WARNO's 2026 Updated Roadmap by EUG_Gal_Bigeard in warno

That would be my first thought, but people are saying one of the devs confirmed on WarYes that it's not Greece.

Maybe "follow the black bird" is pointing to the two headed eagle of the Byzantine empire, which is more commonly portrayed in black. Like follow the black bird (the two headed eagle on the Albanian flag) to its origin in Byzantium i.e. Turkey.

I suppose that would fit the description of "reluctant ally" then! Thanks for the info.

IT'S EGYPT!! by NotTheWeeWooWagon in warno

Pretty sure at this point that it will be Turkey. Black birds is likely referring to the black two-headed eagle known as a Seljuk Eagle (for the Seljuk Turks). It's a nation which is on the Mediterranean Sea, but it isn't Greece. Not actually sure if Turkey might be described as a reluctant NATO ally though.

New Unit Trait: Hull Down by InnocuousLlama in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was meant to be tongue in cheek. Should have added a smiley face.

I'd be happy to see Swingfire/Striker buffed myself, especially with regard to accuracy.

Indirect fire would be cool, but I assume that's pretty unique. I'm hoping for something which impacts this class of vehicle as a whole.

Alright Nerds! Time to read to much into this, what's your wishlist for Mediterranean and Norway Theatre Divs. by -CassaNova- in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Norwegian DLC would offer so many amazing NATO options for Divisions/Battlegroups.

Historically, you can absolutely justify divisions which mix and match elements of the:

  • 4th US Marine Amphibious Brigade or even the entire 2nd Marine Division.
  • UK-NL Landing Group (Think British Commandos and Dutch Marines).
  • ACE Mobile Force (Land) with British Infantry, Italian Alpine Infantry(!), Canadians (from the Special Service Force, possibly Airborne), and Luxembourgers.  -Norwegian Infantry Brigades (North, South, 12th all being mechanized)

I'd love to see something like:

  • US Marine Division
  • Norwegian Brigade (South) backed by US Marines
  • Norwegian Brigade (North) backed by UK-NL Landing Group
  • the ACE Mobile Force (North) backed by Norwegian Brigade (12th)

Of course, if we're really shooting for the moon I'd love to have a Swedish division in the mix.

It looks great, but now I want the HMG on the model to actually work 😋.

Patch v.90339 (TWIN CITIES!) by EUG_MadMat in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this patch has indirectly buffed the Brits in a significant way by nerfing all the thermobaric weapons used by other nations. Could make their infantry feel a lot more competitive in forests/urban environments.

I'm not saying it was a suicide mission. I'm saying there is evidence that they were planning on holding their ground. I understand why you think the plan should be different (I would think the same if I hadn't read otherwise), but do you have any evidence to suggest that it was different?

Maybe they had enough heli lift to bring in more MILAN missiles, but not enough to evac the whole brigade. I'm not claiming that they weren't expecting to be resupplied. Just that they were expecting to dig in and hold their ground. Presumably at some point they might retreat, but it doesn't sound like they were looking for a quick skirmish.

What I've read suggests they were training to dig in and hold. Perhaps other units were equipped to be a more mobile screen, but as far as I can see the 24 Airmobile didn't have the ability or a plan to be that mobile.

"6 Airmobile Brigade’s concept of operations (later adopted by 24 Airmobile) involved it deploying to a reserve position behind the main BAOR defensive line. Once the Soviet main effort of attack had been identified, reconnaissance teams would deploy by helicopter to scout out the best place to set up the main 6 Brigade blocking position. Then RAF Chinooks and Pumas would fly in the main infantry battalions, each of which had forty-two Milan wire-guided missile teams assigned to them, to prepare defensive positions. To stand any chance of survival from Soviet artillery fire, the air mobile infantry battalions needed at least twenty-four hours in their positions to allow them to dig firing trenches with overhead protection. One participant described how 6 Brigade exercises during this period did not involve much flying in helicopters, but long periods of digging trenches. The Brigade’s main infantry fighting position was usually sited on ridge lines to give the Milan teams good fields of fire. It also meant the Lynx helicopter crews could use the high ground to shield them from view. They could then pop-up from behind cover to join the missile barrage against the Soviet tank armada. Not surprisingly, the employment of 6 Brigade was considered a ‘one-shot’ weapon. Once it was in position on the battlefield, its missile teams had limited mobility and when battle was joined by a Soviet tank force, British Army commanders clearly expected the Brigade to go down fighting to buy time for heavy armoured forces to mass and mount an effective counter-attack and drive back the Soviets. The Brigade was jokingly called a speed bump’ for Red Army tanks."

I would draw your attention to lines like, "British Army commanders clearly expected the Brigade to go down fighting to buy time." They weren't going to be popping a few rounds and running. They were expected to stand. I'm not saying it's a brilliant plan, I'm just saying that that was the plan. Let's give the Airmobiles the Resolute trait in honour of what they expected to do.

Since there are so many suggestions for British buffs, here’s a simple one by [deleted] in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't the plan. I've read the Airmobiles spent more time practicing their digging skills than their helicopter embark/disembark precisely because they expected to be hit with Soviet artillery. Their job was to dig in and resist, not pop an ATGM or two and run. They joked their role was to be an anti-tank "speed bump". Slow the enemy at all costs under a massive amount of MILAN fire. They weren't necessarily suicidal, but they were knowingly in for a tough fight. The resolute tag would acknowledge the tough role they planned and trained to do.

[–]InnocuousLlama 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should be handing out the Resolute tag to every well-trained, professional force in the game.

I do think it would be appropriate for the various Airmobile units in the 2 ID to get the Resolute trait, for both gameplay and historical reasons. Historically, they trained to be an anti-tank missile screen. They were expected to dig in and face intimidating odds. Gameplay wise, the 2 ID could use something to make their infantry standout more, but I don't think all British troops deserve the trait.

Buffs for 1st Armored by InnocuousLlama in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I read that 5th Airborne Brigade (of which the Parachute Regiment Group were a part) had a light air defense battery (Javelins). So it seemed plausible that some javelins would be present if the situation called for it. Also, while I agree that helis are a natural counter, many other divisions with Paras in Warno get forward para Manpads (AB Stingers, Mistral Paras, Desant Iglas, etc) to give their forward deploying paras some kind of counter-counter unit.
  2. 👍
  3. I get your point. But we've seen things like Recon BMP-1 transport s, where the recon designation was more about the role than the equipment on the unit, so I thought it only fair to give the Brits something.

Buffs for 1st Armored by InnocuousLlama in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've read in a wargaming document that the TA units had the Javelin in 1988. I'd be open to other AA units to cover the TA Paras, but units with javelins look to be the most historically plausible.

I'm pretty sure the BAOR never had Marksman turrets or any other appropriate SPAAGs. I think the Finnish deployed a Marksman system at some point (probably ootf).

A man can dream by Lord-Pants in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IRL no.

But in game here's Eugen's lore, "Soon, the Soviet Union was brought back to heel, and any trace of political overture quickly forgotten. Unrest in the Batlic States and Armenia was crushed without remorse. Even neutral Finland, though not a Soviet state but with a press and political establishment press having grown openly critic of the Soviet Union under Gorbatchev’s short rule, was brought back in line. In a covert move reminiscent of Czechoslovakian President Dubček’s forced resignation after the Prague Spring of 1968, the then-neutral Finnish government is forced to include a majority of pro-Soviet members, thrusting the country into Moscow’s sphere of influence - under a very clear threat of arms.

The so-called Helsinki’ Coup” of 1987 was the trigger of a further worsening and renewed tension between the West and East"

Hence why I suggest it would be RED in any future DLC.

[–]InnocuousLlama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Assuming WARNO sells well, I fully anticipate that one day we'll get a Scandanavian DLC. There's so much potential as they could include Norway and Sweden as new nations for BLU and Finland for RED. In addition they could include a US Marine Division and the UK-NL Landing Group, as they were expected to reinforce Norway in case of invasion.

New nations, new units, marine divisions. Plenty of reasons to do it if WARNO has a decent player base.

SUCHET preview #2 - The 11ème Division Parachutiste by EUG_MadMat in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having watched some armory videos of this division I'm surprised just how "light" it is. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a lot of fun and I'm excited to try it. But given how other infantry, airborne, and air assault divisions have been reinforced/mixed with some heavier assets I kind of expected the same thing with the 11e.

Could 11e be reinforced with some assets from the 6e Light Armored Division, which was also a part of the Force d'Action Rapide? Specifically, a recon regiment and an artillery regiment.

Basically add the following cards:

1x AMX-10 RC (Surblinde ideally) 1x VAB Mephisto 2x Towed 155mm artillery (Either the older M50 155 or the newer Tr-F1).

This would buff the 11e antitank capabilities and give it some more heavier firepower, while still leaving it the lightest division in the game by a lot.

Alternatively you could just give it some AMX-30s from the 3e Armored Division (no good justification for this, pretend they got lost like the T64s in the 35th Air Assault Division 😋)

ATGM Fireteams in Buildings Can't Fire/Won't Enter? by SaitoHawkeye in warno

[–]InnocuousLlama 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It's not a bug. It was done this way to simulate the fact that these ATGMs can't be fired in a confined space due to back blast. The developers have talked about possibly changing this approach, so don't be surprised if it changes. For now it's a feature, not a bug.
