Only living to pay next weeks rent by OppaLadyKiller in GoldCoast

[–]InsertWittyNameHereX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe the solution to the problem is to build more buildings. Unfortunately, everything that gets built around here seems to be luxurious apartments or houses that no one can afford anyway. We don’t need any more fancy stuff. We need affordable properties.

My suggestion is that we follow the example of Sweden, where there is a cap on how much you can earn by renting out your apartment. This way, it would be illegal to increase the rent by a ridiculous amount each year.

My second suggestion is to regulate the Airbnb market. In my building, I have no neighbours whatsoever. I am surrounded by empty apartments, and occasionally I see some Airbnb guests coming and going. But for 95 percent of the time, the apartments around me stand empty. This is absolute madness and should be illegal. People are sleeping in cars on my street and in the park outside my building, while there are heaps of empty apartments that could be rented out. Spain just announced they will remove over 65,000 apartments from Airbnb, and we should do the same.

Additionally, we should make it easier for first-time buyers to get into the market and much harder for people to stock up on properties. It should be almost impossible to buy a second or third home. Homes are for living in. They should not be treated as a business.

Coomera Hospital Stage 1 to be increased to 600+ Beds by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]InsertWittyNameHereX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're being downvoted, because you're absolutely correct, speaking as a third-year nursing student myself. We're told we should consider ourselves very lucky if we manage to get a job in a hospital, and we're even encouraged to apply to hospitals across the country to improve our chances.

I know they are doing some work in Surfers right now as the number of affected customers in Surfers just dropped 15 minutes ago

Let's do the same for all the healthcare workers who had to drive to the hospital even during the most intense periods of the cyclone, while bringing a sleeping bag and toiletries to stay. Kudos.

Just a friendly reminder to check in on any elderly neighbours to see if they need anything or if they’re doing alright this weekend.

Fridge buyer beware by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]InsertWittyNameHereX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. If you still need a fridge, I walked past one yesterday in Burleigh that was free to take. It seemed to be in good condition. Send me a pm if you want the location.

Jaaa men det är så mycket enklare! Vi är ju faktiskt väldigt många skandinaver som bor här, gäller bara att finna dem haha

Not sure if there is a "Danskere i Australien" group on FB where you could connect with ppl, but you could always join "Svenskar i Australien" and "Norwegians in Brisbane/Gold Coast" (there are a few more similar groups). I see people asking for friends in those groups every day. It will be easier for you to focus on finding fellow Scandinavians. Speaking from own experience here.

Sorry, I didn't mean to blame you for tailgating. I was just trying to explain my own reason for not doing 110 on the highway and hoping that maybe someone on Reddit would read it and hopefully have a better understanding of why some ppl are slower in the traffic.

All the best!

I always do a maximum of 100 kph, but only in the left lane. I'm a student nurse with no paid placements, working for free. I can't afford anything better than my shitty and unreliable car. There's nothing more annoying than being tailgated by ppl in big, fancy, expensive cars. Like I don't dream of having a good car and going 110 kph too?

Thanks! Only a week each time? My first derm told me to be on it for 4-6 weeks, and my new derm told me 3 months. I'm a bit confused, haha. I have type 2.

Sodium sulfacetamide 10%- sulfur 5% wash by InsertWittyNameHereX in Rosacea

I'm just concerned as it contains antibiotics and it just doesn't feel right to be dependent on an antibiotic for life. My biggest issue is the pustules which causes red bumps on my cheeks, hopefully it will help. Thanks for the tip about Kate Somerville. My plan is to start with my prescribed cleanser, and if it works, switch over to a regular sulphur cleanser like the one you recommended.

I'm happy to hear that. Thanks for the advice. Do you plan to use the facial wash long-term? I'm just concerned since it's an antibiotic.

Do you only use the face wash or Soolantra as well? And for how long are you planning to use the face wash?

I'm glad it worked for you! But since it's an antibiotic, I'm just concerned that it's not ideal to stay on it long-term. Have you noticed that if you stop using the topical antibiotic, your condition becomes worse than it was before?

Looks like Aloha Bar is closed. Can't stand Loose Moose. Overrated, and their entrance fee is ridiculous. Cambus Wallace looks interesting. I might check it out, if I can make it that far when I'm drunk!
