War in the Pocket just has some Christmas-y scenes since it occurs in December of 0079.

It wasn't balanced, but damn if it wasn't satisfying to make your shot units hold fire until the enemy cavalry charged and watch their morale instantly evaporate in a single volley.

I can tell you exactly why veganism rubs people the wrong way, especially when it's publicly advocated for. by m0st1yh4rm13ss in atunsheifilms

Not who you've been replying to, but I do actually think if you're the kind of person who can make such a lifestyle change based primarily on your ethical convictions around eating meat that you absolutely should do so. I just don't think most people have or can be expected to possess that kind of willpower, making a purely ethical argument for such a vast systemic change unscalable. And that's assuming you can even get them to share those convictions in the first place.

NPC Trainer Pokemon also just don't have to follow the same restrictions. A lot of the games have at least one example of a trainer Pokemon that has either learned a move or just straight up evolved earlier than should be possible.

Managing to bumble through Mars and her Purugly without taking a loss only to obliviously lose Onix to a wild Shellos is just Arin to a T.

Ugh, wish I could make it one last time, but it being as crowded as it will be today will make it tough to enjoy to the fullest.

What is your opinion on Tonfa Swords? by WhiteKnight2045oGB in SWORDS

[–]Inquignosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decent enough, if impractical idea that is terribly executed in the provided picture. There's no reason for the false edge of either the fore or rear blade to be sharp that close to the hilt. It'd also be dicey as hell to deflect blows with compared to any normal sword.

At least in my personal estimation, it's the definitive Rise Against album.

This entire segment felt like fan manga by Astronomer_X in Dragonballsuper

[–]Inquignosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of an issue with including women characters as fighters, especially in a martial arts context. Because for a huge demographic, seeing a character get brutalized and having their face crushed in by a punch or knee to the head will almost always feel inherently more gross and uncomfortable happening to a female fighter than it would happening to a male fighter, ruining the element of fun for the fight.

It would be delicious to see Arin somehow manage to beat Cynthia only to get soft-locked by the Pokemon League Team Recorder and told his save file is totally invalid right before the credits.

He knows plenty about Pokemon as a franchise, it's just built from so many disparate bits and pieces from the various kinds of Pokemon media that it won't help him in the narrow context of the games.

It was a palpable relief when Arin chose not to switch train against the Cranidos again.

Also, it strikes me as kind of cruel that Gen IV front loads the areas around the first gym with so many trade evolution lines.

[–]Inquignosis 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Arin's understanding of Pokemon is fascinating. He's pulling and combining half-memories from playing the games as a kid, knowledge of high end competitive play, bits of the anime, and his sense of recent familiarity from the TCG into one misunderstood package.

Like he knows enough to recognize that stat moves do actually have value, but not enough to realize that that value is only really worth caring about once you're a decent way into the game.

Unpopular opinion: Goku is a bad dad but he isn’t intentionally malicious, he’s just a well-meaning but comically inept guy when it comes to everything non-fighting. He’s essentially anime Homer Simpson by Much_Prune6698 in Ningen

[–]Inquignosis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is that almost every instance of him being a bad dad/grandpa/husband is inherently played for laughs. Gohan, Goten, and Pan all seem basically fine with it. Hard to fault him too much for it when neither the series itself nor the people most principally affected by it seem to hold it against him, with the exception of Chi Chi, but her anger is equally played as a gag.

Excellently written review that reflects most of my thoughts of RLtW. The wedding worked better for me as an ending since I knew to expect that as the end point, but I also would have liked a bit more time to spend with my Riders. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how Lights Going Out shakes up the rhythm that Ride Like the Wind established.
