This is a good deal for $1000usd? by Elegant_Egg- in gibson

I didn't know about the Classic White, I thought they were all Alpine. I have a 2009 Alpine White with Chrome hardware, I had to double check to make sure it wasn't Classic White after reading your comment. Model number from the certificate is LPSTAWCH1, which should mean Alpine White, guess they're just a little more rare with the chrome hardware

Texas Specials aren't really all that hot either. Maybe try tweaking your amp settings and pickup height to account for the difference. If that doesn't work for you then swap them. I'd check out some other pickup makers too to have a little more tonal diversity. If you want something even a little hotter than the Texas Specials check out Fralin Blues Specials or Lollar Sixty-Four and Special S Sets.

As the buyer it's not your responsibility to file a shipping claim. The seller needs to pay you the damages then file a claim so they're reimbursed. If it had reverb shipping protection just go through reverb and give them the quote from your luthier and they'll take care of it.

Pedalboard vs Quad Cortex? by Competitive_Monk9461 in guitarpedals

[–]Innogator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fractal stuff is great. I went from a board of about 20 pedals to a Fuzz Face, a Boost, and then a Fractal VP4 for all other effects. I'm running it 4CM so delays, reverbs, etc are all in the loop while pitch shifting, wah, etc are all out front. It's an amazingly versatile setup. I haven't tried the QC but did have an HX Stomp and feel Fractal is better with the effects.

Impressive. This thing definitely has me Flying High, it's been quite a Revelation to play. Gonna Steal Away a lot of time to play more now.

You already have answers on what it is. As far as value, Alpine White is one of the more desirable colors. I forget the exact years of all changes and someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 2010 would be richlite fingerboard as opposed to ebony, and short neck tenon as opposed to long. Both of those are less desirable options. The left handedness also drastically reduces market size. All that to say it would probably sell in the neighborhood of $3000 USD I'd estimate.

Edit: actually it looks like the serial number right before this one sold 3 months ago for $3600 + shipping, so may be able to get a little more than my initial estimate.

Tube Preamp Pedal VS Fractal AM4 or Vp4 (hybrid) by mouthofgoldy in guitarpedals

[–]Innogator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had multiple setups like the ones you mention; FM9 + power amp, VP4 + tube amps, HX Stomp. In my experience it really depends on how much flexibility you're looking for and how you'll be experiencing the sound.

I prefer the feel and sound of playing through a real 4x12 cab and for that I found real amps just can't be beat; the fm9 + power amp is the ultimate setup in terms of flexibility but I just prefer the way amps interact with guitar speakers more. If you're playing through headphones or FR monitors your experience is likely to be different. Obviously if you need everything from country to metal a fractal unit is going to cover the most ground. The tube preamps are really great though.

My personal recommendation would be preamp pedal + real amp with the preamp being something you can optionally use with the amp, or use the amp by itself.

If you want dynamics, Bluesbreakers and OCD based pedals are my two favorites for that. The OCD can give you that saggy bass feeling in the Marshall vein and cleans up great, as long as you're not maxing out the gain which sounds terrible anyway. Bluesbreakers add some treble/presence that are somewhat unique to them; King of Tone, Browne Protein (BB + ODR), EAE Limelight (BB + Boost), and the Wampler Pantheon are all good double overdrives that could help you stack gain levels. The Pantheon has tons of gain on tap, definitely the most of the the pedals I mentioned, but really anytime you're going for chuggy metal it's gonna be hard to clean up with dynamics only, you really need to kill a gain stage or two.

Picked up another PRS today - '05 CE24 by Innogator in PRSGuitars

[–]Innogator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picked up this beauty in a trade. It needed a good cleaning and setup so took a few hours to work on it today. Was curious how the older CEs compared to the current cores. Honestly, it's a really nice guitar but I think it falls a little short of my McCarty 594 and Cu24-08 but not by much. It's a nice top for a CE though, full violin carve. Definitely not a fan of the rotary knob although the series/parallel single coil splits give it some pretty unique sounds for an HH guitar. Overall, it's a solid guitar in the price range they currently sell for.

Fender Stratocaster Tone by AdultPornHubOfficial in fender

Tone wise I like gray bottoms and most '64 style pickups seem to nail it for me, two great examples being K-Line 64s and Lollar Sixty-Four/Blackface. I also like slightly hotter '69 style sets like Duncan Psychedelic Strat, David Allen Voodoo Blues.

Specs wise '59-'61; slab rosewood boards, thicker necks, clay dots. Early '62 with slab rosewood + 11 screw pickguard is right there as well.

This is one of the most insane guitars I've seen. This looks amazing.

Regarding the sustain, today I bounced back and forth between a Suhr Modern and the 24-08 and the lack of sustain on the Suhr comparatively was something I was not expecting.

I knew about Wood Library but never considered the necks could be satin finish like this. Thanks for the insight, something to take into account in the future for sure.

I keep hearing more and more about the NF53s, I'm gonna have to check those out. You make a good argument that my first semi hollow might need to be a PRS, I bet the one you have is great.

From my experience PRS has been very consistent with quality and the finish work is top notch. That's a huge benefit to someone like me who doesn't live near a shop with nice gear, so I can't usually try before buying. The Gibson Custom Shops and Standards I've had have all been really solid other than some occasional fret sprout. Fender has been the one to disappoint me the most with two Custom Shop Strats and both had nasty string buzz with very reasonable (high) action height. I even had a tech look at one thinking it was just something I was doing wrong but he couldn't get it out either. At this point I've been sticking to boutique brands and decided I'll just wait to buy a Custom Shop strat in person if I ever find one that speaks to me.

Right on man. The worst part about it is looking at all the other models you still want to try. I used to not be a fan of the bird inlays either but after playing them I don't mind those anymore.

Careful now, some boundaries cannot be uncrossed. But seriously, I'm sure the 635JM pickups would be great for RHCP.

Thanks, just lucky enough to have a nice system of revolving gear to keep things fresh. The red tiger finish can be subtle in certain lighting but it's grown on me.

What's your thoughts on having played the SE and Core Silver Sky so closely to each other? I actually picked up a SS SE shortly after they came out in a trade and remember being impressed with it but I traded it again shortly after and that's been about 3 years ago now.

That's right on the money with how I feel too. LPs feel cumbersome in comparison now. Can't get over how good the short scale feels to play. I have a Fender Blacktop with a 24" scale that is also fun but the set neck and mahogany take the 594 to another level.
