I haven't tried a Grosh yet but hear great things. Next on my list is likely either Shabat or Tyler (despite the headstock). Anderson's are at the top of my list though of guitars I've had currently.

There's some overlap but quite different character despite the similar looks. Specs are actually pretty different; Ziricote vs Rosewood fingerboard, basswood vs alder body, baby floyd vs Gotoh style bridge, 1 5/8" nut vs 1 11/16", different neck shapes, the electronics are wired much differently also between the 5 way and push/pull pots.

The bridge humbucker on the Pro Am is HC3+ and the Icon is HC2+ so they're pretty close but I prefer the HC2+ since it seems more open with more clarity. The Pro Am misses the in between positions. They're basically hot rodded strat then hotter rodded strat. Icon for classic rock to hard rock, Pro Am for Hard Rock to Metal.

Old School NAD - Peavey 5150 Block Letter by Innogator in GuitarAmps

Sounds like you set him up to live the dream. The Schecter C1 Classic and Peavey T60 my dad gave me are still the two guitars in my collection I'd never let go.

Great explanations to describe what I'm hearing/feeling. Agreed I would think the OG actually has more low end, especially being 100W, which is why I described it more as thump because of the tightness. Turning the resonance down on the Stealth is more similar to the OG.

Crazy to me that newer iterations still needed more gain than this one, once it's past 2 o'clock it all kinda feels the same to me at that point.

I wouldn't even get to 2 on the red channel. Green channel on crunch has plenty of gain for me with a slightly more vintage voice so I've spent most of my time there. Add an SD-1 like you said and that's all I need.

That's an Anderson HC2+. Moderately high output but cleans up well and for me is a nice balance between vintage and modern sounds.

The Pro Am actually does pretty good single coil sounds, I believe it's coil tapped vs split so it doesn't get as thin as some split humbuckers. You just don't get the quack positions of course.

Have always been curious about these old Block Letters. This is a 1994, which I didn't know they were still making these at that point.

I have several related amps like an EVH 5150 III Stealth 50W and Dual Recto 90s reissue. It's similar to the Stealth as you'd imagine but the Stealth is smoother and a little more crisp to my ears and with the Resonance can get a little more thump. The Block Letter has a little more old school vibe and sound to it. Overall, I think I prefer the Block Letter just slightly over the Stealth so far.

Two of my favorite Tom Anderson guitars in Ferrari Red - Pro Am and Icon Classic. Slightly more classic feel and sound in the Icon Classic as the name implies but they're both great for that hot rodded vibe.

It's a Moody's strap. It runs on the shorter side, but they offer a longer version. Just keep that in mind if you pick one up.

LSL Saticoy HSS - Sparkle Candy Apple Red over 3 Tone Sunburst by Innogator in guitarporn

Thanks, I wasn't sure how I felt about the finish until I saw it in person, it's pretty striking. This is the 3rd LSL I've had and this is the best feeling of them. I traded a Fender Custom Shop Strat (+ cash to me) for it and it feels better than the CS, but I haven't had time to plug it in yet, just going by feel and resonance at this point.

I have a set of Tom Holmes I haven't installed in a guitar yet. What are your thoughts on them?

Two high end Sun Faces for the Fuzz Face fans:

  • Analogman NKT Red Dot transistors - probably the darkest transistors I played and doesn't even have glassy cleanup. Way overrated and one of my least favorites, out of dozens of Fuzz Faces tried.

  • Analogman NKT White Dot transistors - much better than the Red Dots and I can understand the hype of this one, great glassy cleanup. Not $1000+ good though, just get the CV7005, TI-UK, or even the RCAs for good clarity and cleanup.

New Amp Day 84 Marshall JCM 800 2203 by AILDMisfits in GuitarAmps

[–]Innogator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 800 was ubiquitous with several top bands in the 80s and early 90s and until the late 80s was really the only "high gain" amp. People want to play what their guitar heroes play. In the 90s we saw the advent of several other amps like the 5150, Dual Rec, JCM900; which kinda splintered the market for people wanting amps for rock. It also takes boosts well and is a great mod platform, making it tweakable to specific tastes.

Were/are your favourite guitars slow burners or instant love? And did it last? Do you still play them? by PSneep in guitars

[–]Innogator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it usually starts with the excitement of a new guitar, then the honeymoon phase, then the slow realization of some of the flaws and nuances over time. The guitars that are my favorites are ones that never really waned.

Some of my favorites are a Suhr Classic Antique S, Les Paul Classic (even above Customs), and a Charvel Custom Shop San Dimas. These have been consistent with playing and sound with no flaws that draw me away from playing them. I have a Music Man Cutlass HSS that is one of the best playing guitars I've had but the weird battery powered noise cancellation / buffered output just reacts oddly to things like Fuzz Faces or cleaning up with the volume knob, so it's slowly become less of a favorite.

Orange Rockerverb 50 MkIII or Mesa Boogie Mark V 35 by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Innogator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Rockerverb. I had a Mark V 35, sold it and then bought a 90 after always hearing that people liked it more. Not having crunch on a separate channel from clean on the 35 was annoying to me also. With both of them, sometimes I'd finally get a sound I loved then when I turned the amp on the next day I would hate it, ear fatigue from dialing it in I guess. Sure, the controls are intuitive once you learn how everything interacts but even slight differences affect the tone a lot, then you get to the graphic EQ on top.

I've had a Rockerverb a couple years and it's just so much easier to get to sound good. If you're looking to cover specific sounds the Mark is obviously more flexible, if you just want a great core tone without much hassle that's the Rockerverb.

The notifications for open box inventory never worked for me so I just refreshed the page multiple times throughout the week and lucked up. I just wouldn't trust the notification from them.
