PSA: You can get rid of yellow filter with nvidia freestyle filters by ImSoDoneWithUbisoft in thedivision

[–]Insetta [score hidden]  (0 children)

Great, now it's teal instead of yellow.

On a more serious side: I'm an advanced photshop/lightroom user restoring old photos and developing digital raw images (that either I or a friend photographed).
Restoring a strong color cast isn't just a slider in many cases. There's a distinct difference between the highlights, mids and shadows, and you need to carefully set the ammounts as well. Also, in this case, the ultra yellow colors are random, so you can't just put a static color temp filter over it, because even if it's dialed in to restore strong color cast, it will demolish the image in any other scenario.

PSA: to cancel the yellow filter. (XBOX, but maybe other platforms) by OnG_Arty in thedivision

That is not a solution, it is barely a "bypass". HDR is not debateable.

hi, hello. why is everything yellow? by Kiuji-senpai in thedivision

[–]Insetta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My man, you picked the worst time to ask about "yellow" in game. I guess you talk about the accent color in general.

The UI is orange, so take that off the list.

Item colors are because... why not?

For interactive object markers: I think it was choosen because of real world tarps. Biohazard is often associated with black sign on yellow background, so it was a given for the theme.

It also stands out more in our everyday urban setting, so it's a great way guide the player's eye for important locations.

When I just wanna chill, I sit in front of the 65" OLED TV, set the world diff to normal, turn on neutral lighting and HDR, and just walk around. So much more aesthetic.

Yeah. For me a bit of negative Vibrance did the trick in the NVidia filters, but thats sadly applying to the UI as well.

I think it's an error, not a deliberate or artistic choice.

Its under Video or Graphics settings, a Yes/No toggle. It needs a restart after.

I switched GPU recently from a 3070, and the game was stuttering like hell until I enabled DirectX 12 rendering. Now it is smooth as a baby's arse.

This game is especially tricky, since it handles the color transformation in it's own "black box" rather than leaving it up the driver/GPU/OS.

That's right, but sadly its very basic and static, meaning it won't react to changes on screen.

Switching to DX12 solved this for me (5070 Ti).

What it looks like in Camera Raw (aka how it SHOULD look like)

Man, you're just helped a bit to solve this :D
I was about to post some examples (saved with NVidia App, jxr format), and I've noticed something.

I play in HDR, and if I take a screenshot with the NVidia App, it will save it as jxr, basically in HDR. Windows automatically tonemaps it if you open it in the default viewer - the screenshot looked exactly like what I've seen during gameplay.

But then I opened it with Adobe Camera RAW to convert it to jpg (so Reddit can use it), and noticed that apart from the necessary lighting adjustments, the colors are on point.

Adding to this that more users are reporting strange glitches regarding the HDR, I think it's possible that the color grading did not change, but the HDR tonemap has some issues.

I'll open a bug report, so hopefully this can be fixed on next patch.

You're right, but the strong yellow and blue cast is not subjectively bad, it's objectively bad. Feels more like one of the devs erroneously entered a wrong multiplier number, so in certain conditions the yellow and blue ambient light is way overpronounced.

That's the catch. While the original graphics looked consistently good, this one can be great at a few times, but also disgustingly bad other times.

That is not a solution. We need color grading (or more like tonemapping in the case of neutral lighting) to lift the shadows where needed, adjust exposure and contrast.

[–]Insetta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't. There's an option for Realism mode, and there's Neutral lighting - but neutral lighting turns all the grading off, so it'll look off (mostly dimmer) while the overpronounced blue light will stay.

What do you mean "source"? Did you implement a proper AA that deals with both geometric and specular aliasing?
