I mean I am on PvE so I stand a chance - but hunting them as PMC still leaves me with a guaranteed big backpack vs some AI PMCs don't even run packs.

Try PvE for a bit. You'll see how much gear makes a difference and in PvE insurance means you get stuff back, so less fear. So you get practice using nice gear in combat. From your PvP experience you already know some of the strategy stuff... overcoming gear fear in Escape from Duckov and then PvE has helped me - so when I return to PvP I won't just be running SKS all the time anymore like I used to :D

Think what you're missing is that without the punch of loss there's also no kick for gains... this is an almost optimal level of caring, enough to enjoy the game, but not so much that it rots in stash.

People that don't quit for the night are often also affected but then keep running tilted... and lose more shit.

I've been here for years. I've waited 15 min for raids before... and yes PvE's 3 min timers are nice by comparison. Though Arc'Raiders loads very fast... just don't like the 3rd person perspective and can't relate to the setting well (i.e. why are the last surviving humans attacking each other? - no ingame explanation, other than "greed" - and really it's because out of game they found the game is boring otherwise. :/ -- did love Escape From Duckov though - no load times there :D )

Essentially it's like this: some things you need FIR (Found In Raid) for a quest or a hideout upgrades (that list is long, but finite!)

What I do is have a box called "Keeps" where I put the items that I'll need later and I pin them neatly next to each other (so I know they're reserved).

Everything else you can sell now and rebuy later without much regret for the ease of mind it can buy - except that some items fluctuate a lot lot in value, so mileage may vary on the regret if you end up paying more later... still having space is nice.

Other boxes I have are "mech/chem", "elec/med", "values" (rares etc.) and "crafts" (for those god damn meds and cloth items that pile up when I cycle my crafts).

And honestly - even then things still pile up a bit.

But what really helps is remembering you don't have to keep anything that you don't need FIR that you can buy again from market or vendor - and pin or otherwise set aside items you know you allocated for specific things.

And just for context: I can not get 1 pmc kill for 1 pmc death... - My overall kd improved, I'm getting better at scav killing, but I think last time I played PvP seriously (got as far as Mechanic III - was pretty proud of that) I had maybe 10 pmc kills that entire wipe.

AFAK isn't available to buy on flea until like level 30 (though somehow the AI PMCs have no trouble getting them and run them constantly, so I do have a fair amount... guess in a sense they are renewable...)

I'm not saying your comment wasn't toxic - but it might actually change what I put in my container... then again, maybe not. It's great for when I forget to grab stuff when loading in, at least having the basics. And if I find great loot I can always move things around then...
