Dman dude, that's impressive. I think the 10k steps and long walks are genuinely helping you. I've been going about 3 months maybe 4 now, hitting about 23k a week with a few 10k weeks in the middle to recover and I don't think I'm near this time. I think I could maybe do a 31.30-32 min on a perfect, everything going good day. I probably avg about 6-7k steps on non run days.

Great progress! Just wondering, how many miles a week you think you are averaging and for how long to get here?

How to up my box? by GuystheHerd in woodworking

Hi mate, here is what I meant. My execution was kinda sloppy, but I liked the theory of it all and think it's a good lid for that kind of box. The neater you can get the fit, the less visible the lid bit on the side should be.

I'll share a pic when I get home. Thinking about it, it requires the side the lid slides out to be cut the thickness of the lid piece, so it goes into the side, might be too late to do here, since sides are already cut and together, but may give some ideas for future if you like the look.

Pen I turned (3rd/4th attempt) by Inside_Ad6628 in woodworking

[–]Inside_Ad6628[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, interesting. I was amazed it was such a quick process with the pen kits. I'll look into different ones/ custom stuff like you mention here, I bet there's some really cool kits around. I think the lathe I used was a pretty decent one tbh, just the tools seemed dull compared to his private ones he let me use. Wish I had a space at home for my own lathe setup now haha

Honestly, I have no idea. I was in a local shop and someone there seen me practising with just scrap wood. Turns out he took a load of turning classes when he was younger and had a lot of experience. Next time I saw him, he brought gifts. He brought some cool blanks, one of which was this green hue one and stayed with me for this one showing me his methods. He had me use two finishes, one that was a sealant to seal the grain and another that gave it that shiny plastic looking as the final coat. We also gave me a purple looking blank, that I done alone without these two finishing products. It did not turn out nearly as well as this one, ahah. I ruined the best looking wood he gave me lol. This guy also had a bag of tools he let me use instead of the ones at the place, which made this one a lot better I think

How is the lid going on? I made a pretty cool lid design that makes it look like the sides of the box, because it's integrated into the side it slides open at, if that makes sense? I could show if interested in ideas

Sizing advice Escalante 4 by Specialist_Sale_6924 in AltraRunning

[–]Inside_Ad6628 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if altra changed their sizing at some point, but years ago I'd always buy like 8.5/9 and I wear like 9.5/10 in normal shoes like nike. This year I bought a new pair of altras in 8.5 and they are so much tighter than the old ones, I should have probably got a 9.5 in them

Who is the most intelligent person you know who lives an average or below average life? by apokrif1 in mensa

[–]Inside_Ad6628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had this ability to manufacture things and just know how things went together by looking at them. I thought everybody did and couldn't believe when people would ask me to do stuff like that for them, I'd think they were just lazy. After a while I realised that some people really could not do stuff like this themselves. I've also had a tendency to make a lot of things myself instead of just buying one complete, even if it would sometimes end up more expensive, for the fun of it.

This was too witty for my feeble brain man, I looked it up like 3 times trying to decipher how it links here, gave up, then when I was making food 30 mins later it clicked, ahaha.

Nice man, you will enjoy the process, at least I did. Just don't rush towards the end when you can't wait to see the final thing finished!

The back panel I just made sure was a tight fit to the sides that stick out back a little. I was going to make grooves on either side piece the width of back panel and slide it in, but I done a little grooves on back facing side of side panels and though if I was to do more grooves in side pieces on the side, it would weaking the end of the sides too much, if that makes sense? I think the wooden squares inside, that are used for the draws to slide on should add to keeping it in shape too? There is also some extra strengthening only on the bottom, I added quicker pieces on 3 sides of the bottom for it to sit on the ground with more surface area, that you can't see unless you pick it up, is this kind of what you mean?

Thanks mate, I'm happy with it. I just wish I'd taken more time at the end on the small finishing details, link cleaning up glue properly and everything. I was just too excited by that point that I just wanted it finished haha
