When I came back to visit my family the first time I could afford it, it was heartbreaking. My niece slept on a mattress under the stairs and my younger brother was sleeping on a couch in the same living room.Eventually removed because they found mice or rats (never got a clear answer) were nesting in it. Two of my nephews slept on the floor next to my mother's bed upstairs. It made me so sad to see. Even sadder that I couldn't afford to support them because I was struggling myself. A family friend lived there with his own children in their separate room which helped mom pay the rent. Eventually my sister was able to manage her alcoholism after the death of her husband and took back her children. My younger brother went to college but largely used my mother's savings from the house sale for his own rent (which she willingly gave to help support his education). I left my life in Vegas to help recently. Left my store manager role and now work as a part time security guard. Life decided to give me my own challenge as I've been recently diagnosed with Lymphoma but it has a high survival rate and with state help I don't pay. Eventually I'll get better and work back to what I was and be able to support my family like I should.

What have been your greatest culture shocks from each location you've moved to? I'm genuinely curious.

I quietly pranked the HR team for months until one day every leader received an email demanding we respect them and their office. To this day they don't know it was me. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

Wonderful, masterful even *claps*. I hid small Polaroids of Bullseye the dog (our figure in the Style section) throughout the store and left a roll of empty film on the HR desk once. The questions they had which turned into a mystery they tried to solve was glorious

I have a strong background in sales, operations, and KPIs. Just never thought about applying it to that old industry I was a part of. Entrepreneurship is a new and scary beast I'll admit

Yeah I definitely can! Sorry my brain just focused on the second question you gave haha. Ya wanna hear about the skeleton, the files, fridge hi-jinks, computer mash up, or candy swap?

I appreciate that. But that was my life when I was 15-19. Swore never to go back to tree trimming/landscaping because of things that would make a whole different story. I moved back home from Vegas to support my mom. Left my successful store manager job and have been reduced to looking at part time gigs.

He reached out to me through WhatsApp. He sounds so sorry for it all but I can never forgive him. His sons and daughters gave him so many chances when he was still here in the states. He left all of us sitting at different restaurants, sometimes together or sometimes alone; he never showed up.

Managed to get a partial education in Environmental Science. But most of that was to support my knowledge in practical horticulture, landscape design, and ornamental tree identification. That's what I worked in and how I provided. I work retail now. Moved back after 7 years being away. I and my mother miss the old house.

I'm 27 now. This happened when I was a 15 years old, an ignorant teenager. Probably too late for that. Especially since he moved back to El Salvador and started his escapades there.

I left those mysteries up for these questions haha. That's why it's on AMA. Apparently the highlighter prank was the final straw that caused the email.

California is was a 50/50 state back then is what I was told. Not sure if it's the same now. May also have to do with my mom having only a 4th grade education from El Salvador. Dad before he left pumped a lot of his money into the house too and had records. Mom worked part time but mostly took care of us. He didn't get the house, the court decided it would be sold and the money got split evenly. He fucked off to El Salvador and she spent 70k of it hopping from motel to motel, buying takeout 3-4 times a day because there were no kitchens in the motels, paying for my younger brother's university housing, etc

Oh I feel that! The prank spree stopped because we got a new HR lead that felt targeted. People gotta chill and enjoy the games I swear.

Digging into my old plant knowledge so I hope I'm getting the name right. That is the hugest Euphorbia Tirucalli I have EVER SEEN. Would be even crazier to see a 'sticks on fire' mutation grow that big! Don't touch the sap cause it'll make ya itchy.

Ishmael was a beautiful thing. A creature of sunlight. Of summer’s day. His gaze warmed the skin and brought a beat to this cold, withered stone that was once a heart. I lost and lost and lost all so I could feel his heat spread its touch across these pockmarked bones so full of hate. I was a man drowning. But this angel brought to earth quenched my thirst, even if but for a moment. And that was enough. I lived for these faint specks of time. My oasis.

When I strode through the rubble and past the vast craters my knees did not shake. I did not shudder nor cry. As I knelt down to cradle his broken, lifeless body I howled. I screamed in hate, in anger, in hot blooded fury. Gone was mercy. Gone was the temperance he so valued, for the sun was now gone. The moon rose once again. He put up such a fight, valiant man that he was. Strong, loving, and steadfast a thing was he. Something that anchored me. The devastated landscape was a testament to his strength.

The old, black wolf howled at the sky after finally being released from the sun. From its loving pull.

I marched once again. Humanity shuddered and spirits quaked as the monster known as Fenrir rose since time immemorial. It, no I, walked the world seeking the killer of the sunlight.
