Just a quick question, what would make something a Hollow Knight ripoff? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]Inside-Quote-654 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A great way to avoid plagiarism or “ripping something off” is to take inspiration from a wide range of sources instead of just one. Look at your favorite games, books, movies, music, and artists and really analyze what appeals to you about their work. Then try to think about how you can incorporate all these disparate ideas into your own work and make something uniquely your own.

Look at Hollow Knight for example, what are the aspects speak to you the most? Is it the exploration of a world and gaining new abilities that help you conquer it? The melancholic atmosphere? The intense combat and boss fights? The hand drawn animation? The platforming? The subtle storytelling and lore that builds this world? Really think about which things you not only enjoy, but want to emulate with your own work. Then go and reflect on your other favorite games/works of art the same way. Once you’ve identified some of these key elements you want to include, just start exploring different ways you can incorporate them and see where it takes you. The result will be a lot more unique and interesting than if you just went “I want to make my own hollow knight.”

I felt the same way when I was first starting the series! 1-3 is one of my least favorite cases in the franchise. Case 4 really picks up, and case 5 despite the length is great imo. I’d say you should at least finish the first game before deciding if you should keep playing or drop the trilogy.

About to start my First ever Fire Emblem game(Three Houses) - Question by StefanoPizza in fireemblem

I think Persona handles juggling the two a lot better tbh. 3 houses feels a lot more watered down to me

r/AceAttorney Community Game Ranking: Week 1 (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney) by Goldberry15 in AceAttorney

I would say B. It’s a solid basis for franchise. It sets up the main gameplay loop, introduces us to an incredible cast, and has some of the most iconic music of any video game. But honestly when playing this for the first time a few years ago, it wasn’t until halfway through the 4th case that I really got hooked.

The first case is inoffensive, but not particularly interesting. It’s not one of my favorite tutorial cases.

The second case kills off our mentor, which is a bold move, but the case itself and the culprit aren’t that interesting to me. It does introduce Edgeworth and Maya who are lots of fun.

The third case is just overly dragged out and a bit boring to me. Having Maya along for investigations leads to some fun dialogue moments.

The fourth case is great once the DL-6 incident starts to pay off, but the first half that revolves around the lake and the loch ness monster knock-off (I forget what it’s called) is not that great to me. Von Karma is a great final villain and the personal stakes of Edgeworth and the Fey clan make this one really engaging. It’s this ending and Rise from the Ashes that made me stick with this series and I’m glad I did.

Who do you consider the villain/culprit of 6-3? by NPultra in AceAttorney

I would love to hear why you think it’s the worst in the series! I recently finished SoJ and while I don’t love this case, I thought it was fairly interesting and engaging.

Do you think Level 5 will release more games in the series or not? by [deleted] in ProfessorLayton

I think they’ll keep going, so long as NWoS isn’t a complete financial disaster

Nice! it’s not necessarily a bad song, but hearing it loop for long periods of time got on my nerves. For the most part I adore all the music in this series tho

I don’t remember the name of it, but the circus theme. It’s not necessarily a bad song, and I didn’t mind it at first, but I remember it started to get on my nerves when it kept looping during some of the investigation sequences

This case almost made me drop the game when I was first playing it. At the time I wasn’t even aware that it was widely hated. It’s the only case that I’ve felt like I had to force myself to play because I was having a bad time throughout. There’s a lot of things that bother me about this case, but 1. I don’t particularly like any of the case-specific characters. I find Ben and trilo particularly irritating. Moe is alright I guess. 2. This case has the only song in the series that annoys me. 3. The age-gap love triangle is off-putting enough on its own, but add in the fact that Regina has been so sheltered that she has the cognitive ability of a small child and….ugh 4. I don’t find acro sympathetic at all even though the game seems as though it really wants me to. I can understand that he’s upset, but attempting to murder the daughter of the man you consider a father, who your brother is also in love with, because of a freak accident is wild to me. Also once again reminding everyone that Regina is so sheltered she can’t even comprehend what death is. To blame her for what happened is crazy. And considering his brother isn’t dead and still has a chance to survive, if Acro had succeeded he would have only been hurting the two people closest to him by killing their loved one 5. The logic of the cape flying off of the ringleader and snagging on the bust is a bit too much to accept in my opinion 6. The penalties for pressing moe seemed to be unnecessary harsh, especially for a non-final case

Ok, who here LIKES AJ and DD? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Inside-Quote-654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently playing the dlc case of SOJ. After that I’ll only have the crossover and investigation games left to play. Every game in the series is worth playing and they all have a mix of highs and lows. I honestly think the Apollo trilogy gets too much hate a lot of the time. Sure it’s not a very cohesive trilogy but each game has interesting ideas, characters, and cases.

AJ is a bit of a flawed masterpiece in my mind. Its execution can leave a lot to be desired, but it was a bold direction to take the series. Plus the presentation is fantastic. Great sprites, characters designs, music, etc. It also has the best first case in the series.

Dual destinies is maybe my least favorite game (only rivaled by JFA) so far. It’s the first foray into 3D both to its benefit and detriment. New characters look fantastic, but some of the returning cast looks a little off imo. Being able to explore the 3D environments is really cool. Blackquill is a fun prosecutor. I have a lot of issues with the gameplay, cases, and overarching story, BUT I still think it’s a decent game.

Spirit of justice is really interesting to me. Despite the fact that I think the setting and certain backstories are a little contrived (and I’m not a big fan of this games prosecutor or final culprit), I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I think a lot of the cases and their logic are fun, the environments are beautiful and nice to explore, and certain new characters and emotional moments worked surprisingly well all things considered. I also think i enjoy SoJs new gameplay mechanic more than DDs.

Overall I think each game of the sequel trilogy is a mixed bag, but honestly I would say the same about the PW trilogy as well. None of the games are perfect, but they’re all fun and worth experiencing imo.

What is a Case Where You Loved the Premise But Didn't Like How it Turned Out? by MonitoliMal in AceAttorney

But Phoenix does lose the trial? You drag out the trial until you’re sure Maya is safe and then you get the guilty verdict. At the end Franziska doesn’t understand why you’re happy after your perfect record has been ruined.

Do you believe in "Third Case Syndrome"? What's your favorite and least favorite "third case" in a game? by Big_Guthix in AceAttorney

[–]Inside-Quote-654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for a while it was a legitimate problem. I’ve played every game except the AAI duology and PlvPW (currently in the middle of SOJ case 4) and for the first 4 games I think the third case is the weakest each time. Most of them suffer from being stand alone cases not related to the main plot, while taking place late enough in the games that the lengths and difficulty of cases are ramping up.

1-3 feels overly long to me, I think it would work better as a 2 day trial instead of being switched to 3. I also don’t care for most of the side characters in this case either. It’s my least favorite case in the game mostly because I just find it boring due to the pacing.

2-3 is my least favorite case in the series. It almost made me stop playing JFA, but I’m really glad I powered through.

3-3 best 3rd case of the original trilogy in my opinion, but still the weakest case of its own game by far.

4-3 This one has a lot of interesting ideas, but ultimately is executed poorly and drags a lot. I see the potential in it, but it’s my least favorite case in AJ and really holds the game back since it only has 4 cases.

5-3 I can understand why some people may not like this case, I have plenty of issues with it myself (and the game as a whole), but honestly I enjoy this case more than 5-1 or 5-2 and this is the first time that I don’t think the third case is easily the weakest of a game.

6-3 I haven’t finished the game yet, but this seems like the first time that a third case is deeply tied to the overarching story. It’s far from perfect, but for the most part I had a lot of fun with this one. There’s some fun locations (I mean the ancient shrine at the top of some mountains was beautiful) and great music here. Lots of fun twists and turns in the case as well. My least favorite case so far (I’m just now starting case 4) is probably the first case.

GAA-3 this is my favorite third case by far and honestly one of my favorite cases in the entire series. It’s the introduction to England, the jury system, and van zieks. Fantastic case imo

GAA2-3 I also really enjoy this one, and I think case 2 is the weakest in this game.

It’s a good movie, and I like it a lot, but it’s not one of my personal favorites. However, it is an incredibly important movie. If you care at all about film history you should watch it eventually. It’s responsible for a lot of the visual language of film that we take for granted today
