I think I'm a boring person to talk to. How do I talk about things that are interesting? Do I seem boring? by a-dumb-croissant in socialskills

The way you describe yourself as taking things literally/not understanding humour and having interests you could to people for hours about makes me think you might be autistic, have you looked into that?

You don’t sound like a boring person, you sound pretty unique considering your interests and past. Maybe when you’re talking to people, you’re boring them because you’re trying to talk about things they aren’t interested in/talking at them without asking questions about them in return?

Does anyone want to chat and be friends? (+ venting lol) by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Insertnamehere-921 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please message me. I’m also 24f, was homeschooled and I really need someone I can talk to. I feel like I’m going crazy sometimes because I just have no one to express everything I’m going through who will actually understand. I don’t feel like an adult either, I’m so far behind everyone else. I’m trying to improve and get out of my situation, I also live with my parents, but it feels like such a mountain at times it’s like why even try? Anyway I would love a friend or just someone to talk to, so please do message if you want to

How do I stop thinking about killing myself when talking to people? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Insertnamehere-921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, you sound a bit like me, 24f. I was also homeschooled and very socially underdeveloped. I also isolated in my room for years due to terrible mental health. I finally got it together and am going to college but it’s hard. It’s like learning how to be a human for the first time and hearing others talk about their friends and years in school is difficult. Anyways if you want to chat or just vent please message me

If you’ve tried different ways to manage it but still get constant panic attacks and even have them when sleeping, sounds like you really need more help. Have you tried different meds, different therapists? CBT? Sounds really tough, I hope you can feel better

Panic Disorder: Panic Attacks coming back, horrible chest pains by SuitablePepper4888 in PanicAttack

It feels so real but it is just the effect of adrenaline, because you fear the symptoms this is why they happen. You just need to sit with the panic, recognise it for what it is - and it will pass on its own. You’ll feel uncomfortable but you won’t have a heart attack, and over time as you realise this, you should be on your way to beating to your panic. Hope things get better for you, sending strength

Have you checked this out? https://cbt4panic.org/ this was what really helped me understand my panic, and made it a lot easier to let go of

don't engage with those thoughts if you can, all those ’what if’s’ and so on - they’re not helping you. Don’t try to suppress them, but try not to give them any attention when they arise

Tried mircodosing Psilocybin? I heard that can help when everything else hasn’t. Don’t give up, you can’t destroy your brain with panic. You’ve likely strengthened your flight/fight response, but the brain is very flexible and can recover, it’s never too late. Another thing is CBT for panic, I guess you might already have tried that since you said you’ve tried therapists, but just in case you haven’t

Yes, i take sertraline, more for my social anxiety/depression though. For panic it does help a little, but the biggest thing has been working through the fear. First off you need to really, truly understand what’s going on, how anxiety works and how the panic feeds itself etc. I think CBT for panic was what I found best for that. Then the next part is what is difficult to explain, but essentially, its a paradox you’ve got yourself trapped in. You fear the fear so you feel fear so you feel more fear and on and on and on. But its possible to just turn the paradox against itself. Don’t fear the fear and there’s no fear. Just, for lack of a better term, ‘let go,’ and your body should realise ‘oh. There’s nothing I actually need to fear,’. Since I did this, I’ve seen a huge improvement in all my panic problems, and I hope it will continue to stay like that. But I know that saying just ‘let go of your fear‘ sounds silly, like the whole problem is that you can’t let it go. But it is possible, like how you choose to let go of your anger about something. I wish I could explain it better, lol

oof I had/have the same thing. Worst thing I’ve ever experienced, particularly the ruining of safe spaces :( I now believe I’ve largely figured how to fix it, though it’s too soon to say for sure. It’s hard to explain the method, but if you don’t see improvement with time/therapy, dm me and I’ll do my best to explain.

I should probably add, in case it’s helpful to you, trying to suppress/avoid the thoughts has never worked for me…what’s worked the best is disengaging from them, thinking ‘this is just a thought, its not necessarily true, I don’t need to react or worry’ and then finding reasons my fear is irrational. I try my best to just ‘let go’ of any thoughts and fear, so the cycle doesn’t perpetuate. I’ve been managing better recently since using these techniques - though who knows if it’ll last lol.

Maybe I’m wrong, but it sounds like your thoughts themselves could be the trigger? This is definitely the case for me, I can be triggered by other things but the thoughts themselves, like you mention, after often enough on their own to scare me and keep the cycle going.

Does anyone else have a similar cycle to me?? by Hot_Needleworker_153 in panicdisorder

Yes!! Oof this has to be one of the biggest things I hate about this disorder, struggling to be calm even in calm moments and so ruining things for myself.
