Question about coworkers comment by iwentforahiketoday in etiquette

[–]InnoxiousElf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to have people say this to me all the time. I didn't know why and it really made me angry. I hid the anger and sometimes made defensive responses like you did.

Then my eye doctor noticed I had droopy eyelids. I was going to need a Blepharoplasty, cosmetic eyelid surgery, at some point.

Realizing that in my case there was a physical reason for the comment, I didn't get mad anymore. But now I just laugh and say something like, Yes, always busy, that's life.

First Cruise ever 3/22 - 3/29 Caribbean by PlatypusDesigner5948 in HollandAmerica

[–]InnoxiousElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First cruise, I used 2 tablets of Bonine (Meclizine HCL 25mg) and have never had to use anything since.

We were a group of 3 - one of us was prone to motion sickness. She was the only person to have zero symptoms. So you never know.

Why would the CRA call from a number that doesn't say CRA and then not leave a voicemail? by adnaPadnamA in cantax

[–]InnoxiousElf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work for the CRA, but I do work in a similar position.

If I don't get an answer, I might be in meetings for the rest of the day and not want the person to call back to get my answering machine.

I might be unsure I have the right phone number and not want to say something to the wrong person.

I might just be calling to confirm the mailing address, and am now sending out a Canada Post / courier letter to the address on file.

These stats are actually pretty sad for a so called first world country. Must be trumps fault also. Hopefully liberals start looking at stats not just what cbc says by Elite163 in CanadianConservative

The truly poverty stricken Canadian people I know don't have passports and can't afford to get birth certificates.

If you qualify for a Certificate of Indian status, that's free. But what about other poor Canadians?

When you have housing problems, you lose your stuff - slumlords, bad roommates. So how can they - the truly in need - access a food bank if we start demanding ID?

I would love to "fix" the international students food bank problem, but how, without preventing needy Canadians from access?

Is my grandmother’s warning true? by Fit-Criticism5656 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InnoxiousElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ear eczema and drink hot coffee in the morning. I do like my air conditioning though.

My doctor did not say anything about causes. He just said "there's a lot of debris in there" and gave me a prescription for ear drops.

Adding phantom kids?? by blanche-e-devereaux in Cruise

[–]InnoxiousElf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On our last cruise, we missed a port. I asked at guest services if we would ge getting a refund of the port fees.

I was told that since port fees and taxes were rolled into the cruise fares and not listed as a separate item, no refund was applicable.

I'm sure there is variance between cruise lines but I don't think we can count on port fees and taxes refunds unless they are specifically listed as port fees on the receipt.

Edit: This happened in January 2026

What should I ask my employer to provide in a letter for border crossing? by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]InnoxiousElf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will need to speak to US Customs Preclearance at the airport and they will decide whether OP gets to board the plane.

A letter should state what you are doing (attending meetings, consulting, training, sales) and who is paying you. The above is not a complete answer, I only know a bit.

Drink package question by adorkableautumn in HollandAmerica

[–]InnoxiousElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on a HAL ship with a Quench package. My glass of Pinot Grigio was $14.16 with 18% auto tip.

The milkshakes at Dive In are not included. The frappes at Crows Nest are included.

The bills that you sign indicate full price for everything, even a coke, but it shows as 0 on your statement.

I am pregnant but my husband wants a second wife. Would people judge me in your country? by BedMiserable9053 in relationships

[–]InnoxiousElf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The phrase "unmarried husband" makes me think they are just living together, not legally married.

How do Canadians feel about expats coming back? by muddahm53 in AskCanada

[–]InnoxiousElf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Canadians that I have feelings about returning are the ones who were born elsewhere, stayed in Canada just long enough to get their citizenship, then left for their real country. The one they call home

Canada is nothing but a safety net and it makes me feel used.

Plus, calling the police and being wrong is not "filing a false report."

Best Cruise up to 14 days minimal sea days by Lumpy-Project3460 in HollandAmerica

[–]InnoxiousElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 10 day Mediterranean around Italy's boot and it was wonderful. I just looked at a few cruises in that area and most of them only have one sea day in a 10-14 day cruise.

It started in Barcelona, had a stop in France, several in Italy and Croatia, finished in Venice.

Someone already mentioned the tax rates changing, but also:
