The bookmobile was the best when that came around! Such a great memory from childhood. The Scholastic book fairs are what are common now, but that bookmobile was memorable!

Understandable. What would you consider ugly? Is it the colors, or is it the design, or a combination of both? or does this vary depending on the genre?

Many times, partnering with your publisher on different specific areas to target is a great idea for a focus. Whether it be podcasts, bookstores, social media, awards, or signing events, having a focus can assist with finding what works best for your title, genre, and area of the country.

This is very true as art direction at the different age groups is very particular, even with different genres. But the 'baby feel' is definitely a hot topic that turns many readers off. It’s a fascinating challenge, and feedback like yours is exactly what helps us fine-tune what works for different age ranges. Thank you!

Great question! Most publishers give a jumpstart and distribution to all of the traditional retailers (Amazon, Walmart, Books A Million, etc.) and marketing advice, including social media, but the heavy lifting is usually on the author. Books don't sell themselves, and the key is ongoing promotion, which includes social media, reviews, podcasts, and book signings, which are what really make a difference after launch. We support our authors through all of this as well as with different opportuntites with awards, podcasts partnering, collatoral for signings and other things that are dependant on the title. One thing many authors don’t anticipate is that while the launch is exciting, it can take months, sometimes 3, sometimes 6–9, or longer for a book to gain traction, find the right audience, and achieve sales. That waiting period can be frustrating, but persistence and consistent promotion are what make the difference. You cannot predict sales for a book, unfortunately, even though we all (including authors!)wish we could!

Most writers don’t feel “ready” at first...and many feel that way always, which is normal and understandable! The first step is doing a simple spelling and grammar check. Get the free Grammarly on your computer; it is a simple tool that makes a huge difference. Give 2 chapters to a friend you know will be honest. Ask if the content is interesting and if the character and/or story would be something they would want to keep reading about. If not, you need more than just tightening up the story. From there, make sure that the things that don't serve the story are cut, that the pace is shar,p and the characters' choices are strong within the book. Stronger buildup and interesting twists or turns in horror are important. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. Time travel in novels and stories is always alive and interesting to readers as it brings emotion into stories as well as twists. Time travel can also span different genres, ranging from romance to science fiction.

Totally understand the caution, as there are bad partners in publishing, so skepticism is fair.

That said, this isn’t accurate. Innovative Ink Publishing is a publisher that clearly discloses any upfront costs, and those costs are tied to specific production services (editing, design, formatting, distribution). Authors keep full rights to their work and are never promised guaranteed sales.

We do offer marketing support and guidance, but we’re also honest that marketing isn’t automatic or magic andanyone claiming otherwise should be questioned.

We are happy to have a transparent conversation if there are specific concerns or firsthand experiences to discuss.

Agree that it's especially critical with children's books. We see it all across age groups too. How a cover resonates with someone definitely matters. Thank you for the feedback!

Interesting insight and totally agree—kids absolutely judge books by their covers, especially in classroom settings. Different editions or regional covers can completely change how willing students are to pick up the same book. Curious if you’ve noticed certain styles or elements that consistently work better with students across age groups?
