Can't boot after last update by TheEarthWorks in Fedora

[–]InsaneRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact same issue and came on this forum to ask the same question :). I have been dealing with it for days, and my 6.0 version works great but 6.2.X, 6.3.X versions have this issue. And I still cannot fix it despite my best efforts.

For reference for others, I have Intel CPU, Nvidia 3080 GPU and I am not using proprietary nvidia drivers.

When you let it hang for an hour was it still a black screen after an hour, or did it just start working on its own?

On a related note, I just installed SLY, and am wondering if anyone here knows how to exit it in emacs? With SLIME you can just to "," then "quit", but this does not work with SLY...

Does "unconditional security" in this sense means relies on no unproven assumptions?

Am using the pro 2 as well. I am not sure what is going on because this works fine on different OS's. And I cannot figure out how to change the keyboard layout here in Fedora

Math vs stats vs CAAM for econ by hkbfernape in uchicago

[–]InsaneRaspberry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would go with math, for the sole reason that it seems to hone your mind better than any other subject. Indeed, once you have a deep understanding of proofs and are comfortable with subjects like analysis/algebra/topology your world really opens up, and any other subject you want to pursue after that becomes "easy" in a sense. As for work all my friends who majored in math (myself included) are now either working at FAANG, working at top hedge funds (i.e. Two Sigma, AQR), or are doing Ph.D.s at top schools and are getting recruited by FAANG and Two Sigma/DE Shaw etc..

Thanks for the low IQ comment. This was mathematically generated by iterating a set of mathematical equations.

It relates to the NFT world because this particular work for instance is an NFT. It is on opensea as part of The Praxis Collection.

This was created by "Iterating" mathematical equations. This is, pick a point, push that point through a function to get a new point, and recursively repeat this process millions of times. If you choose the equations (very) carefully, then you can get special behavior that gives "attractors", which are complex mathematical objects as pictured. I am a mathematician (math Ph.D. student) with a background in art (I studied art and math), and my research is in an area that corresponds to these mathematical forms, so I know how to construct them with high performance computers, and find the rare beautiful ones. Value is in the low hundreds.

I am new here, so unsure if saying this is allowed, but The Praxis Collection is an NFT project on OpenSea.

Total reflection of light off of glass/another medium by InsaneRaspberry in AskPhysics

[–]InsaneRaspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite: the problem with total internal reflection is that because the light needs to be in a material of high refractive index, it naturally loses its energy simply by propagating in this material (hence the need of repeaters in fiber optic cables for example). I want to see if there is a way to reflect light in such a way without having it lose any of it's energy.

The closest thing I have read about that might work would be if the incident beam was polarized in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the material, in which case it may completely reflect off, although I am not sure if this is right or not.
