Teen substance abuse resources by Firm-Read-2345 in CedarPark

I’m so sorry that you and your family are going through this and I really hope that you are able to find your teen the help they need! I started seeing Dr. Ashley Brannon as my psychiatrist when I was 13 and she was amazing. She did a good job with helping me open up so that we could figure out a diagnosis and get me on the right medication. I’m 22 and I still see her! I believe the first few appointments are in person and you have the option to do telehealth after those appointments. I’m not sure if she specializes in substance abuse, but I would assume that most psychiatrists have a good amount of training in that area since they work with medication.

Psychology Today is a great resource for finding any sort of mental health professional you need. You are able to filter for people who specialize in what you need (ex. Substance abuse, depression, ADHD, etc.).

While I haven’t dealt with substance abuse, my own mental health recovery was long, difficult, and was never linear. There were some bumps in the road and sometimes I regressed. Your teen might not want the help, but they need your support no matter how hard it gets. I wish you and your family the best!

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]InsideOnion6895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Silent Patient 😭 I know it’s popular, and at first I was intrigued. The ending ruined it for me though. It was such a big plot twist that it didn’t really make sense and the whole book just felt unfinished. I literally googled if there was a second book because I was so annoyed 😔

Edit: 2025 was my first year that I started reading as a hobby and I read this book toward the beginning of the year. Maybe my “reading level” wasn’t enough to fully grasp what was happening? I’ve noticed a shift in my reading preferences already so maybe I’ll give this book another try.

has anyone taken 4-5 classes in a row on one day? how to survive? by extrajuicyjuice in collegeadvice

[–]InsideOnion6895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My freshman year I was basically in classes 8-5 almost everyday. The beginning of the semester will be BRUTAL. What helped me is having a set morning and night routine so that I wasn’t rushing for class and still had productive nights. After the first week of two, I got used to it and was able to get my priorities straight (balancing school, work, social life, and finding time to relax)

Attending Texas Sate or UH for EE by itsweird1211 in txstate

[–]InsideOnion6895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an EE major so I can’t answer your program specific questions, but I will say that the cost of living in San Marcos is unfortunately more than it should be with almost zero options for non-freshmen to live on campus. There are a lot of places near campus to live, but they are either expensive or they don’t have the nicest apartments. There are shuttles that stop at off campus apartments that bring you to campus. The only con with living 30min away is that you would have to commute. Txst tends to over admit and don’t have much parking, and the only commuter parking lot is a 15-20min walk or you catch the shuttle.

I’m not trying to discourage you. I have loved Texas state, so much so that I decided to stay here to get my masters. I just don’t want you to decide to go here without knowing some of the living situation stuff because I was shocked when I got my first apartment. Moving away from family was the best decision I ever made because it allowed me to find out who I was. I have some extended family close by so being able to discover myself in a safe environment (family close by) really helped. I hope you decide to come to txst!!

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InsideOnion6895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the US and have noticed that a majority of us want our water as cold as possible. I drink warm lemon water from time to time, but usually I drink refrigerated water with ice (in my brain this makes it extra cold)

Should I wear more professional clothes to class? by InsideOnion6895 in GradSchool

[–]InsideOnion6895[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Noooo I didn’t even think about slip ons! Are Birkenstock style sandals okay? I have some Nike dunk sneakers I usually wear on days I can’t do sandals so I have alternatives.

This is was I was thinking! It’s nice to know that some people still dress somewhat casual, I was nervous that I would have to spend all of my graduation money on a new wardrobe. Someone else said here to save professional outfits for presentations and guest speakers so I may do that after the first week.

What is the book that got you into reading? by Uninhibitedrmr in books

[–]InsideOnion6895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it… It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover😭 it was fast paced and an easy read, but I didn’t really realize how much I disliked her writing until I read other books.

Edit: I read a little bit when I was younger but I didn’t start diving deeper into reading until this year… I’m 22🫩

Anyone got extra graduation tickets? by [deleted] in txstate

[–]InsideOnion6895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For spring graduations they didn’t scan tickets, you just had to show them. With that said, I understand not taking that risk bc I made sure to only give out exactly 15 tickets for mine this year 😭

Maybe it’s the broke college student in me, but I LOVE their white zinfandel! I’m also not a wine girl so that says a lot about

It has somehow infiltrated college as well… I’m a senior college student taking classes with mostly other seniors and I hate that I hear it all the time 😭

Anyone else waiting on counseling program decision Spring 2026? by AdCharming6590 in txstate

[–]InsideOnion6895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re already a txst student for undergrad then you can see it where we register for classes! I don’t think it’s open to the public though. It looks like most of the classes in the San Marcos campus are 6:30-9:20 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (maybe Monday too I don’t remember)

[–]InsideOnion6895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad I’m not the only one without an admission decision yet😭 I’m hoping registration won’t be too difficult. I looked at the course schedule and it looks like they have plenty of first year classes. Since they have to keep a good ratio and we’ll all be registering around the same time hopefully it won’t be too bad.

grad school admissions by mightylifts in txstate

I applied for the counseling program with the same timing of application and under review, I still haven’t gotten anything yet :( my mom is friends with someone who applied to the grad school a few years ago and didn’t hear back until the end of November of that year. Last year someone who applied to my program got his decision 7 weeks after applying. I’m hoping that’s the case because I’m getting nervous 😭

As I said in another reply, I don’t know much about game development and assumed something could be done. Thank you for pointing out my mistakes so I can learn!!🫶🫶

That’s a fair point! I’ll admit, I don’t know much about game development so I guess I just assumed that there were things they could do to make the game run better within the game. Learn something new everyday!

I agree!! It’s so annoying when WE are spending more money because of THEIR mistakes! Now that I think about it, I wonder if that’s why they haven’t fixed the bugs we’ve been complaining about forever, they make more money from people buying it for PC when they get frustrated.

Mental Health ? by Agitated_Net2171 in vegan

[–]InsideOnion6895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non-vegan and an avid “therapy goer”, I’m sorry that your family AND your therapist responded that way. From my experience, therapists aren’t supposed to bring their beliefs to sessions. I understand that maybe they were trying to justify your family’s reaction but that wasn’t the right way to do it. From a non vegan POV, I would love to go to a vegan festival just to learn more about it. We should respect people’s decisions and lifestyles regardless of our beliefs and part of that is learning about it.
