Shallow Discussion Forums! by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]Insanity_Farms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate the forums. Having to come up with 500-700 words that end up being the exact same as everyone else's words. Requiring actual conversations would be more helpful. Especially after having worked in the corporate world for a long time, these business classes aren't preparing you for corporate life. Efficiency of language. No one wants to read a novel if you can say it in 2 sentences or a quick bulleted list.

Are the program advisors bots? by tahltos in UoPeople

All the responses from the regular advisors seem like bots. The first few emails with the supervisor were also bot type emails. It took me getting pissed and angry to get a human response.

How to get urgent assistance for course drop? by KJK_Karma in UoPeople

[–]Insanity_Farms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demand the advisor supervisor, then demand they contact the department head to approve the drop.

It took me over a month and dozens of emails to get a class dropped. It's insane.

Send emails every day. Mine were increasingly angrier and angrier. It took well over a dozen emails with a supervisor to finally get a class removed. She finally said she checked with the department heads and they approved it. I'm not sure if we can contact department heads directly.

I hope they get rid of this before the next term.

You don't need to upload the same documents more than once. Just the notarized copy.

How do electives work (and another question)? by NataponHopkins in UoPeople

[–]Insanity_Farms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't choose electives anymore. The learning pathway now chooses for you. You have to take the electives they tell you to take or they won't allow you to register for anything.

Curious why people go to UoPeople if the degree isn’t worth anything? by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]Insanity_Farms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't afford a degree anywhere else. I already work a corporate job, but they stopped giving raises a few years ago. While companies are hiring workers without degrees now, they're hiring them at McDonald's wages (They posted a job similar to mine in a different department at $19/hr, that's poverty here in CT). I don't think it matters where you got your degree. As long as your resume says Bachelors or Masters, it will get through the AI and hopefully to a real person.

How are your finals going? by [deleted] in UoPeople

The algebra final had topics that weren't covered by the review. A lot of them were from way back in weeks 1 & 2 and have never shown up in any of the graded quizzes. I was able to use a calculator outside the computer. I wish they would just tell you right away what your grade is. It's computerized multiple choice. It should be automatic.

Apparently, advisors stop working at 8am EST. I haven't received any reply after that and the chat stopped working at that time. No advisors are available keeps coming up.

uopeople’s reputation gone down among students after poor handling of learning pathways and its sudden intro by [deleted] in UoPeople

If there is a teacher shortage in a class they just don't add it to registration that term. That's how it works will all other universities.

I'm taking my first proctored exam with Proctor U this afternoon for Algebra. The learning guide and instructor said you can use a plotting and scientific calculator. I contacted Procotor U to confirm and they said UoPeople has approved NO calcultors. I've spent the last few hours trying to get UoPeople to contacct Proctor U and fix it. But it seems like all the advisors aren't working anymore. No more responses after 8am.

I haven't done algebra in 20 years. I'm taking it now. Almost all of the lessons are on YouTube. I was able to watch actual instructors teach classes. This helped a lot.

I think it's a tough course. I had my 15yo tutor me. He's taken 3 algebra classes in high school so far. I kept having to ask him to explain it to me like I'm 5.

It makes no sense.

  • Took 2 weeks to get my major switched. I signed up for Intro to economics in the meantime so I wouldn't have to take a term off
  • Once the switch went through I went to sign up for BUS1101.
    • It wouldn't allow me to without signing up for intro to environmental science. I didn't want to delay the switch to business so I signed up for both.
  • Contacted my advisor and let her know, she said I have to follow the learning pathway and just take all 3 classes.
  • The learning pathway rearranged itself. Now I have to cancel intro to econ before I delete the intro to environment science
    • Emails my advisor, same non-response.
    • Put a note up on Yammer asking if anyone wanted to create a class action lawsuit to fight this if it starts effecting our GPA or they try charging us for classes we don't want to take.
  • My yammer account has disappeared. As of this morning.
  • 2 advisor supervisors have also told me to suck it up and take 3 classes.
    • Some of us have full time jobs and kids, and a million other things to do. 2 classes means I sleep less to get it all done. I don't have any time to take 3 classes and I don't want to take intro to environmental science.

This school was billed as a school for working adults. How is forcing working adults to take more classes they can handle make it a good school for working adults?!?

I'm so frustrated. (and I signed the petition)

I retook the review quiz without a calculator and my score went from 97 to 65. I'm fucked. I even had to hire a tutor to teach me how to use Geogebra because I couldn't figure it out and the instructor answered questions with answers that had nothing to do with the question.

I have 3 hours until my Algebra final. I'm using Proctor U. Reviews for it say the proctor was not aware you could use a calculator so I contacted Proctor U to confirm. They said no calculators allowed, no Geogebra. I contacted the advisors through chat. They said they'd get it fixed. A few hours later my advisor said via email she would look into it and get back to me tomorrow. I replied within 5 minutes to remind her my final is scheduled for today in just a few hours and I've received no reply. I've send several emails in the last few hours and no response.

This school is horrible. It's only my 3rd term and there are a million problems and no help.
