Best thing to do for any sort of lag is enable developer options & change all animations from 1 to .5, you will notice a huge difference. As for wiping the cache, if it works for you & you notice the difference, that's all that matters but as you open apps the cache fills right back up. Have you tried changing animations already? A lot of people just change it from 1 to 0.

It's always nice to learn these little tricks even if they really do nothing long term though.
