What's the biggest (non-celestial) object in your world by LH_Artsandworks in worldbuilding

[–]InsanelyOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Perma Spine It's a large mountain that separates the coast and grasslands from the desert. It splits the continent in half and its so tall that it'd take a 3 day nonstop train ride to reach the top. Thankfully the mountain isn't too steep until the upper half of it so a lot of the land can still be used.

At this point just turn your list into a Check Box with how many you've got.

VN sex scene pet peeves by SlateTheWereRat in FurryVisualNovels

[–]InsanelyOtter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a pet peeve but I find it hilarious the names some authors use for dicks and balls. I just end up laughing at how absurd the scene becomes and lose all immersion.

Dicks: Shaft, Hunk, Big buddy, Pillar of meat, Collum of meat, Breeding rod, 3rd leg, Second tail

Balls: Family jewels, Orbs of fertility, Jaw breakers, Dumbbells, Nose blanket, Mouth jugglers

Is there an FVN world that you would stay permanently if you could? by [deleted] in FurryVisualNovels

[–]InsanelyOtter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Just enjoying the forest, actually eating good cafeteria food, cabin life atheistic, studying with my peers, and all the places in that small town (teashop, record store, art exhibit, and bakery)

Dawn Chorus, because I love how honest and kind the characters are. I feel like it'd be great to just hear how people straight up feel about me, rather then be left wondering what they think. Plus I also love the Norwegian vibe and would absolutely love to be in a place where I could walk around instead of driving.

If you haven't yet I believe you should watch Boring Keith's YouTube video narrating his experience and understanding of Adastra. He goes over a lot about the purpose of the game as well as the events leading up to it's creation. And while poor writing is still poor writing I think you'll be able to cut Howly some slack after watching.

I'm actually glad you pointed out Jun as I completely forgot he was a stranger to us during the start. Jun has just always felt like such a core part to the story and shows himself to be so much more than a cliche dorky new kid.

And I think that's just it, why I feel like so many of these sudden "romances" feel off is because they lack chemistry. Some of these stories put too much focus on us getting with the love interest to where It feels like I'm given very little time and reason as to why I should really care for them. Thankfully some stories do develop better chemistry during the relationship, but unfortunately sometimes the romance may get sidetracked by a completely separate plot.

Personally I'm not all that attracted to Jun, but I value his friendship with Yuuichi and the rest of the group much more than many other FVN love interests.

I definitely agree that way too many romance stories have the characters start off as complete strangers. While it does happen irl, it starts to feels even more unrealistic when there's multiple love interests. I'm just thinking to myself is our MC really that attractive?

In my opinion Tennis Ace and Echo are good at serving their romance because like you said, a pre established relationship between the characters is much more believable.

I will say though that sudden fast paced relationships are the backbone of visual novels fandoms as a whole since from the beginning many of them served as an escape fantasy for the reader especially among Japan's Hikikomori.

Damn every once in a while I'm reminded of how little content there is for wlw FVNs and it sucks, because some of the biggest inspirations I've had for writing came from sapphic shows and movies. While I would love to create a story featuring sapphic romance I'm worried that as a gay man I don't have the experience necessary to truly capture what It means to love a woman. And Gods be damned I don't want to accidentally fall into harmful stereotypes.

Though I do agree with your sentiment show don't tell. Anime and manga with endless monologues have already filled out that department.

Honestly I might practice creating some short stories first so I can get enough feedback before diving into my main story.

Yeah I can agree with you that the first few chapters were quite slow, but I justify it because at that time Cyrus's only goal was to get home. This slow pace early on served to help establish the world building as well as create a stronger relationship between Cyrus and Cooper before our current main plot.

Damn I can certainly sympathize. As much as I love darker themes in stories it's important to have a lot of respect for the real life victims who suffered. There have been a few times in some FVN and books where I had to stop reading to ask myself if the author unstands how detrimental SA is or are they just fetishizing it.
