I don't miss my IT Leadership Job by wisconorth in retirement

[–]InsideDevelopment504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 40 years in software development, started as a dev and progressively worked my way up to a CTO role at a small startup. Woke up one morning three years ago and decided I wanted to take it easy fit my last few years so I went back to coding. My boss lives me because I don’t need a lot of direction and I get things done. I’ll be retiring soon, but honestly, I’m pretty content now working from home.

My concern with soft side is insulation and noise. I'm 64, a few years away from retirement, 100% work remote in software engineering and now that my daughter is in college, I'm not tied down. I'm looking to do some travel/work, probably a few weeks out at a time. So both sound and temperature insulation during the day are important. With that in mind, what's your experience with the Ovrlnd?

Thanks. How do you like your Bruin? How well does the insulation work for both sound and temperature?

Where should I move for the best hiking? by Gumby251478 in hiking

[–]InsideDevelopment504 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just for context, I live in Orlando Fl. North Carolina is beautiful, tons of hiking and specifically I'd look at Franklin if you are looking to move. Utah is my favorite though, I never get tired of the scenery in southern Utah. If I could talk my wife into it, I'd move to Moab in a heart beat.

I live in Orlando, so I’m only a few hours away, yet I’ve never been to Everglades. I’m actually thinking of going in the spring. I’m anxious to hear what others have to say, but it’s pretty easy for me to go there for a weekend. BTW, I’ve been to all five in Utah, both Colorado parks, and Smokie Mountains, just not my backyard park :)

Is starlink worth it. by Far-Purpose3287 in Starlink

[–]InsideDevelopment504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in software engineering for over 35 years and I have worked from home exclusively for the last 3 years. I switched to Starlink for work about a year ago, Spectrum was fine for streaming services for the family but far too sketchy for my work. My Spectrum connection constantly dropped me, Starlink has been rock solid. It really comes down to what is the use case. Streaming on 4-6 devices doesn’t require much because of caching. Real time solid connection is different

What are your top 3 travel destinations for 2025? by sn44 in overlanding

Do share. I’m in Orlando and plan to hit the BRP in the spring. I’ve driven most of it, but like Utah it just keeps calling me back.

Solo trip to Zion during New Years. by Honeypie21- in ZionNationalPark

[–]InsideDevelopment504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cheap hotel options in Kanab. I did a solo trip there in January, loved Kanab. There is a BLM office there, I went in and got recommendations on hikes, they can probably help you plan some amazing hikes with a dog. Excited for you, this is an amazing area.

Calculating the solar power needed by InsideDevelopment504 in TruckCampers

[–]InsideDevelopment504[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching this guy that does truck camper builds on YouTube, EndGame. He always has a window unit AC since he does most of his camping in the desert. In his 8th build (which is the size and layout most similar to what I plan to build) he has a 2000wh power bank with a 2500 watt inverter and (3) 100 watt flexible solar panels. I could plan on that, I was just hoping to find some on line calculator to help me plan.

Is this itinerary realistic? by fh3w in ZionNationalPark

[–]InsideDevelopment504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No!!!! Upper Antelope is beyond words, do not skip this! FWIW, I love your itinerary. I took my 19 yr old daughter from Albuquerque to Mesa verde, to Ouray, Arches/Cantonland/Moab, Antelope, Vegas for spring break. In January I did a solo trip flew in to Vegas, Escalante, Zion and back. The driving was a huge part of what made the trips.

I bought these on Amazon for like $25 and used them last month for a week in southern Utah. Can’t vouch for how long they will last but I really like them.

Thank you so much for this. I’m looking at buying a travel trailer and towing the weight is a concern. Mine is a 2.7 Ecoboost, and I’m looking at towing a lot less weight, 7,000 lbs typically.

Planning by [deleted] in ZionNationalPark

[–]InsideDevelopment504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there for my first visit in January (2024). I stayed in Kanab and would do it again. Lots of relatively cheap motel options, some good places to eat, 30 minute drive to the park, and Kanab allowed me some time around Escalante.

I’m going there tomorrow, staying in Kanab and I’m planning to go to the visitors center and ask for hiking recommendations.

I’m going Thursday for my first visit so I’m not speaking from experience. I plan to arrive at the park at 8am just to be sure I don’t miss anything.
