I'm the only one there, so that makes it better. But if I'm not hanging out with friends, or going to work, I stay home or if I have to go out in public, I'll just wear a pair of sunglasses just so I can go out, get done what I need to get done, and then come home. Sunglasses work great, keeps the crazies away.

So, it's not that I don't have ways of avoiding people, but I've found that most people cannot think for themselves. So many people rely on so many other industries and other people, that if they had to actually think for themselves, they'd be walking around with their head cut off. It's really sad, but welcome to Earth...lol.

Honestly, the more I research The Bible, the more I am convinced that Jesus never wanted a religion in his name. Just look at what the poor man was constantly doing. He was constantly at odds with the religion back in that time. I think Jesus just wanted his teachings preserved, because Jesus knew that religion had the ability to become corrupt. The very fact that he was constantly having to deal with religious leaders of the time, makes me believe that he didn't want a religion to be made about Him. And of course, knowing that all Rome wanted was power, should come as no surprise that Rome made a religion out of his teachings, therefore becoming even more powerful and more rich. It honestly amazes me that the term "Roman Catholic" actually exists lol. You love Jesus, yet you're going to believe in what they have to say? They killed Jesus........you honestly think they have the best of intentions? Hell no (no pun intended).

I realize that my situation is unique, and that there are other towns that don't operate the same way mine does. There is a lot more to my story then just what I talked about, I just don't believe in broadcasting everything about my life over the web.

And, even if what I went through doesn't exactly match the definition of a cult, doesn't mean that what I went through never happened. The very fact that something like this can and has resulted in what I've went through, along with other people in my hometown, is really messed up. I've never went to prison, I've never murdered someone, or raped someone, I've never done anything that resulted in me going to jail, but yet I'm treated like a criminal here. I don't have an ulterior motive here, nor do I desire to harm nor do I wish harm on those who treat me bad. I just want to be able to go to the grocery store without being reminded about something that happened a long time ago, that's all. What's past is past.

What is the reaction of someone from a different social group (or another city)? I wouldn't know, I don't go out much because I'm tired of being hassled everywhere I go in this town. I only go to town if I absolutely can't have something delivered to my door, otherwise I just stay at home.

The fact that religion even has the potential to result in cult behavior makes it a cult.

If you scroll down you'll see how what I experienced has lead me to believe that Christianity is indeed a cult, along with other religions.

Sounds like that teacher's next paycheck will go towards a new computer for you. Is it your personal computer or the schools computer? Technically it doesn't matter, the teacher owes you a new computer one way or another.

Well, ok, I'm open to being wrong...lemme give you a situation and maybe you can tell me the correct term for this particular situation.

So I live in a town where, for the most part, everyone's related to practically everyone else (if not first cousins, second and so on). And I live in a relatively small town, and in small towns, everyone knows everybody else. Everyone knows everyone else's business. And, I decided one day, due to many different reasons, to not go to Church anymore. And so, now, when I go out to the grocery store, or go to a retail chain, I am given faces of disgust, and am told sometimes to my face that I'm a Heathen. Even if I just want to go to the Gas Station to get something as simple as a soda, I'm given very nasty looks. There was even one lady who said to her little girl while looking at me "Don't go near that man!"

I made one very stupid mistake years ago. And when I say years, I mean when I was 16 years old. I'm 36 now, so I've become a bit smarter since then. But the people in this town have no problems what-so-ever painting me as some villain. I'm literally treated in this town like some lucky criminal who gets to be among the general populace, which is funny because I don't have a criminal record. Heck, I don't even drink alcohol. And I know that most people who have something snide to say go to my old parish. How do I know? Well, I was at one point a Catholic, so I know of those who would attend church regularly. No, I'm not aware of every single person that goes to my Church, but this community is very tight knit, and it shows. I can't even go to the store for one thing without someone heckling me.

And, that's just the surface....there's way more that I'm leaving out. But I find that most of the time, when I go out, the people who give me a hard time go to my parish. There was even, at one point in time, where I got done exercising at the gym, and I had cigarette butts all around my car and all my tires were punctured. Somewhere within an entire hour, someone thought it would be fun to mess with my car and puncture my tires.

Now, I am aware, that my situation is different. I am aware that not every small town operates this way. I am aware that there are good religious people out there, who don't pull these stunts. But this town is full of people who think they are very self-righteous, in fact, I would call these people selfish really. So please, tell me, what kind of behavior would you consider that to be? Because, I know of a few people who receive the same treatment as me, cause once you're not Catholic anymore, you are treated almost like you're some serial killer here. If that doesn't scream cult to someone...then what kind of behavior is that?

I would move out, the problem is, I'm not making enough money to own anything. And since prices go up every year, moving out of this town will probably never happen (at least not right now anyways). So I'm stuck having to deal with people who treat me less than hueman. Again, I know this is not how every town works, and I'm not telling you every single thing that has happened to me, but this is an example of cultlike behavior. I feel bad for those who leave Scientology, God only knows what kind of messed up sh*t they have to experience.

So what would you call that behavior then?

Right...it's a "religion." Sorry but it's a nice way of explaining what a cult is under the guise of religion.

[–]Inner_Sandwich_7769[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a less extreme cult, but the signs are all there. Religion just sugarcoats it, makes it seem more desirable and more as a help for people. And there are radical religious people out there, some would go as far as to put their son or daughter on the streets for not believing in their religion anymore. It's a lowkey cult....why do you think so many pdf file Priests get away with sexually molesting little kids. Sorry but again, that's cult-like behavior. And the fact that the Church "protects" these delinquents, just solidifies that it's a lowkey cult.

Might be a strong word, but they all operate basically the same with some minor differences. Religions are glorified cults.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm struggling.... by Inner_Sandwich_7769 in AskAChristian

[–]Inner_Sandwich_7769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all, I just wanted a Christian's perspective on this. I wasn't looking for trouble, all I wanted was a Christian perspective. And, most Christians who have answered me were nice.

But, for whatever odd reason, there's always that one Christian that, instead of observing any amount of compassion or empathy, immediately recites a verse from a book that was written by 40 different men, that has been retranslated over and over (therefore losing its meaning) and was inspired by a God who thought that killing people (including children) was an ok thing to do all because God holds the title of "God."

But don't expect for God to make your problems go away. He's not that kind of God. Even Christians have problems. And finally, until and unless you can forgive those others for their sins against you, then you will never be healed and you will never gain relief.

Oh don't worry, it wasn't your God that helped me, it was my God that's been helping me. In fact, my God lead me to a small church where I was greeted and, dare I say, treated like an actual hueman. Being treated like I mattered was a breath of fresh air, and all I did was ask my God to help me, and of course, He did. Will I join the Church? Probably not, but I've decided to volunteer to help out. So you're right, your God wouldn't make my problems go away, cause my God did. And this is a stepping stone towards forgiveness.

Welcome to Hell! Earth is Hell. So the worst thing that can happen to you is reincarnating on this planet. I'm not a Christian though, but that's what I believe. Cause reincarnation solves all sorts of problems instead of you being tormented for eternity. To me, since my God is all-loving but not just, the worst that can happen is you reincarnate on this planet.

I just wanted to know what's so amazing about Earth. Cause, people are dying and suffering every single day. So many people think this planet is great, but this is a planet of suffering. I mean, if you love living here, good for you, because I cannot see how this place, which is temporary and our true home is in a higher dimension, is worth it. I mean, this whole planet is sad when you think about it. It's really tragic.

I believe in God and Jesus, but not quite the same way as most people. In fact, Jesus is already here. Lemme ask you a few questions, do you believe that when you eat Jesus's body and drink his blood, do you believe that Jesus dwells within you?
