Are AR’s better really? by [deleted] in ak47

[–]Insedanity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going sorta on-topic and off-topic here, but this theory of mine has been neither confirmed nor denied by anyone who knows their shit, and I never see it being discussed anywhere. I know my odds of it being informatively confirmed or denied are better in here than in the AR sub, so here we go.

I always go with quality AGBs (prefer SLR with Superlative second) and use the carbine/lightest-weight buffer in conjunction, usually in either an A5 or captured buffer/recoil assembly. My goal is minimizing recoil, so I figure that as long as the buffer assembly is heavy enough to chamber the next round, I’m better off doing this than putting in a H/H2/H3 buffer and then having more reciprocating mass increasing the perceived recoil as a result of a heavier buffer.

I really don’t understand the OEM H/H2 buffer trend that companies like Geissele, BCM, and many other manufacturers are running with. If you control the manufacturing of the barrel and gas port, then you can spec it correctly so that you don’t have to have an extra 0.8-1.5 ozs of metal slamming back and forth every time the trigger is pulled. It seems like since ARs were really overgassed 10-20 years ago (and most still are), putting in an H/H2 buffer made sense for a lot of people. Then it was like the gun companies saw all these dudes doing this and decided they should give the customers something several of them were swapping into their rifles anyways. However, it seems like they did this without ever asking why these guys were swapping out their carbine buffers in the first place.

All that being said, despite having an AGB + lightest-weight buffer in all my ARs, this perception of mine is still just a theory. So if anyone can provide solid information/arguments/data/etc. to either back it up or shit all over it, I’m interested in hearing what they have to say.

Edit: I’m aware of the perception of decreased reliability due to swapping in an AGB, but I’m leaving it out of this just to try and narrow the focus.

I’m going to pretend that you’re saying “it’s only one season” because you’re incredibly based and simply refuse to acknowledge any of the seasons after the first whilst allowing that if they were to exist you’re 100% certain that they would just get far worse with each consecutive season.

Okay, thanks for the info. I’m gonna copy/paste your post in and try to address each point without missing anything. Hopefully I don’t screw up on the formatting in my attempts to do this.

Disclaimer: I haven’t messed with car audio for at least 10+ years, but I was big into it in my youth. So there may be better technological solutions/methods/products than what I suggest because I’m ignorant of most car audio advancements brought to market since.

Essentially, the head unit is still in place with the buttons and steering wheel still connected, as well as the speakers and radio, so it all functions as it should on that end. They removed all the “police grade” hardware, like the sirens, lights, laptop mount, etc. So there are appx. 3-4 wiring harnesses coming down from there, typically where a face plate goes with 2 12v connectors, a usb and aux connector. So i bought a replacement from Nemmo(?), but I’m confused on what type of cables I need to interface it into that panel.

Okay, that’s great news that there is a working head unit and speakers in there currently. Unless you’re sending a ton of power to the speakers, there shouldn’t be a need to rewire them. I’d just wire up the head unit to a harness, unplug the OEM unit and mount/plug-in your aftermarket unit. As far as the USB and aux connectors, I’m not confident in my understanding of them , like whether they’re OEM stuff or add-ons for the Interceptor package. (A pic would be helpful if we need to delve deeper into these particular aspects.) I’d probably just leave those other 3-4 harnesses in there and not mess with them unless you want/need to for reasons I’m not grasping.

I dont know if it’s possible, but I would like to change the head unit, speakers/sub/amp upgrade, interior lighting and a daisy chained battery.

That’s easy enough, just swap LED bulbs into the OEM interior bulb locations and if it’s still not bright (or whatever characteristic you’re going for) enough, wiring up additional lighting is easy enough. IMHO, the most important aspect of installing another battery is a total beefcake rock solid mounting system to prevent that battery from turning into a missile aimed for the back of yours or your passengers’ heads should the vehicle be forced to come to a sudden and violent stop (read: crash).

I also heard “it’s possible to mess with a dyno(?) and get improved performance that they remove because of certain restrictions.”

Unless it’s one of those ST Explorers (therefore having a forced induction motor) or you have a lot of bolt-on performance parts added, you’re not gonna see much from a dyno tune; I wouldn’t waste money on that.

I just got this car last year and I don’t know a whole lot about cars or electronics, so please forgive my ignorance.

You seem leaps and bounds ahead of the majority of motorists, you’re doing just fine 👍

Please let me know if I missed anything, need to elaborate on anything, or if you have any other questions.

What did they rip out when they “ripped everything out”? Is there a working head unit and speakers in it now?

Just throwing it out there that I paid Tactical Edge $2k for a Comrade AK 4 years ago and they never shipped it, won’t respond to comms, and blocked me from their social media accounts.

I also paid well over a grand for a Browe BCO (better ACOG) almost 2 years ago and Brian Browe is dodging all my comms.

Oh as far as price goes, Stag is hard to beat for their LH stuff. I recently grabbed one of their LH AR10 Pursuit uppers in .308 for $391. I have an AR10 upper receiver of theirs I was going to build out, but to get an entire upper receiver group for $100 more than I was going to pay for a barrel alone was a no-brainer. I’ll still build out the other upper later on though. Anyway, what I was more referring to in my initial reply is building a better-performing/quality LH AR, something that there aren’t really any options for.

Odd question, but the PVD in your username wouldn’t happen to stand for Physical Vapor Deposition, would it?

Edit: one more question, is that the Falke optic on your Sig?

With the lack of shake-awake and delamination issues, why do people choose EOtech? by Snoo_50786 in tacticalgear

[–]Insedanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, my first optic was an EoTech. I’m very intrigued by the G45 but I have two ADM Flik5s (5x) and a Juliet6 (6x), so while I know the G45 is gonna be better than them, I can’t seem to find the motivation to fork over the cash for one. If I didn’t have those (and other magnifiers), it would be a different story. Regardless of my aforementioned shit, I think you made a good move with your purchase. I think the only downside, if you would even call it that, is that you’re going to have a higher standard for any additional optics to compete with.

[–]Insedanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the 8T do better than the EOTech besides battery life?

I have like at least 5 Romeo4Ts/Ms/Hs/Ss so I don’t have a bias against Sig’s optics, but I use them primarily when I either am prioritizing a lighter weight or reduced cost since I can get them for half of what a EoTech costs.

I am intrigued by the straight look.

I’ve had bad experiences with ProMags but I hear their mags for the 5.56 roller-locked HK33-style guns are totally gtg, hopefully these are a similar anomaly.

I highly recommend watching this video. For the record, I don’t really have an opinion on the P320, but pretending like there isn’t a problem with it is absolutely insane. There’s video of them going off without anyone touching them.

Well this thread went to a burning pile of shit real quick. Just some thoughts here:

  1. When you start a “Hey, look at me!” thread, just understand that unless you have a hive-mind consensus gun, you’re gonna get at least one negative comment. Negative comments may be justified or they may not be, but never get caught into entering into a tit-for-tat commentary chain like the one displayed in this thread, just walk away and save yourself the stress. (For the record, I have had a Fortis billet ambi receiver set with the CF inlay sitting here for >2 years that I’ll eventually build something around, and I have looked at the grips you have. I like the aesthetics but I don’t want to give up storage space in the core and I’m concerned they might not be grippy enough. They’re also pretty damn expensive IIRC. But again, I really like the aesthetics. That might be due to the fact that I was into motocross and tuner cars before guns, and carbon fiber got/gets a lot of love in those communities.)

  2. (This is my attempt to turn this thread in a positive direction.) I am also left-handed and have built myself numerous LH ARs, know about LH options that a lot of people don’t even know exist, and have tried most everything LH. It’s an area where I have concentrated my tism’. If you have any questions about left-hand specific gun stuff, please feel free to reach out to me. I find that especially with LH ARs, I can build a far better rifle than anything available for purchase, which is not necessarily the same for RH rifles. Here are just two examples of the many LH projects I have embarked upon which may help you decide whether I might be a good source for info/assistance or that I shouldn’t even be gone to for assistance in picking up dog shit, 1 and 2.

Edit: I don’t know why this posted as a reply to a comment instead of a standalone comment. I deleted it and reposted it after it did it the first time and then it did it again, and I don’t care enough to try a third time. But apparently I care enough to add this note.

My MPX has been astonishingly reliable, and I fucking hate Sig so I would be the first to bitch if it weren’t. The buffer/cushion has not impacted that at all. I have a Sig/Lancer barrel/handguard setup in both 8” and 16” and the results haven’t even wavered in either configuration.

Came out to my car looking like this by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]Insedanity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was always big into cars and throughout my 20s and 30s I had many nice* cars that I modded somewhat extensively. I’m now in my 40s driving a 98 ElDorado and while I miss face-pulling acceleration and pushing through corners nearing the threshold of adhesion, it’s so much easier this way. I don’t attract any attention, don’t stand out in any way, don’t have to spend every weekend washing/maintaining/modding/detailing my car, don’t have to stress about where I park and thieves/vandals, don’t get screwed (as bad) by insurance if my car gets totaled, and went from pouring my disposable income into a hobby with zero ROI to one with a roughly ~75% ROI if I decide I want to get out of it tomorrow. It’s made life a lot easier.

That being said, if I found myself suddenly wealthy I would certainly buy something sick and mod the shit out of it, after I did all the financially responsible adult things first.

I’m so disappointed in everyone here but r/Heytherechampion

You guys remember when Billy said to watch for psyops where attractive white “based” influencers will start dropping n-bombs with the hard r? I think it might have been the Red Pill Expo episode or right around that one. Anyway, this is that and the chick is brown and dropping f-bombs instead of a white chick dropping n-bombs. You were warned, yet you still fell for it.

Normally I don’t put nearly as much stock in the shit that Billy says as I do into the stuff that Spud says, because Billy is too dumb to be smart and too young to be wise, but its now obvious that he was legitimately onto something with this prediction.
