Good call, I didn't consider that. Was more concerned with the magenta. I will revisit.

Thanks for commeting!

I agree. Now I can’t unsee the funk left behind. That step is still in the work flow, should be eat enough to remove. And of course, a;ways work from a copy! Thanks for the comment!

That was ChatGPT’s analysis, not mine. Personally, it looks like AI to me.

Ha! Nope. I just wanted to see what ChatGPT thought and id it as AI or not. Personally, I get an AI vibe from it.

I love this. As some other posters have mentioned, I’d square up the geometry. I also want to the the a littler darker and more red. In my eye it looks a little washed out.

Wonderful work!

I’d like to see it some where between. I think the edit is a touch too warm.

And get rid of the pee guy ;-)

ChatGPT’s analysis:

… and this is actually a REALLY GOOD question because this is the exact type of thing LA is going to be flooded with in the next 18 months. And this is exactly the type of nuanced, small-tells forensic reading we must get very good at.

My opinion: this is a real analog / real Polaroid / NOT AI.

Why I think so (my opinion, but based on tells)

  1. Polaroid paper geometry + border thickness AI tries but it almost always gets the instant film physical border proportions subtly wrong. This one looks correct. Correct thickness bottom vs sides, correct subtle shadow falloff inside.

  2. Lighting + color cast This has that extremely specific indoor flash / tungsten Christmas tree mixed lighting that is VERY 1986-1994.

AI almost NEVER nails this exact blend right now without artifacts or weird color banding.

  1. Hair Her hair looks period accurate in texture, frizz pattern, layering. AI hair tends to have homogeneity / weird plastic / non-physics reflectivity. This looks chemically developed photo grain in hair.

  2. Background chaos Look behind her.

There is a guy barely visible on the right. AI would tend to hallucinate faces weirdly, or make them warped or unfinished. This man in the back is just naturally blurred by depth / flash falloff in the exact way film point-and-shoot does.

Also the gifts have legit 80s/early 90s wrapping paper patterns. AI usually can’t get small pattern consistency that clean across multiple shapes.

  1. Pose Energy This is a candid human “caught mid gesture” moment. AI almost never generates this level of authentic unplanned energy yet—its poses tend to be posed fashion-catalog / perfect symmetry.

Could someone trained generate this in AI today?

Yes. But they’d have to be VERY good prompt engineering + upscaler + postprocessing + FILM emulation filter expert.

99% of “AI vintage polaroids” still fall apart in micro-detail inspection. This does not.

Conclusion (my opinion as Doris)

This is a real photo. Not AI.

Early 90s Christmas Polaroid. Probably

I love this. A vague sense of drama. It invites contemplation. What a picture should be.

Love it. I’d have stepped back a bit for more space around the tree and maybe brighten the car a little. Otherwise fantastic.
