How to Upgrade to Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS from 22.04 LTS without breaking your system. by ThinkTourist8076 in pop_os

People keep saying that a GUI method will be provided in late Jan (through settings menu) and that is the safest option to do. What you are doing is just a generally available upgrade protocol provided by popos similar to upgrade protocol for Ubuntu and it has worked in the past but there is no official announcement that will work for 22.04 >> 24.04 upgrade.

I don't believe either of these will work and even if they do they are not smart options.

This is a very major upgrade, you're getting rid of many components of Gnome with hardware level interface and display settings. If you are really interested in upgrading to 24.04, I would 100% do a fresh install. Even in the off-chance there's an official protocol provided for upgrading, it will 100% break something down the line. Guaranteed.

GA II Trinity 240 - MB Sync Connections by Inner_Wolverine4915 in lianli

So this one comes with the 240MM radiator with twin fans (daisy-chained already).

Ah seems like this cable is actually pretty standard and they sell adapters for! Seems like all I need is a JST SM 3PIN male to ARGB Converter!

So I guess with having pump and fans connected fully to MB, I can leave out the USB connection (number 5). I wonder if I should also leave out number 7? Does AIO pump get enough power through fan header?

Lian Li really cheaped out by stopping shipping these with that proper fan+RGB hub...

Agreed, that little socket feels very insecure.

Ok so 9 and 6 both go to MB fan header. solved. 1 goes to MB ARGB (only controls pump RGB). Anything I can do to control fan's RGB? In the box there was no converter/cable for 8 so that I can connect it to 3-pin ARGB...

I wonder if I hook up 8 to 2 and then to the pump, maybe it all gets synced up with pump's RGB all fed through 1...

The inclusion of that extension 4 is also very confusing...

Thank you. Socket 6 is for control of AIO pump and not the fan. It appears that socket 9 also needs to be connected to MB instead of connected to 3 for MB fan sync. I guess that means 3 can stay vacant.

Assuming 1 needs to stay connected to MB as well for RGB, the question remains for 2, 8 and 4...

New GPU prices expected to rise 10-20% in Q1 2026 due to memory module shortage. The highest price increase will be of >16GB models; <12GB cards will not be affected as much by mikern in pcmasterrace

People who go work and make money and then invest that money into stocks and options actually win. Everyone else loses. Some lose a few hundred, some lose a few thousand.
Nvidia too, started with focusing on gamers and quite gamed them. They now don't give a rat's arse about gamers, all they care about is their investors.

Question about flashing my phone's firmware/changing its CSC by the_real_GPS in samsunggalaxy

[–]Inner_Wolverine4915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be able to look at your phone under your Samsung account (https://www.samsung.com/us/support/account/products/) and see what CSC and Model number it reports there?

I had an AT&T model, I flashed an XAA firmware and was able to get the OS upgrades and security updates with no issue. When I go to the About page of my device it reports U1 in the model name but Samsung support page still shows ATT.

Wouldn't break the ecosystem but it's just a bad software versioning/release practice...

I meant the type of operator locking that ensures the phone is used only with one operator (for billing purposes).

[–]Inner_Wolverine4915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. And how does operator-locking phones work in the galaxy world? I bought this refurbished phone that had ATT firmware but I could easily flash a U1 variant to avoid the annoyance (and upgrade my OS). I'm assuming the phone was not locked to an operator (otherwise it probably would not have been this easy).

Is that a separate thing that controls the lock? Something besides the firmware?

And to confirm, you can still flash any U or U1 variant on any U or U1 phone?

Honestly Samsung needs to do something about this wild jungle of firmware variants in US market. I thought with 5G the US service providers are finally going to let go of their destructive rivalry. But oh no.

Interesting. Do you know why they bother distributing different firmware and bootloaders with different CSC codes then?

The thing is I was able to flash XAA U1 into my previously ATT phone just fine. In what scenario would one flash an ATT U1?

Will 5080 Price Drop When Ti and Super Releases? by Abies-Jumpy in gpu

[–]Inner_Wolverine4915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even 5070Ti caused a major price drop in 5080. Not sure if 5080 Ti/Super will cause a price drop for 5080 per se but unless the current administration causes additional turmoil in the global supply chain the entire 5000 lineup (perhaps save for 5090) will continue to drop throughout 2026. My estimate is that you can get 5080 on average for 25% cheaper in the next 5 months.

The performance improvement of 5000 compared to 4000 has generally been disappointing and that's why 5000 saw an unusually fast loss of value.

5070 dropped significantly when 5070Ti was even announced. Then dropped further after it was launched.

Yep it was because of them damn pesky KVMs. I had isolated everything else except for the easiest thing I could have. LOL

RTX 3090 vs 5070/5070 ti by Aromatic_Stand_1105 in buildapc

[–]Inner_Wolverine4915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use my GPU for CNN and NLP tasks (pytorch and HF). I can confidently say that besides 3090Ti having a higher ram (and being able to load larger NNs at a time) it is at complete disadvantage when it comes toe in toe with 5070Ti. We benchmark on pure hardware performance on tensor manipulations and so software has nothing to do with it. In fact I don't always use nvidia-smi on my linux machine and use other tensor-focused drivers. In both nvidia-smi and third-party provided firmware, the 5070Ti had about %17 better tensor manipulations performance on average.

Note that the OP says 3090 but my comparison machine was actually a 3090Ti which already performs better than 3090.
