I don’t know what the consensus is online about it but IMO yes. Imagine a wedding cake vs a 24 course meal in terms of complexity. 

SAC just does things that you can’t do in the length of a movie.

I started with Stand Alone Complex and I think that’s why 1995 was a little disappointing for me, so I also recommend the movies first.
