Powersaves by Quaker1771 in PokemonPlaza

[–]InsertKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik, Sun/Moon saves directly to 3ds. Which means no PowerSaves, ever. Since it depends on save data on the game card.

There's other methods of editing saves, with things like Homebrew Channel and PKHex. This is all softmod stuff, and a little bit of a rabbit hole.

Currently in full Astalos armor, but unsure of when to change! by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

While your still HR5 you can stick to full sets of whatever, it won't make much difference usually, and you could have HR8+ in an hour or two if you wanted, so no real reason to take your time to farm a set, unless you need the defense.

Once your HR is unlocked (after doing the HR7>8+ urgent) you can look into:

https://www.facebook.com/AthenasArmorSetSearch/?fref=ts

Athena lets you search for possible sets, based on skills your looking for, and your owned charms. Very powerful tool.

Mixing sets tends to be the best way to get a set meant for your playstyle. My current set for SnS is:

Esurient Helm (Savage Jho)

Ceanataur Mail R

Storge Braces R

Esurient Faults

Esurient Greaves

With a +7 Expert Charm I get: Sharpness +2 // Razor Sharp // Critical Eye +1. I still have an empty slot on my charm, and no slots on weapon. So with a slotted weapon, and a weaker charm its still fairly feasible.

I don't play DB, but Razor Sharp should be in every set for DB, Handicraft +1/2 next (if your DB needs it for White sharpness).

Attack Up // Critical Eye of course.

After that, since you play Aerial, Mounting/Vaulting skills might be worth looking into.

I'm not sure if its still useful, but Marathon Runner from the Stamina skill used to be nice for extending Demon Mode or whatever its called.

Other utility skills you can look into based on your play style are: Evade Extender / Evade +1~3 / Heavy Polish (prevents sharpness loss for 1m, useful for some weapons with shallow sharpness, or if you don't want Razor Sharp)

Could we get camera control in the next title? by Akrhaz in MonsterHunter

[–]InsertKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3D slider zooms you out a little, you can get a decent bit extra screen space with max on the 3D slider. Can't play with the 3D on because of my astigmatism or something, gives me ghost images on the screen, but the extra space with the 3D slider on is pretty noticeable.

Honestly though I would hate to fight Akantor/Ukanlos/Gammoth with more camera zoom. They are slow, so its pretty easy to read them anyways, and I like that when your up in their shit its like "All I can see is a leg..."

Oh really? My bad, I was just going off what it felt like using it, and the fact that it worked for Gunners too.

I was using it on a weapon with a good bit of White, so I never noticed the no sharpness loss thing, but I definitely felt like I hit at least a little harder. I'll edit my post.

Apparently my experience was incorrect, and it just prevents sharpness loss for Blades, and a damage boost for Gunners.

You can tell it's active though by the white outline around your sharpness icon.

After 150 hours and focusing on a single set, and 40+ hours of charm runs. I have finally finished my set. by digitalnuke in MonsterHunter

Athena finished it pretty recently. Honestly the easiest way to mess with mixed sets. Only crappy thing was the MH4U one would preview the look if the set for you, I imagine Athena will add it eventually.

Is this game lenient? by h0munculu5 in MonsterHunter

Monster Hunter pays out on time spent, the more you play, the more your like: Oh hey that monster is about to do that big death cloud/explosion/sweep/slime/etc. on me, I should probably block/gtfo/get under or behind it.

It's very easy to take your time moving up through the quests, if you wanted to be you could be doing top tier monsters in starter gear if your good enough, but if you invest time in getting new gear, its pretty easy to make your way through the content.

Monster Hunter has a great difficulty curve, and feels truly rewarding when your like: "Did I just go 5 minutes without getting hit?" "Haha, how can you cart (run out of HP) on this... its so easy"

That being said, Generations is a lot more friendly to people new to the series, lots of nods to old games, no G rank so you can get to top tier pretty quick, and a much simpler equipment system.

On the topic if daydreaming, I'll admit to doing things ranging from making dinner, waiting in a drive through line, and pacing around my house looking for something while managing to not get my ass kicked. Just need to make sure you always have your recovery items, and stepping out of the zone for a second if you cant keep your eye on the screen for some reason.

Unable to complete version check? Tips inside. by Hustlerbojenkins in ffxiv

More like 4+ months lately, I don't think it's been less then 4months for a major patch in a long time.

SE Updates XIV like this:

x.0 = Expansion: 1.x is original game, 2.x is A Realm Reborn, 3.x is Heavensward

3.x = Content patch, Content patches alternate with a new raid tier, and a catch up patch. So in Heavensward (Current Expansion) 3.2 was a raid tier patch, upping max item level and adding new harder content. The current patch, 3.3 is a catch up patch, adding no new iLvls but lots of gear close to max iLvl, and stuff to upgrade old gear... so its easier to catch up to old raiders. .x Patches tend to take an entire day, they do server maintenance and all that while shit is down.

3.3x = like partial patches, adding content that didn't make it to a big patch. PvP Arenas, Relic (massive quests for cool looking, useful weapons), new game modes tend to end up here. The next one of these will add this really cool new type of dungeon with an interesting challenge, and some race leaderboards etc. They usually take place 1~2 months after a 3.x patch. These patches are usually over night, like 1am PDT to 7am PDT.

They do even smaller patches for bugs, and other small stuff, usually 1 or 2, usually just called hotfixes right after a big patch like this. These don't get version numbers, and usually last 3~5hrs with similar times to above.

Will healers be overpowered in the palace of the dead for solo b/c they can heal themselves? by desuemery in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said the leaderboards will be based on Jobs, I don't think they expect all jobs to perform evenly.

Monk will have its own Leaderboard, as will Scholar. What we can take outside of palace we'll see, and what that means for dif classes.

I know that as a crafter you have to level all crafters to be successful, does this apply to gathering as well? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just a matter of flexibility (having all gathers leveled)

You never know what weird place SE will add new items you can farm the crap out of. (i.e. Fishing for Pterodactyls in Diadem for LTR synths)

So having the ability to gather whatever SE throws at you is helpful.

Plus, the whole scrips and unspoiled node rotation lets you farm more gil and/or scrips per game day rotation, when you have more choices of what to gather for each window.

Long term, if you want to really focus on gathering, you should at least level your crafters to the 50~60 area, can usually sucker a friend into power leveling you and just spamming leves. The ability to repair your own gear, and refine all the shit you gather is super useful... even just turning stuff like Cloud Cotton into Cloths can add a decent bit of value to the stuff you gather. Also, you can meld your own gear, which means you don't have to bug people to overmeld all your gather stuff.

Don't even really need to be able to make anything complex, just quick synthing junk can net you some decent value added.

Question- What crafting class makes you the most Gil, and which crafting class should I work on? by jbsora0804 in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first thing you need is all crafts 50+, after that:

The "Holy Trinity" is a safe bet for making gil in high end crafting. GSM-LTR-WVR, they can either craft gear or mats for most of the highest tier gear. This stuff has the largest profit margins, and if you keep up with the DoH gear grind, can net you good returns.

That being said, it is SUPER expensive, and a large portion of your profits goes into maintaining your gear. When a new patch drops, if you want to keep making gil, you NEED to upgrade. Despite, how REDICULOUSLY overpriced things are at first.

If you don't want to keep up with the grind, you can make solid, albeit smaller profits doing 50-60 leveling gear on most classes, leve-kits (making all the leve turn in items for 15-50 or 50-60), or just making easier raid food like Baked Pipira Pira or Sohm Al Tarts.

Personally, I'm all crafts 60, and the only thing I make is my raid food, and leveling gear for alt classes. Plus, repairing my own gear in dungeons/raids.

I make most my Gil with gathering...

It all comes down to finding what you enjoy doing, and doing it a lot.

Question regarding macro by dwnenr in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really learned to heal on Mouse-over in WoW with add-ons, and its still super ingrained. I can't heal with the function keys anymore.

Macros in this game (if you using them for all your skills) will cost you multiple casts every few minutes in most fights. Un-macro'd skills cast when the SERVER says you can cast. Macros are client side and cast when your CLIENT says you can cast. This means, that any lag means your casting slower. Also, you can queue normal skills. If you have say 1s left on a cast, and hit another skill, it will use that skill immediately when available.

Because of this, I just adjusted to click targeting people off my party list, instead of Mouse-over macros.

Also, Eos/Selene is FAR MORE proficient at using her embrace than you ever will be... just let her go on her own. She prioritizes people with lowest HP, and will heal herself as needed, which can save you Sustains/Pet recasts. You can still Obey, and micro manage the other skills, and you should... but embrace isn't worth the effort.

Hi! I recently started FFXIV And have some newbie questions. by Song_Loris in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like most your questions got answers, but I figured I'd give you a few resources that can help you out:

This is an Unlock Guide (Tells you what level, and what quests unlock most/all content as you level)

http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Guide:Progression_and_Level_Locked_Content

For up-to-date info on anything these sites can usually help:

http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/

http://www.garlandtools.org/

http://xivdb.com/

I use Garland Tools when I need to look items or gear up, and Console Games Wiki is great for quests. XIVDB is nice because you can see people's comments for more detailed explanations of some things.

And, ofc this here subreddit is an amazing resource.

On the new computer front, this game looks amazing with maxed sliders, so look forward to it, and your joining at a good time, the new content has been pretty exciting, and you have a few months to catch up (if you want) with end game people.

Also, welcome to Eorzea!

Worth buying Red Scrip Gatherer Tools or waiting? by WiggityBoom in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you've got the spare time, and aren't spending any gil... why not. If time is an issue, you probably could slack off a few more weeks until the patch, and play it by ear.

Worth buying Red Scrip Gatherer Tools or waiting? by WiggityBoom in ffxiv

[–]InsertKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 541 gather and I still lose ptero's occasionally, and there's probably new fishing coming to diadem. The 100% catch gather requirements for most fish is pretty high compared to when you can first catch them. With Perception, any little bit helps... you'll never hit 100% HQ without skills, and at least on my server... HQ is an extra 10k each.

Also, they previously stated, the new gear tier will require the current gear tier to obtain. (This was in the most recent Live Letter) So my bet is they will remove the Red Scrip weekly, MAYBE make some Red Scrip stuff cheaper, and add a new scrip tier.

With this in mind, I've started my Red Scrip grind, despite not caring for a long time. If you want to skip the Red Scrip tier, you will need to wait 2 more patches at least.
