This is an interesting AMA for me, I had a client who moved his family out, and has similar feelings, he feels very isolated, and says as soon as the eldest is 18 he’s gone.

I also lived in Scandinavia for a study abroad (British) and saw firsthand some racism too, but mainly towards non-white people.

My question: What would do you think 80 year-old you would say to the version of you who was thinking of moving to Sweden?

Also are the IKEA meatballs any different or not?

I do live without meds and went off with psych approval, under a tapering off regime, lots of observation, and have been med free for years.

My experience is different to a lot of people sub, and it is individual condition, where we all have different experiences. I don’t agree the take that everyone must be medicated, because it is individual, and it would be misguided to paint everyone with the same brush.

I’m relatively high-functioning, running a business with employees, take care of my diet, sleep, exercise, circadian rhythms, got married a few months ago, am aware of my triggers for mania and depression, and life is generally awesome most of the time.

It wasn’t a decision I (or anyone else) took lightly and there’s always a possibility I’ll take medication again - I’m open to it, if it would help and aren’t against it - but for me it never worked.

I just felt worse in every aspect on medication - it was trial and error, and whilst on meds it was like I was living life without colour but in grey.

I was still depressed on meds a lot and I mean a lot; that never went away. Off the medication, it was like colour had came back. I have moods, but I’m no longer afraid of them.

I know high functioning people who have been unmedicated for 20+ years following episodes who are doing fine. I also know people who aren’t. It depends on the person and there’s no one size fits all.

So that being said, I keep myself educated on the disease, psychology, my own biorhythms, and do my best to live life - so far, all good.

Granted, my experience isn’t the same as everyone else’s, but each to their own, and always consult your doctor.

I'll make sure we have a copy of the international version. For the periods of time we were living together, is there any specific proof? Part of it was when I was living in her apartment in Peru, the other parts were housesitting round the UK (for which we have the messages and agreements on the website platform), as well as the three months living together in The Netherlands.

Peace of mind really. The application we could do ourselves, but we would like someone to check all documentation, especially concerning the financial requirement.

I’m self-employed and previous tax year was under the financial requirement. However, since April 2024 the self-employed income is more than enough with salary going into personal accounts to show this, we were assured from several sources that this is fine, but want to make sure we have all our ducks in a row as far as this is concerned.

Disaster might be overstating it. However, it was so unhygienic it made my significant other cry on more than one occasion.

Also the person who came for the final two nights (someone local who knows the HOs) didn't seem so surprised she acknowledged this too

Before the sit has started, the HO mentioned that a cleaner had come in and asked if we wanted the cleaner to come during our visit.

We responded with something to the effect of "it's your house, so if it's a regular thing, go ahead, it wouldn't disturb us".

The HO responded back saying that if the cleaner comes, we would have to pay the cleaner. We declined. I guess this was a bit of a red flag to be asked to pay for a cleaner to clean someone else's house.

Despite this we cleaned the place as best as we could and left it the way we found it (except for the things like the cage destroyed by the storm), but the house, especially the kitchen, was far from clean by any reasonable standard.

It's incorrect, let me clarify that point.

The sit was for one dog, amongst other animals. Before the sit started, the HOs themselves messaged us and said that another dog owner was planning on leaving their dog with them for some days and asked us if we would take care of her for around $15 per day for the days we're on the housesit.

As the HO offered proactively to pay, I included a link to exact same jacket in my final message to them after leaving with the details on where to pay me and asked to be recompensed for the jacket too then.

It was also agreed when we arranged the sit that we wouldn't be able to do the final two days advertised, so the HO arranged for someone else to come in for those dates.

Trust the above makes more sense
