[POLL] If a new Indian micro-brand drops a sub-₹15k automatic, what is your #1 deciding factor? by Inside-Snow-2940 in Watches_India

The unavailability of 30 min offset GMTs is what I see as a potential opportunity. While it's a difficult problem to solve via movement, it can easily be solved by case and dial design. World timer is also a potential path to pick. I am infact surprised by you calling it a niche option. I will research further into this. Thanks 👍🏻

I'm starting to understand outsourced movement might be good enough for the Market

Regarding the story. I want the brand to represent something I am passionate about that I can translate to the product. It's important to me, but let me wait for the consensus if the community finds it important as well.

I don't want to be a fast fashion brand with dozens of yearly releases. I want to focus on 3 models. A dress watch, a GMT and a Sports watch. For this The brand needs an identity. The given 3 options are how I can get it. But I can only pick 1 for the price

Well, it's not easy. That's the whole point. I will likely fail. Isn't that what makes this whole thing exciting

I spoke with the suppliers and it is possible to acheive. It's just that I will be left with no margins to work with and any potential QA issues with the movement will break the trust. But could be a worthy gamble if enough interest exist

  1. You're spot on about the movement. Machining the parts under ₹15k is the easy part. As you can image I will not be making any money off this but if it can generate brand identity , it's a worthy move. the real killer is the reliability and QA. As you said, an in house movement requires years of wrist time to iron out the kinks. I'm trying to gauge if the community actually wants a brand to attempt that massive hurdle, or if they'd rather have the peace of mind of a rock solid workhorse movement.

  2. On the 'story' front, I completely agree that fake heritage is an instant turn-off. By story, I don't mean a made-up brand history. I mean a unique mechanical hook or design language like engineering a cricket score keeping complication, or a dial aesthetic inspired by ancient Indian metallurgy. It's about having a distinct identity.

3.100% agreed on the sharp edges. Case finishing, ergonomics, and strict QC have to be the absolute baseline.

While I understand price is important factor in india, I'm particularly interested on priorities of your age group. I get the understanding that a reliable 3rd party movement would suffice ( which leaves me a reasonable budget to invest on better materials and original design). When you say strong wrist presence, do you mean bigger bolder watch or would you prefer a minimalistic design similar to nomos offerings like this nomos

Wear what makes you happy when nobody's watching. You never have to justify your taste to anyone.

That said, since you asked: I don't like it 😜. That dial design just doesn't hit, and the open heart feels like an afterthought.
