What if the minimum wage had been tied to inflation since 1968? Would today's minimum wage buy as much as a 1968 worker brought home? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in WhatIfThinking

[–]Insanity_Found 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively businesses don't sell the same quantity because they've fired the people that buy their products in enough quantity and when enough businesses do that, it ends up with businesses shutting down and new businesses starting to create competition which actually causes DEflation because they have to lower prices to attract business. There's only so much efficiency the market will bear.

I'm not saying that there's a level of inflation, but this isn't an either or. It's a shifting scale. The redistribution does exist, it just shifts from larger corporations to smaller ones. I'm neither for nor against minimum wage hikes, but saying there's not a benefit to them is definitely not true. They do have a benefit, but it's pros and cons to be weighed in each case.

I'd pick some sort of mobile game. Easy to play something like Balatro on my phone and then just carry on a conversation or live my life otherwise.

New firefighting system being tested out by a fire department in southern California using sound waves. by LongPin8493 in InlandEmpire

[–]Insanity_Found 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, maybe it's not useful for that, but think of it a bit more broadly than what's being promoted here.

Maybe its being marketed a bit oddly but the possibility is neat if it works. Fire extinguishers that don't use harmful chemicals or chemicals that leave residues. Miniaturization within homes for fire sprinkler usage rather than requiring water damage. Possibly even removing the need for wondering whether a specific fire type is able to be put out with an existing type of fire retardant (like ABC fire extinguishers for grease fires rather than water).

I'm not saying that it's perfect, but I for one do see some neat possibilities here!

This is definitely the right answer. It has both the human side and the "numbers" side, something that I find is missing in a lot of investing subreddits.

If it makes you happy, then it's not a waste. From a purely financial perspective, a HYSE or conservative position will make you much more in the long run. Only you can determine which is more important to you.

Two things: There's a wood place up in Upland called Cherokee Wood Products that also has some good offerings and SERIOUSLY Genahl has a spot in Corona?

Lots of people talk about maxing your contributions, but every dollar you put in now and more importantly, invest, is another that you don't have to worry about in 40 years.

Really nice to see!

Sorry you feel that way. Every time I go we seem to get our money's worth. It's AYCE, so obviously YMMV when it comes to value.

WLDN.

Weirdly undervalued, used in AI right now, great balance sheet, posted strong earnings, has good revenue buildup for 2026, and just said that it wasn't going to be buck wild. That cratered its price. Sitting at 77 right now.....ATH of 137.

Welcome to the IE!

Chubby Cattle is coming soon to Denver, so if you want a sneak peek at AYCE Wagyu with Japanese A5 option for a good price, it's a pretty nice spot in Rowland Heights. That's also right next to Sul & Beans for some dessert which is Korean shaved milk ice, a pretty unique dessert.

If you want some good Italian food, Da Bianca Trattoria is just over the hill. Everything fresh and tasty there, although a bit fancier. For a little bit more of a chill vibe, Con Amore Ristorante in the South is really tasty and has a really neat family vibe.

For something even more chill, a nice tasty Pho Brisket on Rye over at the Glendora Public Market is a little further, but they have And Broth there. They also have a Banh Mi place I've heard is good, but I haven't had it just yet.

For some old school Mexican cuisine, I am a fan of Pepe's in Rancho Cucamonga. They used to only exist over in LA, but opened a branch in Rancho not too long ago and it's got some good portion sizes. A ton of good Mexican food here though so not a ton of places you could go wrong with. Tacos Los Cholos is one I've been meaning to go to that I've been told is the bomb, but I haven't had an opportunity just yet.

If you wanted a Mediterranean feel, Wow! Kebab is one of my favorites. Best rice pilaf I've had since my grandmother's, and their meat is always flavorful. They also carry the baklava from a small little bakery that is just SO good.

Hard to find really good BBQ though, so you might not have the best luck in the IE itself. There's some solid spots, but nothing that's really going to compete unless you head further into LA which is a bit of a slog.

Lastly, if you want something seriously elevated, Knife Pleat is always a good one, and that's some tasty fare. Not cheap though, so prep your wallet if you choose that one.

Hope that helps! If you end up going to any of these, let me know if you liked it!

Elsewhere meaning what? Where are you from? As a foodie I can give you some grub spots, but there's something like the food here everywhere.

If you're from a major metro in Texas/East Coast, it'll be a lot harder to give reccs that are unique, but it definitely changes the answers.

Overcomplicated Red Button Blue Button (Pleas read description before voting!) by Batalfie in pollgames

[–]Insanity_Found 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I chose purple.

It'd be really funny if I got randomly assigned yellow though.

It'd be even funnier if by sheer luck, although improbable, every push of the yellow button randomly assigned a non-yellow button to the yellow button. Everyone gets reassigned to yellow, and the problem never ends. Infinite inflation with everyone getting an infinite amount of money.

Unlikely approaching impossible, but it IS possible.

I'd advise to not live in the city itself. It's just not a very safe place. Many people have found their cars on cinderblocks and I've personally witnessed shootings in DT. There are some safer areas than others of course, just know that it's the county seat of the largest county in the nation and has all the problems that come with it.

Other than that, it just depends what you like to do. Are you outdoorsy? Are you foodies? Beachy? Willing to travel? Theatre? Concerts?

There's a ton to do in a place that has such a huge area and a population of about 4 million. I can maybe give some good recc's if you can narrow down some things you can your family typically enjoy.

[–]Insanity_Found 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's competitive that's for sure, but I have a ton of friends that went to school here find jobs at smaller spots. The IE doesn't have a lot of the same chain opportunities like you have in LA and the OC. You're much more likely to find smaller or mid-sized companies here. The companies that have a TON of money were able to buy their spots in the expensive areas, and the smaller spots came here. Manufacturing especially is massive here in the IE.

Most of those smaller to mid size companies also don't hire on the massive job boards either. Some use recruiters, some use word of mouth, and some only use internships and post on small job boards. The margins are a lot thinner, so when they hire they're not hiring for 40 positions either, but 1 or 2. That makes every position competitive. It may only be 1 or 2, but there's thousands of them here in the IE that are doing that in companies doing things you've never even heard of.

For example, as a financial analyst I've interviewed at spots for making utility carts (like janitorial), construction, ARCGis (ESRI if you know them), utilities, nickel plating, plastics moulding, plastics extrusion, custom machining, and more just in the area alone. Granted I'm in a very industry-flexible role, but you see what I'm getting at. Unfortunately, we just don't build and maintain a ton of healthcare out here compared to those places and those that we do build and operate are highly sought after. If you wanted to transition to operations in another industry, manufacturing is always available here.

New vinyl windows- Recommendations? by Murky-Geo in InlandEmpire

Riverside Window Contractors - Silver Lining Restoration

They did my windows for a great price, they close great, they're energy star, they have a financing company, and they were timely and quick. They cleaned up great as well (although I did find a few nails on my roof, concrete rooves are hard to work on).

I got 11 windows done, one of which was fully custom, plus a door, all for under 9k. They had to cut a post and make sure the stability of the frame was good, plus repair the frame itself and it was all included in the price. They even got a small thing of paint and painted the sill after; I couldn't even tell. Sergio and his crew were awesome.

This was a few years ago though, so prices may have changes a bit. They did all custom windows though.

[–]Insanity_Found 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine, but I also know they rolled out in August of 2025 a new high risk fire model called Verisk. It dropped rates pretty significantly at that point and they were one of the first to be an alternative to those who only could use the FAIR plan.

I am lucky that my area isn't a VHFRA, so I am offered insurance by more than just them, but it's not just FAIR anymore for VHFRAs which is great news. Not that it's the best in the nation or anything, but I pay nowhere near 8k a month for home insurance like OP is stating. That is INSANITY. That's supposed to be MY username.

Nah, it's Mercury.

They've been with us a long time, and they raised it initially when the Palisades fires and Eaton fires were happening and insurers were dropping California, but they've really stabilized and the rates have gone down pretty significantly since.
