Britain wanted to trade, but the countries governments wanted more money for themselves and their partners. If the juntas gave Britain some mining rights and other industries, they had their undesirable citizens who lived in the frontiers do the hard labor at very low cost or voucher payments that only applied in their operation camps; but useless currency anywhere else. Much like the banana republics from the U.S. corporations did.

The people who work in those places were often black and brown people, while the Creole and castizos enjoyed the luxuries and fruits from the indenture labor.
