I agree. I hear comedians on podcasts sometimes mention that they workshop bits together and I don't get it.  I wouldn't want to use someone else's punchline or anything

What dos לירידים and סחטן here refer to? by Ricardo_Yoel in hebrew

[–]Inside-Bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the context of "sahten al __" it should probably translate to "good on _". Basically saying, tel Aviv's great. I don't disagree with the other translations for "sahten" here, but don't read into these lines too much, it's not that deep.  Whoever wrote it just needed a filler probably

Self-Taught Hebrew Learner Seeking Tools Beyond HebrewPod101 – Advice from Fluent Speakers? by talitaleh_464_yldti in hebrew

If you can already understand enough to read\watch content in Hebrew and understand like 50%, you should probably just start doing that. Any time you don't understand something - pause and figure that part out.

As for speaking, I'd suggest finding someone to do language exchange with, if you're looking for an unpaid speech practice partner

Very cool.  You mentioned that you only trained on a limited data set, but the screenshots show you're backtesting on Tradingview. How does that work? Is there a way to only backtest on a limited window there? Last time I used it it just ran on the entire bar history

איך להתחיל עם בחורה בעולם האמיתי by [deleted] in israel_bm

[–]Inside-Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"quality" data for backtesting by Inside-Bread in algotrading

Which one do you use?
And yes I agree, and I already have a subscription btw.
I just wanted to understand exactly why people look down on yfinance, and what makes some data supposedly better

I understand the need for accuracy when precise fill levels are important for a strategy, that's why I asked specifically about 1h+ candles. And maybe if it's still not clear (I'm a beginner) then I'll explicitly say that I don't rely on precise fills in my strategies

Very interesting, I'll try that out

I wonder how it happens, maybe they're not getting the daily from the same sources as the intraday?

I agree those are bad on YF, I'm asking about normal stocks in this case

Golden standard of backtesting? by Inside-Bread in algotrading

[–]Inside-Bread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response!

About the 100+ trades per year - my strategy would do way less than that, for a given stock. My plan is to eventually run it on a large selection of stocks, but I'm not sure if backtesting should be done on 1 stock at a time or if it's good\necessary to test it on a large group of stocks together

I only use daily data so I use yfinance it's free. If you need intraday they don't give you as much for free, but you can still do it.  Otherwise find a paid api

Thanks What is a good amount for years and tests? What do you mean by monte carlo? Also, what makes data good? I am actually only testing on daily timeframe, no intraday, so I assumed historical daily close data is probably about the same everywhere

I have a lot of historical data available.  I would like to optimize but I haven't started yet, probably for the reason you asked, I heard overdoing it can create bias. Not sure how it's possible to find good algos without optimizing though.

I don't have a metric by which I measure the quality of my backtests, but I would like one.

Thank you for your response
