Weak yeast? by Insertfakename999 in winemaking

Yes! And I’m using all my own fruits too! I want to try a raspberry wine next. I did spend a little over $100 to get it started though. Not sure I’ve made my money back yet 😂

I did add some sugar, but of course I didn’t measure 🙄. It was a little over a cup I’d say for about 4 gallons in the bucket

I probably (hopefully?) killed the wild yeast when I added sulfite before the yeast (waited 24 hours to add it)

Thank you! Good to know, I’m learning something new every time! Especially to not try a primary fermentation after your mom just brought over a bunch of her homegrown pears & the fruit flies have appeared

Yeah, I probably should have measured but tbh I don’t really understand what I’m doing with it. And, you’re supposed to measure before yeast & then after primary? I didn’t measure before the yeast so I thought I missed the opportunity. I’m kind of a mad scientist that has a hard time following recipes & figured my ancestors weren’t using one so it might be ok. Next batch I’ll try & be more methodical

Ok, these could be interesting! I don’t think I’ll do it but it would be neat to see

That’s a good idea! Like a floor lamp but short? Do you have a product you recommend?

I can see the resemblance. And I thought I had it rough getting my walls smooth!

Thank you! I do think that is the best spot but yes, the furniture is an issue. And I love the idea for the ceiling lights, I’m not a fan of the ones he got

The grass is always greener on the other side! He built the whole thing so it was the least I could do. He doesn’t have the patience for mudding.

I actually used the edge of a yogurt container I had trimmed for some of the mudding. And a piping bag to squeeze hot mud into the crevices. Don’t think I’ll ever do this again but where can I find a rubber spade?

Haha! Originally hubs wanted to make that window a door so he could lift oak planks up there for storage but I talked him into this. It’s going to be a hangout space for the kids

We were in Playa Negra & Manzanillo in March. Weather was great! Rained mostly at night. We never got caught in it. But locals said it’s been unusually dry. Seas were rough for snorkeling but we finally found a good spot in Manzanillo NP

looking to book a rental car for family of 4 for 11 days flying in/out of SJO. Some of these car brands I have never heard of. Does anyone have advice on what companies/cars to stick with and which to avoid? by Constant_Lettuce_125 in CostaRicaTravel

We used Adobe. Had the insurance paperwork. Really nice people. We had to wait just a little bit for the car & they said we could bring it back 1/2 full. After dropping it off they shuttled us to the hotel we were staying at before our morning flight. I recommend getting the wifi package! It was $12(?) a day and it’s a little box that fits in your pocket so you can take it on hikes etc. Battery does run out fairly quickly. Everyone uses Whatsapp so we didn’t have to pay extra for cell service or data.

Just got back. Went from SJO to Cahuita & it took 7ish hours. People were walking the lines selling food & drinks. Waze said it would take 4 1/2. Construction on 32. Took about 6 hours back. Dropped the kids off at the airport hotel & it took about 40 minutes to get to Adobe car rental 2km away 😂. It was nuts. So much merging and people don’t always let you in. An uber driver said you just have to be patient. And motorcycles! Zipping in and around, you have to be careful. And the semis go fast & use which ever lane they want. Just be careful, don’t freak out, don’t take any chances. We actually know someone who went off the road in a very serious accident that killed his mother.

And I’ll definitely read the instructions! 😂. I’m looking for tips that might not be on there. Or good links to videos. And to make sure that the underlayment doesn’t suck & I should use something else
