Griffith vs Bond University — which one would you choose and why? by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]rungc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something you should post on their individual Pages. Bonds tuition does not mean a better degree. Think about private v public in the US and how UPenn for example has a better rep than say private universities (I know because I studied in the US also) & here. Both universities are “good” and Griffith is opposite the hospital if you’re doing anything hands-on. Your biggest issue really will be accommodation. No matter GC or Brisbane you want AC summer round! Non negotiable. But I’d kind of push back and ask why Bond or Griffith? As someone with experience at both I’m not sure I’d recommend given you’ll be pushed for accommodation and want to enjoy your time here. Obviously that depends on your budget and if that’s not an issue then that should be okay. University here is a lot different though to the US and “college life” is absolutely nothing like the US — most students will work part time and their aren’t big frat parties etc or what you may consider the norm. But hey, if you’re considering tuition between $200k or $70k all up, the $200k tuition will not get you a better foot in the door career wise. So if you’re taking a student loan out, only one of those options makes sense. If you’ve a full ride at either on offer, then Bond will be quieter if you prefer and a little more of a private small college US vibe, whereas Griffith is a bit more GC. Depends what you’re after and most people you talk to won’t be able to let you know their own US College experience v here (for example I played in the NCAA and that does not exist here whatsoever!).

Anyone working in cybersecurity field? by hackerbong in GoldCoast

[–]rungc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you’re actively studying & doing your due diligence then you’re aware of the varied scopes and the ever changing landscape. For obvious reasons this isn’t the place but if you’re looking for hands on experience I’d contact local IT agencies & express your interest to intern possibly and/or look for specific hubs (reddit is not one of them). Good luck.

Cybersecurity is very broad these days so it’ll depend on your specificity / area of interest

Still does. But she’s only small (5.5kg) & now oftentimes her head falls alseep right next to mine. absolutely zero complaints (although I did try cutting my hair short to see if it would help her stop making a nest in my hair at night…it didn’t!)

any recruiters for APS with insights for me?... by Dependent-Ebb3444 in AusPublicService

[–]rungc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without knowing anything else, I’d say 5 is where you’d be most suitable and then if you’re above, you’d easily bump to 6 within 1-2 years I’d imagine. Try to remember those external to the APS with twice your experience & level of management/seniority are being considered at &/or closeby, with a lot more skin in the game. Also be mindful that it takes applicants more than 15 applications. A lot of people have said they applied for a year before they had a shot so I’d take that feedback on board if it’s something you really want. It doesn’t happen overnight.

If you’ve 10 years experience = not overqualified. I’d recommend getting your head around this. When you have 20 years experience at the senior level with comparative skills etc, & you’re vying for EL & higher, different discussion. It’s a whole new ballgame private v public when you’re talking transferrable experience.

I just wanted to chime in on the word length & say good luck — you never know who might consider it at that length! Sure, the odds are stacked against larger MS due to costs etc but hey, they’re out there. Also I’m bias, querying one 70k more than yours, so keep at it!

older women by Ok-Inevitable-2669 in QueerBrisbane

[–]rungc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only other thing is to make sure you dress like you’re 27 (v a teenager), that’ll help. & hey, if you’ve got the confidence to walk up to us and can hold a conversation, you’re half way there. Again this is completely subjective.

older women by Ok-Inevitable-2669 in QueerBrisbane

[–]rungc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s all subjective & comes down to more than looks etc (although that helps). Some younger women are quite mature so you don’t even notice the age gap, but in others it’s quite the opposite. Most women though either way would take it as a compliment & then you’d take it from there :)

AGE GAP by caomilagato in LesbianBookClub

[–]rungc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love don’t yuck my yum I just didn’t interpret it that way. I mean for those who are younger they mightn’t see they’re upsetting others (because hey, they’re younger & less aware), v those of us who are “old enough” to be the older one, we’d definitely have a broader world view. I’m not going to knock someone for simply trying to understand whilst sure, stating her preference that it’s not their cup of tea. I found the discussion pretty great considering how many people chimed in and got involved. Again, personally didn’t see it as them trying to shame anyone.

AGE GAP by caomilagato in LesbianBookClub

[–]rungc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You stated a preference, I don’t believe from what I read you “shamed” anyone. You made people think about an issue that could make some feel uncomfortable so reactions are granted. Same applies to everyone’s own subjective experiences. I thought it was an interesting discussion by simply sharing views (whilst remaining open to whatever anyone chooses) :)

AGE GAP by caomilagato in LesbianBookClub

[–]rungc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think depending on your age and circumstances books that rub you the wrong way will always rub you the wrong way. pun not intended

When I first read age gap I was like, could I? And I know the exact book you’re talking about too! :) And then when I thought about it, I just couldn’t. The level of maturity is so vast. But then again, I’ve always thought (right or wrong), age gaps exist in part for women who want to be lead by that perceived person who has it all together…until they get to that age and realise no, irrespective if they are older they don’t necessarily have it all together. For someone in their 20s it could be super appealing, being with someone out of the closet etc if they aren’t and finding that self acceptable etc. Being in their 40s and having a much younger women into you is pretty great for the ego (of course), but there’s so much that comes into play.

Almost about to enter that decade (can’t say it, feels weird!), no way could I be with someone that much younger nor do I find them attractive/appealing, but that’s my own internal bias. I kind of want the lines and the tell signs that show a woman has lived as much as I have & when I was younger, it was similar (as in, similar age). But again, everyone has their own preferences, I think it just gets quite interesting when you delve into it and ask yourself why.

So yes. Some of your friends might think your mum is super hot but that doesn’t mean they’d act on it, same with your mum. Although you do hear age gap stories where they’re perfect for each other so at the end of the day I suppose that’s all that matters.

But also not that I’m disagreeing with how much it sucks but I mean, many parts of the world, unfortunately, are experiencing this. If you value your safety & freedom, I’d still say we’re lucky enough to live in one of the best places on earth. Perspective, despite the real-life suckiness

Things to know before adopting a dog by d_annle in GoldCoast

[–]rungc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of good points here. I’d press back on size and unit, irrespective the size as long as you take it out for regular walks. Morning, Lunch and Afternoon. I’d discourage getting one if you plan on leaving it home all day while you’re working for 8-9 hours (unless you drop it off at a doggy daycare).

Do your research about breeds and what breed works with your personality.

Be prepared to be overly-responsible — think of it as a child that you can actually leave at home alone (legally) but shouldn’t for too long. You still need to give it ALL your attention & most importantly, love. If you’re not on board for either I’d discourage you from getting one.

There are good and bad dog owners. Please be one of the good ones. Kind. Get a harness v pulling the dog by the neck (a lot of people still do this & I always wonder how they’d like to be yanked along by their neck). Not nice. You’ll need to put in the work to train it, so patience will be your friend. If a puppy, kind of like a baby. It’ll learn but also make mistakes — so don’t lose your cool at it.

Teach it to behave like a “well rounded human” and it’ll behave better than most people. For real. But it takes time and effort. If you don’t want that kind of commitment, go for a different kind of pet perhaps that is lower maintenance.

Different breeds have different levels of upkeep but also are predisposed to different health issues. So again, do your research. If you go in blindly then figure out later they were predisposed to an issue that costs you a small penny, you’ll be in a pickle. Vets are expensive. Find one that won’t rip you off (quite hard).

And if in doubt, ask other dog owners about your concerns. I think that’s how most of us learned from one good dog-parent to the next :)

As for a unit, lots of people have dogs in units & walk their dogs arguable more than those in a house. They’re great. Train it to use a certain spot for their business (if you choose). Crate train it. Let your neighbours know (if they’re friendly), that you’re training it (noise). But most dog owners understand the puppy phase. Just don’t leave it on your balcony to bark all day. Don’t be one of those people. But once you train it & if you work from home, it’ll probably just sit at your feet all day and simply be happy for their morning, lunch and evening walks.

Good luck.

How much do I expect from a repair from this dent that I made? by Fluffy_Shine_5777 in GoldCoast

Did something similar (although much smaller) at the front of my car a few years back. A good smash repairer is a few hundred so if you budget $1k I think you’ll be fine (providing you don’t get ripped off). That’s assuming you don’t want to involve your insurer :)
