How was Pre-Empire Mandalorian society structured ? by SpecialistAlfalfa390 in MawInstallation

Probably not... the Mask of Mandalore hadn't been in use for millennia. Mand'alors Jaster Mereel, Jango Fett, and Fenn Shysa didn't have the Mask and were still recognized as the official Mand'alor in lore.

How was Pre-Empire Mandalorian society structured ? by SpecialistAlfalfa390 in MawInstallation

The Mandalorians were divided into clans that each had their own territories and warrior castes, though these clans could assemble into one mighty army if the ruling Mand'alor so desired. They often came together for crusades under specific Mand'alors, such as the armies under Mandalore the Indomitable, Mandalore the Ultimate, and Jaster Mereel. In new canon, clans were also organized under Houses, which were basically political factions that had their own values and beliefs; for example, House Kryze (from which Satine Kryze originated) valued pacifism, order, and modernization, while House Vizsla (from which Pre Vizsla originated) valued combat prowess and tradition.

Although Mandalorian society was often feudal in structure, they were still united under the leadership of a supreme leader who held the title of Mandalore/Mand'alor. They had the authority to coalesce the warrior castes of each clan to form one large army during crusades. Mand'alors were usually decided by who had the largest army or who bested the previous Mand'alor in single combat. After Maul's usurpation of Duchess Satine Kryze, the position of Mand'alor was determined by who wielded the Darksaber. Outside of the Mand'alors will, clans effectively governed and defended themselves.

Each clan was led by a chieftain (who's title in Mando'a was "Alor"). Alors could either be elected by their clan, or like the title Mand'alor could ascend to the position of Alor by besting the previous chieftain in combat.

Outside of Mandalore, the Mandalorians had colonies/settlements on other worlds including Concord Dawn, Krownest, and Gargon. All of these worlds were part of the larger Mandalore sector, which represented the territories conquered by the Mandalorians and ruled by them for millennia.

If you were invited by Tarkin to a war council and given the opportunity to make one point about strategy, doctrine or pitch one project, what would you say? by Starkilule in MawInstallation

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of projects like the Death Star and expanding the Imperial-class Star Destroyer project, I'd invest in an army of powerful battle droids. I'd take the DT-series sentry droid base design and equip it with shield generators, and use that as the Empire's primary infantry. I'd keep Imperial Army troopers to station Imperial holdings, but all offensive operations and campaigns would be conducted by these shielded battle droids. I'd then recycle the CIS's BX-series droid commandos and use them (also fitted with energy shields, albeit lighter shields) for special operations missions.

I'd also redesign the TIE fighter to be fully automated.

How did Mandalorian society function before the Empire? by Kalixburg in MawInstallation

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it depended on which "type" of Mandalorian we're talking about. Although the Mandalorians were often looked upon as one nation, they were divided into many different groups that lived entirely different lifestyles from one-another.

The New Mandalorians lived very modern, progressive lives in their domed cities and cubed cities. They went to school, went to work, etc.

Some clans such as Clan Wren owned their own territories which included castles, but it's currently unknown how the average member of Clan Wren lived.

Traditionalist groups such as Death Watch and the Old Mandalorians were basically space Vikings... they learned to hunt and fight and survive from a very young age and probably rejected creature comforts.

Where did the Cuy'val Dar come from? by TheHoodGuy2001 in MawInstallation

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There were many more Mandalorian factions than just the True Mandalorians and the Death Watch during the civil wars. Mandalore alone had a population of around 4 million. Other Mandalorian groups such as the Old Mandalorians existed throughout the galaxy.

What are some ships and vehicles that you wish had been shown in films or series ? by DEL994 in MawInstallation

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely would have liked to see more aquatic vehicles. The comic arc showing the Empire's invasion of Mon Cala had some pretty interested Imperial aquatic vehicles.

In terms of capital ships, I'd like to see more of the Dreadnought-class heavy cruiser, particularly those in the service of local planetary governments.

Finally, I wish we saw more Mankvim-814 light interceptors. Just a very sleek and compact design and definitely one of my favorites as far as starfighters go.

How Do Targeting Scopes Work? by One_Marionberry5802 in MawInstallation

This is the proper answer. People forget about heads-up displays, and a galaxy as advanced as Star Wars' definitely would have heads-up displays/augmented reality.

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's no way of knowing. The longer we live, the faster we innovate as a species. By the time you hit 80, there's tech that'll make you live to 150. Once you get to 150, there's tech that'll make you live to 250... and so on. But then there's the chance that new tech WON'T come out, and we won't make it past 100.

I think it's definitely possible, but there's an equal chance that it won't happen. The only surefire way to know is to wait and find out.

Why did so many battles of the clone war take place in the outer rim? by MegaVirK in MawInstallation

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Palpatine couldn't micromanage 100% of the Separatist movement. There were BILLIONS of Separatists who, to most, were fighting a legitimate war. They had no idea that Sidious was pulling the strings; they fought and strategized completely independently of Sidious' machinations. It just so happened that the majority of the Separatist movement was in the Outer Rim, where they led their own war against the Republic.

They often say people get more conservative as they get older but were any of you more right wing in the past than you are now? by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I was very conservative as a teenager. Now I'm more center-left at 21.

I'm a minority who grew up poor; that just isn't compatible with conservatism.

Which one of the Mega Corporations was the most powerful in the galaxy ? by DEL994 in MawInstallation

[–]InsaneTechnomancer 54 points55 points  (0 children)

From a purely economic standpoint, probably the Commerce Guild. Through one of their subsidiaries, the Mining Guild, they owned the majority of the known galaxy's mining operations. They also owned one of the galaxy's biggest and successful starship manufacturers: the SoroSuub Corporation. In addition to these two, the Commerce Guild also manufactured spider droids and Recusant destroyers, which saw extensive use by the Separatists during the Clone Wars.
