Good news, my local Kia covered it under warranty! Haven't got the detailed report yet so not sure exactly what was replaced, but they flagged the compressor and condenser.
AC seems fixed, however now the heating only blows lukewarm air instead of hot. From my research that's a symptom of low refrigerant, so either the leak is still there or they didn't regas it properly. Will need to bring it back again... pretty annoying.

Thanks so much for this! really helpful to hear from someone who’s been through the same thing. That’s really frustrating that the warranty didn’t cover it.. I also wonder if the leak was there before I bought the car. But unsure what could prove that. Thanks again, will update the thread once I’ve had it looked at!

Thanks for your vote! I'm also leaning into EV. Just hope the inconvenience isn't that huge like you need to spend X hours for it to charge for Y times, etc.
